Ι will answer to your question.... It is just A BAD UPDATE!!! You say we need more strategy in this game rather than spamming the mouse button. Imagine skywars with shields and melee cooldowns and all these wierd stuff. It is impssible to play minecraft without normal swords. How will you fight the wither? It spams projectiles at you. And come on now!!! FLYING IN SURVIVAL MODE???!!! . It is the recent snapshot with the fairy wings.
Mojang, please... you cannot put Age Of Empires (strategy game) and the sv_cheats=1, noclip in minecraft
1. shields and new arrows make the wither fight comparatively easier, if you know what you're doing.
2. Cooldowns don't change things as much as you think, since the sword one is synched with invincibility frames. Now it's timing.
3. Axes are viable now.
4. no. Just no. The cape doesn't fly. It glides. And a limited version of that.
5. Because Minecraft is about choices.
People hate 1.9 because they hate change. In other words, stubborness (by definition)

No, it's not a bad update.
We say that we need more strategy because we do.
Skywars with shields and cooldowns? That sounds great to me.
There still are "normal swords".
You'll fight the wither by NOT spam-clicking.
On Elytra:
1. They are extremely rare
2. They don't actually let you fly
The only way you can get noclip is by using spectator mode, and that wasn't a 1.9 addon.

To add on, the elytra can only be obtained in the ender-dungeon-thingy, so it is end game content. Chances are you have full diamond armour and whatnot by that stage of the game, so the elytra is a nice addition to help motivate players to check put the dungeons. Its a way of balancing the fact that these ender-dungeons no longer have beacons.
How was the old one spammy? People clicked hell fast but it didnt make a difference, I say they work on fixing the way things work, I go on a server and shoot someone with a bow and it thinks I shot it to the sky.

Many people considered the old system spammy because it only involved clicking one button over and over again until the opponent died. Sure, there was some knockback/crits/sneaking/blocking involved, but in the end it was just whoever had the best gear and/or positioning on the field. And who clicked first. Now it depends on the individual's mastery of the properties of their weapons, as well as utilization of the new properties items and weapons have, as well as timing and team strategizing. Either way is fun for me. The old way is just less fun. And I like fair game and strategizing. It's the only way to prove one's skill.
Yeah, the way some things are registered need fixing. But then again, vanilla doesn't need these fixes. So it is more or less the fault of the server you are on or the plugin maker for overlooking a possible issue.
I was just saying that most of the community is kids today. But i know theirs still grown people or teenagers out there who play too. Sorry if i offended you. Didn't mean to.

The few issues I have with 1.9 is shooting potions from a bow, because infinity + instant damage potion = op af (i think that if they are going to add potion firing they should add a special bow for it), alot of servers will need to adapt to some of these changes to pvp, pve etc, and they haven't changed repairing anything without needing a fair amount of experience. But these are basically the only issues I have with 1.9. To balance pve out a bit more, they should edit some mob AIs because... imagine fighting a swarm of pigmen...
While most people highly despise 1.9, fro some unknown reason, it has a lot in store, not just for combat. Don't forget the 3 new command blocks which will basically change the way we look at Adventure Maps!

Tipped Arrows still aren't craftable, by the way.
And they already have edited some mob AI. Skeleton, specifically.
Commands or creative inventory.
That's the only way to get them, at least until they add a crafting recipe.
It's very likely the recipe would involve a potion of the same effect.
I like everything within the new update except for the new PvP system. People seem to be complaining about how spam-clicking is a joke and is not a skill. Well I don't see how tapping the mouse once every five or so seconds adds any form of skill. Another thing to take into account is this will completely diminish all the current forms of PvP. "Combos, Strafes, Block-Hitting" will no longer exist. Instead we will have people running straight at each other and clicking as slow as a sloth (lel). I don't see how Minecraft is gaining from this. All I see is this creating a greater rift between players. A lot of people still play 1.7 and will most likely remain there. Other people who worry it will ruin the communities they play need not to worry. Most owners won't switch to 1.9 if their server is mainly focused around PvP.

So how exactly does running up to someone, looking at them, and mashing left click and the space bar require any more skill than the current system?

The new system is merely a joke. It basically enables everyone to PvP decently because so many people couldn't before hand. The old system or current system has certain skills that you actually have to master in order to win in any confrontation. There are two types of clicking. You have your normal clicking which is used by the majority of the community and then there's jitter clicking. Jitter clicking is a skill that actually requires you to practice. Keeping your aim on an opponent whilst doing this is not an easy task and can only be performed with practice. You can't win alone by clicking fast though. You must combine this with other skills like a strafe. Instead of running straight at someone you can run around them and flank them. The new system makes it nearly impossible to do this.
Now all we have is clicking every ten seconds and running straight at someone the entire time. I don't see this adding much skill or excitement.
Finally full PvP. Now we can get back to buying up them MS games
