Message to Mojang! you all are adding too much to Minecraft! 1.13 has too many new textures! changing the crafting tables? really? I also don't like the combat update. I'm sorry, I still love Minecraft, but I'm going to stick with 1.8. those were the good old days.
Mojang is just doing what it has always done, evolving the game. That is never going to stop. Embrace the change. You will feel better.

I don't know why this thread keeps getting revived, but that's besides the point. The comment you replied to was already low-hanging fruit, and going along with change you can't agree with will not make anyone feel better.

The thread keeps getting revived because people need an outlet to complain and the last thread complaining about a specific version was so old that I believe the mods locked it. If this thread died, or was locked, a new one would spring up.
I'd prefer making more logical and less emotional assessments to change, but that's just me.
I would prefer mindless spamming to this ridiculous rhythm game. If you're going to improve combat, you have to go all the way and rework the whole system in an intelligent and skill-based way, not just make it a bit slower then decide it's a job well done.
This is in response to everyone here who has been talking about whether the combat was more skill-centered before or after the combat update. I've been playing on a 1.7 server for a couple hundred hours now and one thing has been overwhelmingly clear to me: I am having more difficulty in combat than I did in 1.9 and later. It's not because I have less skill, but rather because my skills don't apply. Let me be clear: I am having very little difficulty, I'm quite good in combat. But I'm not as good as I am in 1.9+, and it is entirely due to the low skill ceiling.
So hold whatever opinions you want about which one feels more fun, but in the end you have to admit the fact that the higher skill ceiling lies with the combat update. I knew this right away, but it became much clearer to me when, after getting used to the new combat system, I went back to the old one for a while.

I want ocean content(thanks MΓΆjang!), nether biomes(again thanks!!), and savanna passive mobs (meerkats incoming!?).
Minecraft was good before 1.9, i remember playing 1.6 and 1.8 as a kid, those days were awesome. The relaxing music, the sound effects, the semi-good textures and the singleplayer world was so much fun. I Always tier up when i remember the good old minecraft music. After the combat update, i stopped playing as often as i used to. THe only good part about the updates are the new command blocks, easier to set up and more possibilities. I Would remove. It's just annoying taking you 1.5 seconds to hit, if you want to deal damage, and waste 30 levels of enchanting for the "3rd" grade enchantment. Whoever thought of those definently doesnt know anything about MC. Why do you even need the bookshelfs to get 30 levels of ehcnanting when you waste al,l of your levels? And why did they change Clay for a block uglier than diorite. I Mean, its getting too mainstream.
Are you talking about 1.8 Beta? Because the enchanting system was changed so that you'd only ever use three levels. And clay hasn't changed at all.
As for the 1.5 seconds, it's actually 0.8 with a diamond sword, if I remember correctly. It's a negligible amount of time to wait.
I honestly don't get why people get so crazed over 'Java' Minecraft getting updates. Updates and too many new things is not a problem, it's beneficial. How is this bad? Why even care about new features, and if there are new features that affects daily gameplay, why don't you accept the change and adapt? Is it really that hard and difficult? These changes that require adaptation only happend every 3 years or something! Dang. Meanwhile, poor Pocket Edition just got drilled in the head by microsoft so they can insert the moneypump and feed the pigs.
Typical human psychology/behavior:
No changes: "This is boring why don't you do something to make it better?"
Changes: "This isn't identical to what I had before so I hate it!"
Even with Minecraft, where you're not forced into changes and can just use whatever version you happen to prefer, people still complain because sticking with their favorite version knocks them into the first category and so far nobody's figured out how to make changes while simultaneously keeping everything exactly the same, in Minecraft or elsewhere.
Basically, people just like to complain (myself included of course!)

You are basically forced. Considering some of the bugs in past versions that were corrected in later ones...

