The best example for this is the highly controversial 1.9-pre change that made it impossible to attack unless your attack bar was fully charged. This was reverted almost immediately after a majority of the players experimenting with this new mechanic found it to be tedious to work with, and were unhappy with how it didn't discourage spam clicking, as spamming your mouse button wouldn't result in less DPS dealt.
Well, that was the exact reason why it was controversial, though, they have to disregard the requests of a part of the community quite often to get things done at all. There will always be the quite a few people complaining about whatever they put out next. (guess I worded my reply a little bit much wrong)
I personally am neutral to the combat changes, I think it does good as it does bad.
It's not that Mojang actually likes slow and boring combat. It's a necessary downgrade to balance with other platforms.
I personally don't think it's because of other platforms. It's to make combat a bit more interesting, and tactical. There's nothing tactical about who can spam their mouse button faster. This way you have to manage the cooldown, kind of a stamina bar thing. I personally. like it.
