Hello everyone. I'm playing on a world that I created before the village update. I found two villages, but they are completely screwed up. Obviously, there are no beds and few houses. The villagers are constantly out of the village, doing nothing.
So I'm wondering if I can expect something from this world regarding villages. I tried to add beds and workstations in some houses but it seems useless. Is there a way to use the new mechanics with a village from older versions? I was really excited about them so I'd like to know if I should just let go.
I was going to suggest that you find a new village that hadn‘t been discovered and generated under the older version of Minecraft. After re-reading your post it is unclear whether the two villages you describe are such new villages. If you had them in the older version you might have to breed the villagers to get offspring that exhibit the 1.14 behavior. If the villages are real new ones (not generated until after the 1.14 update), try putting a workstation right next to a jobless villager. In my experience villagers are often unable to find their way to a workstation and bed inside a house. Some of my villagers wander around all night even though there are empty beds available.
Thank you very much for your answer. To make things clear, I visited one village that I had already found before the update, and another one that I had not. Although, my world is composed of great oceans and small lands, so it is possible that I came next to the village without finding it, and thus having it to generate.
I will try putting the workstations next to villagers. I would try to breed them, though I don't know.how to do it at all. What should I do with them to get them to breed ?
Thanks again for answering.

Okay, I just checked now to breed villagers. I should have checked before, sorry. So right now I will try to get a farmer and plant carrot (I scavenged all their crops long ago) so they can eat. I didn't really get if the beds are useless in some way, only the doors seem to count, am I right?

Just make sure they have more beds than villagers and food.
And fence in and light everything up to protect them from zombies of course.
As suggested, make sure they can find the beds.
They ought to be able to pathfind through doors but maybe they aren't seeing the beds if they are higher up than the villagers?
For food you can just toss them a few stacks of potatoes, carrots, beetroots or bread.
Or for a permanent solution make sure there are farmers and place composters in the middle of the fields.
Placing a block above them will keep the villagers from climbing on top of them and breaking the crops when they step back down.
Just testing.
Okay, I followed your advice and managed to get the villagers to work and sleep as they should. Thank you guys!
The distance between the border of the old village and the new should be more than 40 blocks, otherwise the resident will return to the old village.
Actually I didn't build a new one but rather modified the village with beds and workstations.
