If you don't like 1.9 just play an older versions it is simple
I agree that those who dislike 1.9's battle mechanics should just play older versions. I myself have played nothing but 1.7.10 with mods for a long time now, and that's mostly because I feel that all 1.9 really did was steal ideas that were in mods that already existed. Dual wielding? Battlegear 2 already did that. Larger End? Hardcore Ender Expansion.
My problem with the timed attacks is that it didn't really add any more strategy. You can still spam attacks, it's just that you're spamming them once a second instead of five times a second. The time taken to swing doesn't change with different weapons (i.e. a diamond sword does more damage but takes longer to swing). Instead, it still boils down to who does (and can take) the most damage.
But then again, I have a bias against Microsoft (which is something that we will not discuss here), and that probably has something to do with it, too. IT could also be that none of the mods I really want have come out for 1.9 yet and it just feels... empty.

People need to stop hating 1.9. Maybe you may not like it but they obviosly stopped spam clicking because people got enraged by spam clicking. So Microsoft solved it this way. Therefore if you hit firat you have a chance of defeating that player. Also they added dualwield so you wouldn't get a mod for vanilla Minecraft

I don't think it's an issue that vanilla Minecraft is adding things that mods have already done as it just gives the vanilla game more things without having to add mods. Granted Forge helps make more mods play nicely together but it can still get......interesting with multiple mods. 1.7 is where I started mostly playing vanilla because I'd gotten tired of fighting with some of the cool looking mods that didn't always work well so I'm happy to see new content even if it seems to duplicate some mod(s)...
The timed attacks don't truly add strategy but it does level things out a bit so it's not just a matter of who clicks faster. I like the attacking on the downside of a jump to get more of a critical hit damage. I'd rather the sweep attack go back to what was in the snapshots where you had to specifically sweep instead of it being the default if multiple targets are in range.
A bias against Microsoft should be irrelevant since they currently aren't driving the development of Minecraft - they just own the company are are using Minecraft as a platform to showcase VR. There is movement to get the same features on the console and PC versions but I'm not sure that Microsoft has much to do with that but it's a good thing either way. I could see where not having a bunch of mods for 1.9 might make it seem empty but there is an awful lot you can do with just the plain game. The command blocks are a big step towards doing things that used to require mods. I've had nowhere near enough free time lately to starting getting into the structure blocks that 1.10 is getting and can't wait to actually get some true days off work.....
My G0D Guys! Anyone who spam clicks loses! That isn't how you pvp(ed) in minecraft.

