Can you tell me how does the added archeology stuff fit with the game?
How doesn't it? Let's face it, Minecraft has always been a grab-bag of a game - that's part of its charm.
I remember when the Nether was first added back in Alpha. There was nothing in the game at that point that would have suggested that a Hell-dimension with zombie pigmen and flying, crying mortars "fit". They seem to fit now because we're used to them, there is no other reason.
Then fishing got added. A mini-game that nobody has to interact with, that can now randomly get you some really valuable stuff for basically no good reason - it's a reward for investing time, essentially. Rather like archaeology, don't you think?
Honestly, my biggest issue with the entire update isn't the update itself, it's the speed. We went from multiple updates a year from 1-2 developers to ONE update a year with THIRTY developers. It's kind of pathetic.
This may be an unfair comparison because some of those updates may have had less content than the recent ones, or it may have been easier to implement. Also, the developers seem to be putting more thought into the recent updates (they don't want to add something bad and lose their fans). Also, the company is now juggling 4 different multi-platform games (Minecraft Bedrock, Minecraft Java, Minecraft Earth, and Minecraft Dungeons), two of which are meant to be pretty much the same in content (Minecraft Java and Minecraft Bedrock) so it will take a longer time to sync the two. Finally, it could be that they're just trying to put releases on a schedule and their speed hasn't actually changed that much.
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
I just don't see this as that big of a problem. I've never felt a need to carry one of every single block and item in the game, and I certainly can't imagine carrying or wanting to carry 35 bundles! I see them as a significant convenience in certain situations, but nothing game-breaking. Having one, or at most two, in your inventory will help soak up those odd little items one comes across in the course of doing other things.
In my own case, inventory gets frustrating when a branch-mining trip unexpectedly turns into a spelunking trip.
I mentioned that because I wanted to show how many times more variety of items you can now hold in your inventory. I don't see it as a major problem, but it's worth noting exactly how much you can do.

Lastly, there are teenage modders that put out 2x to 3x the content in a month compared to what the entire Mojang team puts out in a year. Also, they put out bug free content. These are kids who are doing this stuff after school versus adults who are doing this AS A JOB. I've heard excuses for ten years why there isn't more work being done in Minecraft and it's pathetic. Hytale has done close to 10x what is in Minecraft and they've only been working at it for 2 years.
Modders do this on a personal level, meaning that they don't have as much to worry about like marketing, audience appeal, or the accepted design process (whatever that is for Minecraft). Also, most of them work from forge, which makes development significantly easier and less time-consuming. Bug-free code doesn't exist.
While there may be separate teams for each game, if they all functioned separately then there would be no way to sync the themes or features. There is likely a lot of communication between those teams, especially the ones for Java and Bedrock edition.
I will also mention that Minecraft wasn't originally designed to be such a large scale game, so there's likely a lot of coding barriers.
Hytale is focusing their game specifically on development, so it makes sense that it's going to be easier to create, though I think you've exaggerated the numbers substantially. They also have better technology to start out with, and they're planning for scalability.

So when do you guys think we can expect snapshots for 1.17? Dare we hope for this week?
That would be incredible if it happened, but I doubt it. I'm not sure how long the snapshot stage usually is, but I wouldn't think it would take any more than 6 months (They'd probably start releasing the betas once they actually get the features in-tact, not as soon as they develop one thing).
Once the snapshots do come out, I'm going to have to create about 20 different worlds (one for each snapshot), as the entire update is basically 100% world generation. I know that I could just explore a different chunk, but I largely prefer just to create a new world rather than deal with the generation inconsistencies that result from doing that.