And not like newer versions do not introduce new bugs? I've spent thousands of hours playing on 1.6.4 and have not encountered some pretty serious bugs which are present in newer versions, such as one that is often reported that corrupts chunks for no reason (not due to a game crash or improper shutdown):
I see quite a few people posting crash reports for newer versions as well, yet I've never had any crashes that were not due to mods or doing something silly like setting off a Superflat TNT world, or possible in current versions (e.g. stack overflow error due to water/gravel in certain situations, mainly due to 32 bit Java using a smaller stack by default, fixed with a simple JVM argument to use the 64 bit stack size).
Of course, I've fixed some bugs myself - including ones which are still not fixed as of 1.12.2; for instance, ever noticed how lighting is weird in staircases, among other areas (despite the versions listed this has been around for far longer than just 1.7.4)?
Note that they actually show what needs to be done to mostly fix this bug yet Mojang just says "not important!", as they do with numerous other bugs; for example:
(this bug only started affecting singleplayer in 1.7.4 (the first bug report) due to chunk loading being made dependent on render distance - why not do what Optifine does in 1.6.4 and limit the minimum chunk load distance to 10 but allow it to go higher as needed? Or, you know, actually fix the bug by making mob despawn distance (viewdistance - 2) * 16 blocks, with a maximum of 128 and a minimum view distance of perhaps 5 so mobs are active within a reasonable range on 2-4 chunk render distance; the current minimum used by the server is 3, which only allows entities to be ticked within a 3x3 chunk area around the chunk the player is in)
The first issue may also have to do with the fact that the client does not wait for the internal server to shut down (a longer shutdown time due to deoptimized code could be why it is far more common since 1.8) - which has an extremely simple fix (just make the client wait for the server to fully shut down before letting you do anything else), which also fixes numerous other bugs, such as worlds not deleting properly or worlds simply disappearing from the saves menu (again, without a crash or improper shutdown; if you quit the game normally while the server is still saving it is the same as forcibly closing it).
And, of course, the more features that are added the more bugs pop up.
Sure stuff in the past is good and all but tbh, people need to learn to accept change and be done with it. Minecraft is Mojang's game after all. Sure maybe we can give ideas and they might listen but saying "I dun liek this plz st0p upd8ting Min3craft lol" isn't giving good feedback :/
If people don't like the new textures then they can use a resource pack. I THINK we can't give out official textures in packs but if the textures change then the old ones aren't exactly official anymore right? If that theory is correct then someone will make a pre-1.13 texture pack. I personally like some of them but others...not so much, however I will give kind feedback and thoughts, unlike most companies, Mojang DOES listen to their players, even if its only a little.
People who want to live in pre-1.13 land or even in 1.8.9 land are free to do so, just remember that living in the past will make you miss out on the future.
You are basically forced. Considering some of the bugs in past versions that were corrected in later ones...
No you aren't. And most past versions weren't all that buggy -- at least not unplayably so (and the few that were usually had a lettered patch version released within a week or two correcting those specific bugs without any feature changes.)
But that's not even what I mean by "forced." Most games don't give you the option at all. You play the most recent update or you don't play at all (unless you're very highly technically literate and are capable of both finding and manually installing the files for older patches, as well as disabling the automatic updates so that your work isn't immediately undone as soon as you start the game up again.)
Even on Steam, where you can turn of autoupdates on a game-by-game basis you're only limited to two versions: The one you initially installed (if you disable updates) or the latest one (if they're on.) Its again rather difficult to choose a version in between those two (or older than your initial install,) and if you ever have to reinstall you lose access to the original one again.
That is, you are literally forced into the upgrades whether you like it or not, not just basically "forced" because you want some of the new features/bug fixes/etc. MC (well, Java edition at least) is about as free as you can possibly get in terms of user choice. Its not exactly possible for Mojang (or any other developer) to custom tailor a release for every individual player that adds only the features they personally want and leaves out the others. And if there's something you really, really, really want to change, you can always learn how to mod and do it yourself.
Mojang is just doing what it has always done, evolving the game. That is never going to stop. Embrace the change. You will feel better.

You know, hey added a attribute modifier to make the items move faster or make them be slower. Hey, just saying.

Clay been the same texture as always. Also, there is an attribute modifer that you can make your tools super fast instead of super slow. >_>
