Enchanting is getting better, with new ways to attain experience, but now seems too easy!
I propose that the enchanting max be raised up to 40, as it is far too easy to attain at 30. And there needs to be a way to control enchantments. Perhaps, enchanting stones could be used to control the enchantment. Without an enchanting stone, or some kind of device, enchanting remains random. But with the proper stone, one can control the enchant. (eg. The Stone Of Sharpness yields a Sharpness enchant) And you should be able to control the amount of xp you must spend, not just random numbers. Say, with no bookcases you can scroll up to 4 exp, with a little, up to 10, with a little more, up to 20, and so on. There would be a level scroller part of the UI. Having enchanting devices is a great new way to add some cool loot to the new dungeons and have some high level trading items.

That would be stupid and a step backward. It would be far better to just make the xp needed to go up a level steeper. Having only 30 levels does more than just reduce the xp needed to get higher enchantments, it also condenses the enchantment probabilities so that each level is noticeably more powerful than the previous one.
I don't really care what's done. But I'm Lv51 and haven't even smelted any iron yet.. I feel like I gotta play it safe until I get an enchantment table and bookshelves or else I'm gonna lose valuable stuff.
I'm getting to much experience to quickly. Which I guess in a later game scenario wouldn't be bad. But for **** sake I just started the world. I should be about Lv15 for the work I've actually put in o:
Jeb sohuld have kept the enchantment cap at 50 levels. All he needed to do was add minor XP bonuses to other activities, such as mining. Personally, I really like that you can get XP with grinding the murder of mobs. It took far too long before to get high levels of XP before. Additionally, higher levels spent should ensure a better chance at securing better enchantments. I feel this is the main design changes enchanting needs.
I don't know about the stones or how easy it is to level up to 30 with the current system, but 50 was way too much. It took a very long time to reach that level, and you were not always guarenteed a good enchantment.
I'm not sure if 30 is a great cap either, but 50 was far too much.
I love most of the enchantment changes I actually get a little excited when I find coal now lol. I like that the highest enchantment has been reduced to 30, but I think it has become much too easy to get there as I got level 65 with one dig to bedrock. If they just put the levels back where it takes more experience to gain the higher levels, I think the balance would be spot on. I'm sure the developers will toy with it some more that's why it's a snapshot!

I just did it in about five minutes, I only mined about 2 stacks, way too easy!
I just got here, someone please explain to me all the stuff that has been changed with enchanting and XP?
-Max enchanting cap is 30
-But getting the high enchants (such as fortune III) require a bit more tries.
-It take 17 xp to get one level, no matter what level you are: going to level 99 to 100 is as easy to gain the first level.

Everything seems alright except that last bit. Seems a bit unbalanced.

Smelt your iron.
You get xp when you take the stack out of the furnace.
I dont really care about the change one way or the other. i use an XP farm so the change means nothing but saved time for me.
One thing though, is with the change to 30 max level, you need 15 bookcases (i think) which leads to an odd shaped arrangement of bookcases to reach the max. Which seriously bugs me.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Or even better, tie the speed at which you accumulate XP directly to the difficulty level of the world.
Not a bad idea at all OneEyedMule. Most people play on a difficulty that is equivalent to their desire for either more or less challenge.