Interesting how your issue isn't the update itself. So does that mean your fine with archeology, the telescope etc.?
All popular Minecraft Youtubers that talk about the 1.17 update feels like they are doing it because of a sponsorship. It feels like a biased video about the update because of a sponsorship contract is preventing them from saying critical/negative things.
I hate the spikes, the bundles, the stupid telescope, the archaeology stuff, and new pots. They feel like things you would easily find in modded Minecraft from 1.8.
Spikes: I would expect 3D spikes or something, but no, instead we have 2D spikes just like how plants are presented. I hate how thick they are and feel like a total eye-sore.
Bundles: They have the exact same functionality as shulker except worse. The main problem I have with this is the UI of it, instead of seeing the exact number or what items that are inside it, you just get a blob of items and manually have to count them.
Telescope: We never needed and we still never needed it. I feel like it is equivalent to clocks, they are worthless other than to have them on a item frame for decoration.
Archaeology stuff: Why would we need this in a update? This is straight up feels like it is from a archaeology/Jurassic Park mod!! There is no purpose of this stupid new feature other than getting expensive items from dirt/gravel OR being able to create a pot.
Pots: This feels like a custom block that a map developer would make for their map. It's cool I guess? But I find it still very dumb.
Also is it me or does it seem there will be a BIG performance problem?? The brushes for example, it feels like it turns dirt/gravel/etc into snow, where there are multiple layers of something. I feel like if there is too many of these different layer blocks it will have a performance problem.

I think everyone that is literally asking for stuff to be LOWER resolution is insane. The stalactites and stalagmites look good, and I sincerely hope the development team don't listen to the insane people that think they're "too high-res" for the game.
Bundles are fantastic, and will make working on a lot of things like farms easier. People also apparently aren't thinking about things that stack in low numbers (or don't stack at all, such as enchanted books and tools). I'm going to be carrying at least 5 of these at all times when the update rolls out.
Archeology is quite strange and I think the development time spent on it could have been put to substantially better use. This is the cave and mountain update, and instead of giving us new tools for mining faster/more efficiently, they give us a brush to mine blocks more SLOWLY, for USELESS decals for ugly giant pots? Are we going to be getting cobras revealed later or something so the pots can be used as homes for them? Are the pots going to be useful for ANYTHING? This is going to be just like the update aquatic with boats. If we don't get new mining tools now, in the Cave Update, we're never going to get them and that's horrible.
I agree with whoever mentioned how much more GOOD content the average modder can put out than an entire development team in a multi-billion dollar studio. These updates with this scale should be coming out multiple times a year, not once.
I really hope amethyst crystals aren't ONLY used for the telescope. I'm holding out hope that you'll be able to make some new tools with them that can mine faster than anything else or have some other kinds of special properties. Having a gem resource that can only be harvested from uncollectable geodes underground would be a ridiculous waste if the crystals don't have some powerful purpose, and telescopes ain't it, chief.
The actual cave and mountain generation looks significantly better, but the bar hasn't exactly been set very high on that.
I like the concept of the mountain goats, but at the same time I have to wonder if they're going to make mountain traversal and/or basebuilding too much of a hassle to bother with.
Axolotls being giant waterdogs is hilarious and I want them yesterday.
The new redstone plants are so awesome that I think even I will be able to build some cool (and most importantly easy) redstone devices that serve a purpose now. Redstone is the one area of the game I'm not at all fluent in because it's generally so complex and time-consuming, not to mention bulky and ugly, for so little reward. These new wireless redstone plants look to change that.
I think everyone that is literally asking for stuff to be LOWER resolution is insane. The stalactites and stalagmites look good, and I sincerely hope the development team don't listen to the insane people that think they're "too high-res" for the game.
How is it so insane? Higher resolution graphics don't necessarily mean better graphics, and Minecraft is a game that has made these simple graphics an entire theme. If we just start having incredibly detailed stuff, they will look out of place. More detailed =/= Better.

People also apparently aren't thinking about things that stack in low numbers (or don't stack at all, such as enchanted books and tools). I'm going to be carrying at least 5 of these at all times when the update rolls out.
I'm still not sure if these will simply be incompatible with the bundle or if they'll be stackable up to 64, essentially negating the balance feature that they weren't stackable. I hope it's the first option, but we've been focusing the discussion on what we know.
Archeology is quite strange and I think the development time spent on it could have been put to substantially better use. I agree that the pots require more use, but the purpose of the update isn't necessarily for faster mining. They wanted to incentivize exploration and make caves more interesting. If anything, they want you to slow down and "smell the flowers" or appreciate the world generations and cave shapes. Ceramic pieces help out with the lore, but I still think they should have a higher use case. Archaeology can also give you some expensive items. We don't necessarily need new mining tools, considering that we have at least a decent variety now.
I agree with whoever mentioned how much more GOOD content the average modder can put out than an entire development team in a multi-billion dollar studio. These updates with this scale should be coming out multiple times a year, not once.
See what I typed 3 posts ago. Modders are working in a less stressful and overall more convenient environment, and a lot of the comparisons are unfair.

