Minecraft's incessant updates that add absolutely nothing to the game need to stop. I'm absolutely sick of terrible additions that add nothing to the game - today with the release of the 1.9 snapshot is a prime example. Shields? Dual-wielding? What is the point? Why are these implemented?
Shields? Basically a replacement for blocking with swords. Shields make absolute sense. Dual-wielding? The way they executed it was perfect. In fact, the only mechanic it affects is arrows, and finally having an "arrow" slot is a dream come true.
The game is slipping into a void of apathy and utter crap. From horses to endermites, customizable worlds to "shulkers," the game is slowly becoming worse and worse, like a poison drip.
Right, because horses don't make any sense at all. Endermites are just a fun little end themed mob, what's the issue with that? Customizeable worlds? Oh no, I want to be able to freely choose how my world looks, and that barely affects normal gameplay. Darnit.
The ability to add sounds to a texture pack sent the game down a few notches; even creative mode has negatively impacted the game.
Sounds in a texture pack is a blessing for servers and mapmakers. Have you seen some of the things Hypixel has done with that? And as for creative mode? One of the game's main features is building - I fail to see how being able to build anything you want is an issue.
The "golden age" of Minecraft was late alpha, when the best implementations were present, without any of the noise.
Then go play Alpha. Obviously, you don't enjoy any features past 1.6. Instead of complaining about the game and changing nothing, go play the version you liked last. I'll admit that Alpha was pretty awesome, I enjoyed it thoroughly, but the things you can do in Minecraft nowadays are awesome. Infinite creativity at your fingertips!
I'm sorry for this rant, but something needs to be done about this. Let's rise up and convince Mojang to revert the game back to its alpha stages.
Mojang's never going to change back to Alpha stages (I wouldn't mind the old world gen back, however, you can modify that in customizeable worlds). I hate to say that, but after 8 whole updates and a bunch of tiny ones, they aren't going back. Just move on, or continue playing Alpha. Complaining isn't going to change anything at all.
Look, I respect your opinion, everyone is entitled to one, but as some have already said, it's your opinion, not ouropinion.

The updates are keeping the game fresh for a lot of people, if you dont like it then you can revert to the older versions and play on that. I'm sure you could find a server that runs old MC for nostalgia reasons
How so? Minecraft is an ever-evolving game that's always in it's "Golden Age". Creative mode was the first mode in MC and has changed a lot for the better.

No. Just no.
First of all, those aren't terrible updates. You know, you can just go back to Alpha in the launcher. Shields introduce better combat mechanics. If you want to go back to just clicking on the very small amount of mobs in Alpha, you can. The left hand is something that has been suggested by lots of people and makes the game better for left-handed people. Horses, while not "fitting in" with Minecraft as well as some of the other mobs, are still lots of fun to ride. Endermites are just small additions, but they aren't bad. You don't have to use customized worlds, and Shulkers add variety into the End. The ability to add sounds to a resource pack made the game worse? Are you kidding me? Without that, lots of adventure maps and resource packs would be not as good as they are. And creative mode is bad? What? Creative was the first mode in the game, and it lets you build anything you want! So you're saying that the entire community should go back to playing a version of Minecraft without anything that was added after Alpha? No. I don't think the entire community (which is 20,345,593 at the time of this post) is going to want to play a version of Alpha without creative mode.
And yes, I know lots of people before me said this.
This thread is a joke and I don't know why its even here. It's very funny when a single individual comes to complain about something they don't like instead of moving on with themselves. Like if your going to complain, have the community back you up at least.
I love that 99% of games that have an alpha these days (DayZ, Besiege, ARK, etc.) are all full of people who are bugging the developers to get a full release out and leave alpha/beta forever. Minecraft seems to be the only game where there are people who are telling the developers to remove new feature that has been added in the last five years. It just makes no sense.
Especially since Mojang has given all players the ability to play on nearly every version that has ever been released.
As for your opinion that most players just 'go with the flow'? What's the other option? Go against the flow and convince Mojang to stop development of the game all together? I'd prefer to keep having the game update, but thanks for the suggestion.
P.S. I've been playing this game since June 2010 (which was during Indev, before alpha). I see no advantage of playing that over the current version, other than the occasional nostalgia trip.
Here is a summary of what I think about this thread;
To all who are saying "go back and play alpha in the launcher." What am I supposed to do? Play single player, entirely alone, with no mods? Nobody is playing those updates anymore, and most mod support is a thing of the past.
What needs to be done is a permanent revert to alpha, rendering it the default version. Then you can "go back" and play your "better" version with all the useless additions.
This is Minecraft now. If you don't like such a large percentage of the additions, you don't like the game. If you want to play an unpolished, bug-infested (playable) concept of a game, then that's fine by me. But stopping all updates because you don't like them is not reasonable at all. You have also stated that you don't want to revert back to Alpha because there won't be multiplayer or mods.
Multiplayer I understand, but mods?
Mods add new content, and you seem to not want new content. Updates are bad, new things are bad. Why would you install mods of all things? They are basically optional updates made by (usually) less professional developers.
Also, that isn't what needs to be done. If you started a poll, and everyone on MCF (who currently plays Minecraft, Alpha, Beta, or otherwise.) vote, you would be in a vast minority.
[edit] Also, don't get me wrong, I loved alpha. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. But then new things came, and I accepted them. Sometimes, I was doubtful of new additions, but now I am usually excited for every update that comes the community's way. The features I wasn't fond of, I have grown to love. Be a bit more open minded, please. [/edit]

