I just saw a snapshot for 1.9 and rip pvp I thought 1.8 pvp was bad but it looks godlike compared to how much 1.9 will ruin pvp,
the only way to do damage is having 1 click per second any more then that and your sword does no damage :\
I don't get this pretty much a 5 year old can pvp now there is no skill anymore literally you can 'click' shield for that 1 second 'click' shield 'click' shield
no strafing no comboing people anymore whats next are you guys going to make bows have to b fully charged before you can shoot them?!?
I just really think mojang should ask a pvp community what would be better in a next update because 1.8 and 1.9 now are ruining it so hard!
I mean hypixel (the number 1 server) still has its hunger games and other pvp games in 1.7 that has to tell you something..
First, how did 1.8 ruin PVP, and second, you're saying now theres no strafing or combos and a five year old can do it? I'm sure a five year old could PVP before, when it was just clicking as fast as possible. Now you actually need a little bit of skill to fight.
1.9 will also ruin PvE if they have actually done that; so what happens now when you are faced with a horde of zombies? No more fighting them off without walling yourself in (or have they added the ability for zombies to break blocks too now so they can get to you? That was actually a suggestion a while back). On the other hand, have they removed the 1/2 second damage immunity? Not that it matters much anymore; I wouldn't mind if they had increased the immunity time to 1 second instead since when faced with many mobs and with Knockback on your sword the overall hit rate is more important than the hit rate per mob. They also probably haven't bothered fixing mob AI and spawning issues so they figured that you wouldn't face such situations, which I face constantly.
Thankfully, you don't have to update; I'm actually still playing on 1.6.4 *gasp*, and every passing day (update) makes it more and more certain that is the last version I'll ever play on, at least in vanilla, with the fact that I can mod the game myself making it even less likely (and why bother with later versions if I'd have to mod them even more to revert changes they made). Multiplayer is another matter but you even said that one popular server (and probably more) is still on 1.7. Let's just hope that they don't force you to play on the latest version...
Well, right now, whenever you're faced with a mob all you did is spam click to kill them, it makes the game really really easy. With this there will be a little more of a challenge and it gives more of a reason to be a bit careful with how you deal with enemies.
Remember the whole: "Todays snapshot makes a start on the melee combat changes, which are completely not final nor balanced at all in the absolute slightest not even a little bit really honestly seriously. We welcome all feedback, but please remember that nothing is yet balanced and the mechanics themselves are subject to change and redesign." thing?
Did anyone really expect Mojang to add in shields as long as spam clicking was the metagame? Why add in an item that, by all definitions, is useless since all that matters is dealing more damage than the opponent. Shielding an attack with the current spam clicking mechanics would just waste time on your end, making you deal less damage overall, putting you at a disadvantage.

A mob? Is that how bad things are in 1.8? Because this was certainly NOT the result of "a mob", which suggests just one:
Or this; I've probably killed close to a quarter-million mobs in all my time playing:
Also, I have an incentive NOT to just spam-click unless I'm faced with situations like this - prior to 1.7 swords lost durability even when you hit a mob during its damage immunity period (less relevant with a horde of mobs as I'll likely hit a different mob each time); I can actually break a golden sword in new condition on one zombie by clicking fast enough (I've often mentioned that it was unfortunate that they "fixed" this). For example, see this video (about 2 minutes in) of somebody playing on my mod and note how quickly their wooden sword loses durability (should be able to last 60 uses or 30 passive mobs killed; they kill 3 cows and it is already about halfway down):
I'd probably wear out an Unbreaking III diamond sword in a single play session if I clicked like that.
By anyway, I couldn't care less about 1.9; I stopped caring about updates after 1.7.
Hey whiny people, the snapshots are called experimental for a reason! Put in the features, let people try them out, tweak the features, so on and so forth. Seriously, if you want to not have to put up with the rough side of playing a potentially broken section of a patch's development, then play the established versions. Who would've known it was THAT simple!

The majority of features that are in the snapshots end up in the final product. The only cases where this is not true tend to be if the developers can't think of a way to fix the lag it causes or there's a huge outrage on the fan's end.

"If you don't like it, don't buy it"
I just think that a game that is really easy is not fun at all. Now, there is just flat out plain stupid. But, the game needs more depth in combat. Also, remember those alpha items? Like lanterns or quivers? Yeah. They got removed, you know why? Because there was no use for it. And you know what I think Mojang will do if you REALLY don't like it? They'll remove it. Simple as that. Mojang has a reputation for that, and listening to the community. The world is saved, and you can go back to your lives.
All of this whining is just because people are bad at pvp. Now, I'm good at pvp. (oc.tc lies) However, you might sense a pattern here right? Well, once I was a wee little humanoid. And when I started to pvp, I didn't like it that much. Specifically because of the constant spamming. I also think this is for good because hackers are gonna have to remake the code of there clients. For better or worse? Who knows.
Well, 1.9 (or 15w34a, the snapshot before 15w33c) was great up until 15w34a, when they added the combat strength thing. It makes PVP a lot harder, but I do (sorta) like the zombies raising their arms. I played on this 1.9 snapshot KitPVP server (yeah, that exists), and now today (8/19/15) people are dying a lot more than yesterday. Spam clicking isn't going to be a good thing for PVP servers, and especially players that PVP often, as it impairs their ability to spam their mouse button. I mean, this is only the 4th snapshot, things are going to be added/removed, and hopefully, (this is my opinion) spam clicking would not be removed. I PVP a lot on popular servers, and I often spam click to kill the opponent(s). I mean, I click way too much in other games, so it would be bad to remove spam clicking.

"this is only the 4th snapshot"
1.1 had 5 snapshots
Anyway, it's a huge change to PVP even if it doesn't seem like it. People tend to use OP features.

Except that exactly this has been one of the most requested change in the community. Those people die a lot because they have yet to get accustomed to this new system. Timing enhances the strategy required to PvP, something that couldn't been done before other than clicking as fast as you could. That was not fun.
Rip pvp PVP will be pretty much ruined if there is a attack indicator. I hope that there is a game rule for that. Hope hypixel and mineplex will not update to 1.9
I think that everybody is overreacting a LITTLE BIT. If they wanted to make the game suck, they wouldn't be so successful. I would take their word on it if I were you. You haven't even played it yet for god sakes give it a chance.
Ruin PVP?! What are you talking about, this is great for PvP! Because now a new move is possible: retreat!
At last, the player who has less health/armor can try to flee off or use some corner tactics. Before, it pretty much all depended on your ping or who started spam-clicking first, really. Near zero skill involved. Now I can see fights having more suspense. So facing the other player directly and spam-clicking will not be the best tactic now. Also sneaking on someone will have less of a devastating effect. And with melee combat more evened out, bows will gain a lot of value in PvP too, specially with the new arrow types.
Of course, there are still a lot of things to polish, but I'm looking forward to test the new fighting system in PvP. I have the feeling it might turn out more fun that expected.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

I am starting to remember all the "Minecraft is to easy" threads. And just as Plyb said, nothing is final.

A mob of mobs is still technically a mob in a different sense. I mean... next time I'll put an s on the end of it... (Btw I love your thread)
this is the worst thread in a while
