I'm already used to 1.9. Took me some time, but i don't see what's the problem in investing some time rather than just complaining about it. I seriously doubt that complaining is going to make it go away.
This thread is still alive? My goodness. After more than 3 weeks since the release of 1.9 and people are still complaining as a fact. Get used to changes, I say. People that give reasons on uncraftable Notch apples, deal with it. I've been playing Minecraft for 4 years and I have yet to craft any for consumption as the gold is better used elsewhere. People that say the attack cooldown is painful to deal with, deal with it, if it means you want to spam hit a mob 40 times to kill it, the decision is up to you. Your other solution is to modify the attack speed attribute of the weapon to some number (Can't remember how much) which will take you back to the old combat system. Either way, it does not change the fact of the invulnerability frame of 0.5 seconds posed by the natural game logarithm. I admit I was at lost when I first used the 1.9 snapshots and found out the mobs takes an exceeding amount of hits to kill, then I figured out myself something is done on the weapon cool down, and now I'm suited to the combat system in 1.9. Nor will I deny the fact on the painful process that it takes to gather the materials for the Ender Dragon re-fight. However, change is always inevitable, and I hope sometime later in this year people can appreciate the changes made in the game and start to like Minecraft again, not to stay forever in their comfort zone of "Oh, back then 1.8 when spam-clicking can easily kill anything... Now 1.9 is horrible and game breaking." Thie would not work, the community will never grow if this continues to be the case.

I saw people on server say that two hand are worthless and shield are ok but cool down isn't
But I mess around with snapshot and LOVED 1.9 and can't wait until 1.9 is out now but now I am waiting for 1.10.0. But they will get used to 1.9 combat
Even though I have gotten much more used to the changes within the past month, that does not mean I like them. It seems that skeletons and zombies spawn in bright areas, and it is hard to go outside anymore without being attacked by 3 skeletons. I know some may like this, but as someone who likes Minecraft mainly for building, it is very annoying. If I am doing something outside in 1.8 and a mob attacked me, you could just click them a few times and they would be gone. Now, if you are in the middle of building something and something attacks you, you have to sneak close to it with a shield, hit it with a sword, then put the shield back up and repeat it as many times as it takes. This takes around 10 times longer than it did in 1.8. I tried 1.9 combat, I don't like it, and it would be nice if they would have kept the changes in the 1.9.1 pre releases before they reverted them at the last second.

I've not seen them actually spawn in bright areas. BUT they do hide under trees when day comes so you can run into them in the daytime because of that. In Normal mode I rarely get attacked by more than 2 skeletons at a time. I usually don't block with the shield against zombies as it's quicker to just time your hits with the sword. I tend to rush close to the skeletons and use the sword not just to block their arrows but to get their arrows to bounce off and hit them. I haven't noticed it taking any longer to kill either of them using those methods. Now baby zombies are harder as they seem to have a smaller hit box. Sometimes I'll block with with the shield long enough to make sure I'm going to be hitting exactly on them. I also tend to clear the areas around where I'm building to cut down on the places for the skeletons and zombies to safely hide when day comes so they don't bother me much during the day.

I think that them hiding under trees seems most likely, but I had a very brightly lit room that one still spawned in (not a single block below light level 10.)
It might just be my bad internet connection that makes them take longer to kill, but the baby zombies I have no issue with when I have a shield (they don't take any longer than large zombies).
I love the combat additions but I have a problem with the whole "dragons breath in recipes" idea because what if you kill the ender dragon? then what? is that the end of lingering potions and tipped arrows for you until you get what you want from the extension for the end?
if you have an answer or idea or Im completely wrong about this please let me know:)
I dont like it because it wont even let me update to it . I update it in my Edit Profile settings and press save. Then i go to launch minecraft and nothing happens when i press play. D: Can someone please please help! ALso i am updated on the lastest Java

Make a new thread for that. Don't forget to post any launcher logs/error messages. (Yes I noticed you said nothing happens, but that can't be the case. There must be an error somewhere)
I think the devs are on the right track as far as combat goes, but it's still very broken. All removing spam clicking has done is buffed the power of regen potions (because you have more time between hits) and generally slowed down combat. Combat in Minecraft is still about the same as it used to be. I would love to see the devs making combat a generally deeper and more engaging experience with dual-wielding, mass weapons, ranged weapon falloff, and more options to take other than swing sword, block with shield, and drink potions.
PvP is far from broken, it's merely harder to destroy somebody even with better gear. In fact, I think PvP is more skill based than it's ever been. I've played on my fair share of servers that are purely based on how good your gear is and how long you've been playing. Gear is less important now as compared to skill, though it is far from complete.

Dear everyone who is complaining about this thread still going:
It's not about getting used to the changes, and it's not about thinking that if the thread keeps going, maybe Mojang will reverse the changes. It's simply about interacting with a community on a subject that many people feel passionate about. You have to understand that some people enjoy discussing, analyzing and debating things. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I've not noticed anything truly taking longer to kill if you time your hits well. The only issue I've had really is the baby zombie is a bit harder to hit BUT if I actually hit it with each swing it dies in the same amount of time

You simply respawn the dragon if you want more lingering potions and tipped arrows.
I would say that among all of the changes in 1.9, combat affects the most players and thus is the most hateable. But the Brewing stand is what is dislike the most. (The fact that it needs blaze powder)

A single blaze powder lets you use the brewing stand 20 times. Just killing a few extra Blaze in the nether fortresses should hold you just fine.
Really "Mojang" was wanting to spruce up "Minecraft" to make it more realistic. For example, every half second you hit some one with a sword in "Minecraft"... In real life swords are heavy. I don't know why people hate on it now, you had to slice and step back with creepers (Or spam click before it explodes <_<). People now and days are in such a rush they hate the mechanism for combat since it takes too long. I can't remember the exact decimal but maybe it was 1.2 seconds to wait. Seriously, 1.2 seconds isn't very long at all! But, people think it sucks so badly since now they have to learn to actually play PvE. In my opinion, in a year people will be over it. Know why, because they'll have to fight to survive. Soon they'll realise the more they whine the less likely to have fun playing "Minecraft". Because all "Mojang" wants is us to have fun!

That sounds like a bug as they shouldn't be spawning in bright light. I don't think I've seen that happen even in the snapshots though. Wonder if it's related to this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/discussion/173436-zombies-spawning-in-light-level-8
