Correct me if I'm wrong... but did mojang not do MASSIVE internal rewrites and a bunch of bug fixes as well in this update? That could explain your 1 year wait time, also, did they not redo the rendering engine? I'm no coding whiz, but wasn't the rewrite of that sorta a big deal? Did they also create a new custom world type and it's GUI for us? Stop whining and enjoy the game mojang has made for us...
Edit: Sorry for bumping an old post, I was unaware it was an old one :/ sorry!

Minecraft 1.8 only brought us more lag. And i think the Ocean Monument thing very uncreative and unecessary. Armor Stands is useless. Armor was added to decrease damage dealt. If you want that a player see your awesome armor, wear it.
This Just In! MicroJang hires team of 300 to rewrite minecraft code base from scratch to add more colors to armour stands. Stay tuned, More at 9pm.
Heh, that made me laugh. Let's hope MicroJang doesn't do some stupid decision like that in reality..

No he doesn't. Just because he doesn't like that we discuss the update doesn't mean we should do what he says.
I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about this part:

Really? You can't figure out how I arrived at that number?
It's like 5 floppies of code. What the heck did they do for a year?
There's a lot more to coding than simply typing. Besides, Mojang did lots of internal engine rewrites that don't really add up to the file size, and trust me, figuring out what old code does and trying to find an other way to do the same but faster and more easily expandable can be very hard and very time consuming.
And after all, don't forget that there's only a (relatively) small team working on Minecraft (for now?).

Still doesn't mean we will stay quiet because he doesn't like it.
Holy Cow! The bloat. The older versions of MC were around 4MB in size. So they took nearly a year to add 3MB of code.
You don't strike me as a very smart man. 3MB of code equals thousands of lines, possibly hundreds of thousands. And not only is that what they added, but they also rewrote the majority of the 4MB they had before, which is thousands of more lines of code. I want you to go write several thousand lines of code that perform advanced light calculations, then get back to me when you finish that part of the update, much less everything else they added. Seriously, don't throw around file sizes thinking it makes you look intelligent when it is blatantly obvious you have no idea what you are talking about.

The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.

It's not just random letters first of all. And second of all, have you tried even coding a simple PICKAXE? It's hard!! Imagine trying to rework a lighting engine, fix tons of bugs, add new dungeons, mobs, items, commands, and crafting recipes!

more than 500 classes were changed out of 1800. That is nearly 1/3 of the entire game, now think about it. They have been making the game for a lot of years and to change that many class files is a lot of time. Just think.
My reaction to this post is... If you think they're not doing it fast enough, do it yourself.
You'll find java coding isn't as easy as it looks. You can start by go making mod yourself and then you can put whatever the crap you want into it if you want different things. Cause in Minecraft, legitimately ANYTHING is possible if you know how to do it.

There will always be that kind of a moment at least once in everyone's life. That moment when your sitting there listening to someone going down memory lane, but really not listening at all.

Stop whining about other people that whine.

GuyInJeans has a very good point.
You do understand that text and lines of code barely take up any memory at all? And where did you get that number from, anyway?