1.Ok, again, "autoclickers" are irrelevant and you even say there are "lesser numbers" since 1.9... I don't care if someone's hacking on the random server you PvP on, that's the server owners problem and not a balance issue for Mojang. They can go ahead and ban that player, problem solved, you're no longer at a disadvantage. Maybe you should find a decent server without garbage players that hack?
2. Oh was that the point? Well then I guess you have no point, because GTA is NOT a sandbox game LOL. This is straight from wikipedia...You do realize the difference in genres correct? 3.There's also difference between a game that's "not particularly hard" and being able to kill the ender dragon on hardcore, naked, with beds, in less than 10mins.
4. For the record there's already a "special attack" in the game, you can critical strike an enemy when falling downwards and attacking. With well timed jumps you can land multiple crits in a row. I know you're probably looking for a click and hold attack though because jumping is too complicated a mechanic, which I'd sort of agree with but on the other hand it also allows a higher skill cap.
1. Autoclickers aren't hacking. It's a piece of software (or even hardware!) that clicks for the user in a way that can be indistinguishable from a human. Even if it's a constant rate, with ping I doubt you could get an accurate reading. Some autoclickers also have random interval changes (say 0-75ms difference from the 600ms interval, not resulting in much lower efficiency) that would make it harder or impossible to tell from a human. You also could likely get fairly good at timing by hand only to get falsely accused of using an autoclicker.
2.
Sandbox game
A game wherein the player has been freed from the traditional structure and direction typically found in video games, and is instead given the ability to choose what, when, and how they want to approach the available choices in content. The term is in reference to a child's sandbox in which no rules are present and play is derived from open-ended choice. While some sandbox games may have building and creation aspects to their gameplay, those activities are not required. Sandbox games usually take place in an open-world setting as to facilitate the freedom of choice a player is given.
Open world, Free roam, or Free play is a term for video games where a player can move freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in regards to how or when to approach objectives, as opposed to other computer games that have a more linear structure to its gameplay. Open world and free-roaming suggest the absence of artificial barriers, in contrast to the invisible walls and loading screens that are common in linear level designs. Generally, open world games still enforce many restrictions in the game environment, either because of absolute technical limitations or in-game limitations (such as locked areas) imposed by a game's linearity. Examples of high level of autonomy in computer games can be found in MMORPG or in other games adhering to the "open world concept". Their main appeal is they provide a simulated reality and allow players to develop their character and its behavior in the direction of their choosing. In these cases, there is often no concrete goal or end to the game. There are limitations to this autonomy through the rules of the simulation and its limitations. But the direction of gameplay may or may not rely ultimately upon the decision of the player, as in some cases this can be completely controllable by the player, the type depends on the requirements and availabilities of the game
Y'know, those things sound very similar.
And no, GTA isn't a 'pure' sandbox in that you can't control ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, but then again neither is Minecraft in SSP. Many players refer GTA as a sandbox simply because you have more freedom than other open-world games:
tons of activities and secrets that have little to no impact to the story/objectives of the game (when they do, it's typically either secret or an easily losable bonus)
hidden weapons/vehicles
do jumps, ride a bike up a mountain and parachute
become a pizza boy, taxi or ambulance driver
minigames, get drunk, listen to the radio, watch TV
steal a boat, train, helicopter, forklift, ice-cream truck, monster truck, or tank
go on a date or NIKO, LET'S GO BOWLING
collectables/challenges
do whatever you want. you can get away with more (unlike Bethesda RPG (TM) where you are wanted for jail or death). Just lose the cops (can be as easy as hiding or spray-painting your car)
crime sprees/see how long you can avoid being arrested or wasted
3. People regularly do that? I'm guessing no, it's probably a speedrunner who has been speedrunning games for 5+ years, they're using a specific seed for certain known outcomes which they tediously practiced 'finishing' Minecraft over and over again as quickly as possible (the guy in the video you linked said around 500 times, some of the time determined by RNG).
Also the "with beds" part... that's likely an unintended action (exploding beds was added by Notch before the end was even a thing), that basically means the bed is a lethal joke item (trope). WOW, you're telling me that making TNT with 3 wool and 3 planks is overpowered? I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED. Though not sure how a joke item as an exploit to defeat the boss means the general combat was a joke.
Most players probably play the game as it happens, not even making a point to grind in order to 'beat' the game. I was going to make this point (I scrapped it because it was too long and kinda off-topic) with your images on survival game builds (TL;DR: those took a really long time not just learning the game but getting to end-game in that world), just because people go ABOVE AND BEYOND doesn't mean that's commonplace or even something encouraged by the game. I'm sure SOMEONE has (or eventually will have) carved a bar of soap into Abraham Lincoln using only their left big toe, but that's anecdotal and doesn't mean anything.
4. Yes, you jump and then hit, not very interesting. I wouldn't call that a 'skill' though.
Now if it was more of an aerial leap, it would be interesting. In other words, if you were above an enemy (not necessarily a player) where you jump down and use a downward slash on them. This would not only give higher damage, but it also slightly reduce fall damage (you reduce some of your momentum using your weapon through your arms, the rest goes to your feet). Basically it would be like what we've had only more useful/interesting. Especially if you could figure out how to use mobs like <insert movie scene here where character using a sword/dagger tearing cloth to slow fall>.
The shovel thing I mentioned earlier could be a good attack to use against baby zombies (I'd imagine a shovel to the face would work well at slowing down/stunning a caffeine-addled feral child trying to steal your redbull) to give an actual strategy to them other than avoiding them.
I've said it before on this thread, the sweep attack also is a poor implementation because it doesn't do any sort of calculation based on swing angle/mob height (it just checks how close mobs are to you). You should be able to sweep cows but not chickens (or on hostile mobs without hitting short neutral/friendly mobs!), or endermen and not zombies (if you don't like it, sweep lower where you can hit both). So one of the basic things they for combat they didn't even do it right.
Yes, click and hold is good because you're sacrificing time in exchange for power. It also can be versatile... for instance charge when still for sweep or charge when walking/sprinting for sword charge (knockback and hit multiple enemies as long as one was behind the other, sorta like a mob shishkebab), or charge while falling for the aerial attack I mentioned. Charge while blocking with a shield could be something interesting too...

I have been playing 1.9 for 5 months now (including snapshots) and I have not had it get "better" for me in any way.
In what way is it not getting better? Are you still frequently dying? Are you unable to adapt? Are you able to live/adapt, but simply dislike it? Some of these are fixable.
I would like to say the cool down on the weapons is just horrible not saying this update was bad its just the cool down has ruined my experience in survival mode in general and really should be a togglable option in the long run in this case i have to make this point through so its just not good in the slightest when survival is involved but on pvp i myself have no experience just saying this option i present is the best all around.

is a 0.6 second cooldown that bad? after all, the cooldown doesn't matter anyway, because all entities are invincible for 0.5 seconds after you hit them, which makes spam clicking pointless, also, the bow has had a cooldown with its drawback system since beta 1.8, and no one is complaining about that

3 why 1.9's pvp is better (my opinion )
3.1 it is not a big change in damage because after landing a hit the mob have a 0.5 sec of immunity unless the second hit deals more damage than the first, in 1.9 swords have a 0.6 delay.
3.2 adding that cooldown makes you think about what your are doing makes you use potions, shields, flint and steal ...ETC more often.
And after all you can use commands to revert it! (Lol)😉

Guys how don't like the pvp system,
I 've found a way to use the old boring spam in 1.9
Note:I am making a 1 cmd to automaticly change any new crafted sword/ axe to the old pvp but maybe later.
For now to give yourself a spam sword write this in a command block.
/give @p minecraft:diamond_sword 1 0 {AttributeModifiers:[{AttributeName:"generic.attackSpeed",Name:"generic.attackSpeed",Amount:11111,Operation:0,UUIDLeast:892253,UUIDMost:89249}],display:{Lore:[Click speed:SPAAAAM]}}

It's needed for custom weapons (same as changing damage). See Attributes on Wiki for more info.
