I think that each season should last 20 Minecraft days (so 400 minutes). Seasons should be changeable like /gamerule do_season_change false/true. You should also be able to set the season /season fall/summer/spring/winter. It never snows in dessert biomes or taiga even in the winter. In summer snow plains and snow forests turn into regular plains and regular forests. Temperature is another thing that goes along with seasons. You can freeze to death in extremely cold weather and set on fire in extremely hot weather. Snow should melt in temperatures hotter then 33+ degrees Fahrenheit or 1+ degrees Celsius. The hotter it is the faster snow melts. mobs should also be affected by heat and cold conditions and when you hit f3 it should show the temperature of the chunk you are currently in also mob spawn rates should be lower in winter and higher in the summer and crops should have more trouble growing in the winter. Therefore food which right now is way to easy to get will be at more of a rarity so people will have to stock up in summer. When a new world is created it should begin with spring and flowers are everywhere and some trees have some pink or red leaves to represent buds. In the summer the pink leaves turn into apple leaves that when broken will drop 1-3 apples. summer is pretty similar to what mine craft is like now in a forest or plains biome in fall all leaves turn red, orange, or yellow and fall from the trees so they are bare and leafless. Leaf piles are found on the ground in forests in fall. In winter instead of raining it will snow and snow will cover all biomes. When it returns to spring again slowly the leaves should grow back and and the snow will melt at the same rate. Mountain peaks' snow never melts. Adding potions of freezing and fire are also good ideas. potion of fire is crafted in a brewing stand with adding a fire charge to an awkward potion. The potion of freezing is the same except with packed ice instead of a fire charge. Lastly add 2 new blocks called the AC and the heater. I don't have a crafting recipe right now but if someone has an idea post it below.
I love the idea of seasons but maybe make the seasons 15 Minecraft days (300 mins). I really like the idea of the /gamerule_do_season_change false/true because it can make adventure maps cooler. Also they should make it so that if you're wearing leather clothes in the winter you have a less of a chance of freezing to death. But I'm not sure if everyone will agree with the idea of seasons because it will make the game harder.
Could you give a link to said suggestion? (Mojang's twitter post or something)

In summer, the altitude at which snow falls on mountain peaks should go up; in winter, it should go down. The very highest peaks should have snow year-round, but lower ones can go bare in summer.
Snowless taiga and forest hills should probably get snowy in winter, maybe even plains biomes. Savannah, Jungle, and Desert/Mesa should probably remain snow-free, except maybe at high altitudes.
Rain should be more frequent in fall/spring.
Wild animals (those with sky exposure above) should have a chance to get into breeding mode for a few days each spring, or maybe fall depending on species. Perhaps this can replace ongoing random spawns of passive mobs?
Ice should spread to neighboring chunks and/or biomes in winter.
Mob spawn rates could be tweaked by season as well. Undead mobs (zombies, skeletons) spawn more in winter/fall, living ones (Creepers, spiders) in the spring/summer. There should be a squid season as well.
Crop/Sapling growth ticks should be less frequent in winter/fall and more frequent in spring/summer. Apple drop rates should increase in summer, wheat should give double yield in fall. Maybe carrot and potatoes should have a seasonal boost to drop rates as well. Opposite season from the one that gives a crop a yield boost, their max drop number should go down by one or something. All of this should only impact crops/saplings that get 15 sky light in daytime, completely underground or indoors crops should be even year-round.

I don't think seasons make sense with the biome system, which if you recall was changed to help avoid silly things like snow next to hot biomes (which I don't think was silly either, the game doesn't need to be realistic and people were already complaining that the terrain was boring and without variation). And in particular, I thought Minecraft is supposed to be on a planet similar to Earth; catching fire during the summer certainly seems to suggest Mercury or something (yes, Mercury technically doesn't have "seasons" but you'll either burn or freeze depending on the time of day, which lasts for 176 Earth days, so close enough)...
Not to mention, I can just imagine how laggy 1.9 will be based on 1.8 and having to update millions of blocks (billions for a large world) with the seasons... Especially suggestions like trees losing/regrowing their leaves - so I suppose that means vast amounts of structure data (as if existing strictures don't already cause problems) to save data for every tree so the game knows where the leaves are supposed to be or even making them some sort of entity/tile entity...

If we go with a Season Mod sort of thing then it will just affect the color of leaves in fall, it snows and water freezes at lower altitudes during winter (in cold and intermediate biomes of course)
Snow melts at higher altitudes during summer (Nothing silly like the world catching on fire), and in spring grass and flowers start re-regrowing, etc.
It will mostly be Aesthetic, no block changes at all.
I like the idea! I don't think that you should burn up in hot weather. Maybe you would just lose hunger faster, or not be able to sprint for long durations. Maybe they will add thirst. ( Hopefully Not ). I think that you should add craft-ables such as a coat, pants, and boots. Have a single one of the items would allow you to not freeze as fast in cold conditions. Having all three on at once would prevent you from freezing indefinitely. Maybe if you put coal into a heater, it would keep the the area around you warm for an 8 x 8 space. I don't think an AC is necessary for summers. Also in fall, leaves should fall from the trees. In Oak Woods and Birch Forests the trees would turn yellow, orange, and brown. In winter, trees could be more bear. Maybe in winter new mobs such as rabbits would hibernate, making them impossible to find.
Replace that compass with a clock, if you know what I'm saying.

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
....I'd love it if lakes, rivers and ocean shores would freeze during winter. Food, trees etc. shouldn't grow at all during winter so that you'd have to rely on hunting or food that you gathered during the warm seasons. But I'd add a splash potion that makes things grow even in winter.
I like the idea of the seasons limiting your food sources. You could even make plants seasonal (potatoes in fall, carrots in spring for example).

That'd make the game even more fun! Then you'd have to be careful on your food sources as I know some foods give less or more hunger then others! That'll be nice
Screadugengan : Before they've said they'd add certain things for other platforms ,and stuff. It took them some time to add it in-game after awhile of them saying they would. So theirs still a chance of it being added.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
