New 1.10 Update on Minecraft. Bones were added which could naturally spawn in Desert and Swamp biomes as fossils. Here I found a rib cage, which I also restored, could this mean Minecraft had huge animals?
If you got any other formations other than this, do feel free to post it down below!
Well, they said in the notes that they aren't really fossils, that's just what they are called for lack of a better term. So, I wouldn't expect Minecraft dinosaurs any time soon.
Let's just say they are "bone deposits". Though they have no real use, it will be cool to find them as you're mining.

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.
There are no dangerous weapons. There are only dangerous people. R.A. Heinlein
If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.
Yeah, that's true, and you can make them out of bone meal, so there's finally a use for all those extra bones you get from your skeleton grinder.
I meant in the other direction. Getting bone meal from mined bone blocks.

They're the fossils of deceased giants from the sky dimension!
Its their rib cages. IF this is the actual case, then we can assume the bones are there because some giants fell off the island and landed face first XD

Yeah, but aren't bones a pretty rare occurrence? I watched Xisuma's video
and he had to fly around quite a bit in spectator mode to find a couple of them to show. Making bone blocks from bone meal from a skeleton grinder will probably be the more common way to get them.
And yes, you can create blocks from bone meal, and bone meal from the blocks, so it's essentially a storage block for bone meal.

That still doesn't make any sense to me. Why wouldn't you call them fossils? I mean, what else could a giant underground rib cage of bone blocks be? Paper Mache?
Unless of course they're hinting that fossils will be implemented as a specific item or block in the future, but I have my doubts on that.
There is a skull that complements with this rib cage, they are the only two fossils found in the snapshot. Sadly I cannot find the skull to show you guys

The fossils aren't only generated out of bone blocks, they can also be generated out of coal ore (which I might add is a surprisingly scientifically accurate detail, especially by Minecraft standards)
I think these structures are really interesting and inspire a large amount of creativity. You could very easily make all kinds of cool bases out of these fossil structures!
Well, that is pretty cool there are so many, and at least the coal ore ones will be useful. Well, the bone blocks I suppose are useful, in a decoration sort of way, but a large vein of coal like that is a decent resource. Probably too rare though to make much difference.

Of course not. Everyone knows that Minecraft has no story.:P Those bones are what happens when skeleton spawners spawn their last skeleton.
No. Giants

Also now we can make cool skeletal builds instead of using white stained clay or quartz. I might just make a skull right now!
And you are right, took me ages to find one of these bone structures.

No i did not draw this.
Interesting update, meaning to say that there is a fossil that will appear natural in the lower strata.