I'm holding out hope that you'll be able to make some new tools with them that can mine faster than anything else or have some other kinds of special properties. I also very much agree that copper and amethyst crystals need more uses. I seem to recall from the video that it was implied there were indeed more. I certainly hope so.
Amethyst tools (probably not armor) make a good deal of sense. Geodes are rare, and presumably only grow more crystals when the chunk is loaded. So unless you move your base over to it, they're going to be a scarce resource. (How weird is it that diamonds are more common than amethysts, btw? :))
Another thought is that using amethyst in place of glass for beacons and end crystals would give you improved versions, or perhaps just more of them.
Maybe amethyst could make hardened, explosion-resistant glass? Maybe one crystal + 8 glass makes 9 hardened glass? But it seems too rare for such a use.
Why can't telescopes be made with glass? They are in real life. But if the rule is that "lenses are made out of crystal", then that gives some further ideas of what they could be used for.
As for copper, it seems logical for it to interface with redstone in some way. Maybe copper wires could act like the "bluestone" people keep asking for - it wouldn't connect with redstone.
Wait so how exactly do bundles open? You click on it and it spills items all over your inventory? On the ground? It opens another, nested, GUI?
I didn't watch the videos at all and don't really have the patience to...
In the videos, it just opens all the items into your inventory, but I'm hoping you'll be able to extract certain items or the whole concept would be useless since you would need enough inventory space in order to open the bundle.

Even that way, it's still not useless. You just keep the stuff in the bundle until you get home and unload stuff into your chests. Or even just put the bundle itself in a chest, if you like.
What I'm wondering is how expensive the crafting recipe is going to be. Does it take leather? Wool? Something else? Neither of those are hard to get once you have some farms going (though bookcases provide a steep demand for leather in the beginning), but in the first few days they can be dear.
EDIT: I have a feeling that bundles are going to revolutionize my storage system. There's some things one only needs a few of on hand - flowers, for example. If they can all go in a bundle, that'll save quite a few slots. Though having to take an extra step to get things out - especially if it's all or nothing - might be annoying enough to avoid them. Not sure yet.

I suppose that's true, but it's still not nearly as useful as it would be if you could extract individual items from your bundle. I'd likely still end up using them, just not nearly as often as I would otherwise.
The crafting recipe is likely to include string, though I don't exactly know what else would be involved (probably leather also). Leather is pretty lacking in use right now (the armor is rarely ever used), so I guess giving it another exclusive purpose would be an excellent thing.

I honestly have no problem with having archeology in the Minecraft. The only problem I have with it is the texture of the brush but it's probably not final yet so yeah. Actually, I don't really have a real or actual complaint so far, aside from one of the flowers in the lush cave possessing a higher resolution than the rest of the block which is weird. Everything else in my opinion is a chef's kiss.
Also, can people stop throwing the term "modded" around? Every update is going to feel "modded" no matter what features that the devs add, do people even want more and new features to the game? Anyway, that's a bit of a mini-rant.

How is it so insane? Higher resolution graphics don't necessarily mean better graphics, and Minecraft is a game that has made these simple graphics an entire theme. If we just start having incredibly detailed stuff, they will look out of place. More detailed =/= Better.
I'm still not sure if these will simply be incompatible with the bundle or if they'll be stackable up to 64, essentially negating the balance feature that they weren't stackable. I hope it's the first option, but we've been focusing the discussion on what we know.
See what I typed 3 posts ago. Modders are working in a less stressful and overall more convenient environment, and a lot of the comparisons are unfair.
I completely agree with this part.
Remember those versions that minecraft pranked us with? Specifically:
Those are still downloadable! Watch this video for 2.0:

To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