You have a 0% chance for Mojang to return MInecraft to alpha versions. I respect your opinion that you like it better, but you are a minority. Oceandrop, you should start a thread to gather pro-alpha players like you and make a server. A mod to disable the 'bad' features wouldn't be too difficult to build.
No one plays Minecraft the same. Their's a reason many mod features such as emerald armor or guns don't find their way into vanilla.
In Short: Play it the way you want, let us play it the way we want.
Just had a thought. Is it just me or does the thread title sound like he's trying to... break up with Minecraft?
Oceandrop: It's been 6 long years we've been together, darling. Our relationship has grown over the years, but...
Minecraft: What is it, honey?
Oceandrop: I think it's time we went our separate ways. You've been trying so hard to fit in to the community, but I love you just the way you are. If you won't change, I'll have to let you go.
Minecraft: No! I can change! I can be like before, honestly!
I think the "combat" update seems more like the "end update" (so far) more than anything.... and yeah, I think it's going to end up useless (in SSP specifically) because I think 90% of player won't:
1. Collect enough ender eyes, likely by grinding endermen and blazes, to find a stronghold you'd not likely find otherwise
2. Have enough ender eyes to activate the portal
3. Be prepared enough to defeat the ender dragon
Just to access the new end content. There was a chance to find an entrance to a stronghold above ground? Maybe. If hunger wasn't so messed up where you have to eat after a short while of getting hurt to still heal? Maybe.
But then again, it's end-game content. There's really nothing special so far, just the end poles that'd probably be better than glowstone, loot that you probably can easily attain by now. If they were keeping the beacon on the random ship, maybe, but apparently they're removing that.
Getting excited about this is like getting excited over the Wither dropping random look like enchanted golden apples+books and diamond blocks. Especially when you've never fought the wither and never planned to, and never even got a wither skull because they're such rare drops that you have to grind for them.

Minecraft has problems still, but not that. Also, Mojang has always been bad at implementation, they haven't gotten any better or worse at it. Just different. Also not sure if you're serious, especially that last line.

Also, what else you've overlooked: As soon as the plugin API comes around, you can disable all of these features that you hate.
In vanilla.

Oh look. A complaint thread. So what's new?
Figured it was time for a change.
Oh, you know. The usual 'I hate this stuff' and then the massive poopstorm of negative replies. We really do need a complaints section, I have to say.
Indeed we do.

I'm certain you feel this is the best version and development should have stopped here?
Then stop playing, you self-entitled social justice warrior.
I really don't see a valid point in your post...
