If you don't like it, then fine. but saying over and over about how Mojang sucks and about how your entitled to good updates and how jeb is the anti-Christ isn't going to change the fact that they're going through with the update. Update if you want. Don't update if you don't like it. Seriously, its that simple.
You guys are missing the whole point of 1.8... i agree, what's the point of armory stands, or red sandstone... but the real biggest 2 points of 1.8 are the Name Changing and the Slime Blocks, who knows where RPG servers could be going... who knows how long until the pistons will push more than 12 blocks... Slime blocks and name changing are technically the main features of 1.8...
and by the way, Mojang is shutting down optifine. Mojang controls minecraft, they can add any mods they want to it. the Optifine creator was just a mean kid who wanted money by giving away "capes" that they are free capes with cape mods like MCCapes... then people started scamming it... so Mojang wants to stop that, so they are shutting down Optifine.

Im an insult to Etho and Mindcrack, yet I am a fan of it
Well I didn't like the new player model that 1.8 gave us. But really, it's coming out tomorrow. We might a well give a couple of days and see how it is. ANd if we don't like it then we can play an older version with modpacks, mods, and older servers. though the reason I don't really like this forum (even though I've been commenting a lot lol) Is because we are so rude to each other. Minecraft defenders you guys can calm down.... This thread is for people who didn't like some of the things they added. heck you can even create a thread on how good it is. SOME of the people who didn't like 1.8, you guys need to be a little nicer here. Note: I'm not trying to be boss, I just want to fix this problem so everyone can get along. As much as you don't like 1.8, try to say something like: Well that could have taken a little less time. I wish they added a little bit more but a least we got guardians, that is kinda cool... instead of: OMG, 1.8 sucked!!!!! Everything they added was horrible!!!! the only good thing they added is guardians and water temples!!! I miss Notch. No, this doesn't apply to anyone honestly but let's calm down and try ( like you said ) to be reasonable!
That's all I gotta say lol
I don't think people are defending Minecraft at all, criticism is good and analysis of what works and what doesn't work is excellent, but this thread is complaining about a lack of content, a complaint that is unwarranted because those who are complaining about lack of content failed to name even half of the content added into 1.8 and failed to recognise the amount of work that went into the 1.8 update, the people are defending the recognition of Mojang's hard work for this update rather than Minecraft itself.
The new player model is optional, you aren't forced to use it and not everyone will be using it
Wow, indeed. I use optifine to modify aspects of the game. Especially what I don't like... like bedrock fog, removing the stupid rain junk that lags me to kingdom come, the rain noise that drives me bonkers ... etc.
No they are not shutting them down, the capes are Optifine clients only and Mojang are okay with cosmetic paid-for items, not to mention Optifine is a mod, not a server, so the server pay-for-items EULA agreement doesn't apply here.
The capes for Optifine will return, it's a very simple client-side modification to do so there's no technical reason for the capes to not be in the next Optifine version.
HAS MOJANG WENT MAD?!?! They could have removed the Cape feature, but nooo, They're going to shut down Optifine! That's insane! It supports connected textures and speeds up Minecraft, but they're going to shut it down instead of remove the cape feature. I can imagine them saying "haha too bad for your laggy computers, update to 1.8 for faster stuff plz."

Please provide a source for this, there is nothing at all that says they are shutting down Optifine and the Optifine capes do not fall under the server EULA and even if it did the capes are a cosmetic item that does not affect gameplay which Mojang are okay with.
There is no technical reason for Optifine to remove the capes in their next version anyway (And a 1.8 version is coming), the Optifine cape is a very simple client-side lookup, it's nothing special and it can only be seen by other players with Optifine.
Minecraft defending at it's finest. Go play with your half-done update you've been waiting a year for.
Also, if anyone wants to complain "oh you are tearing the community apart", the community is already doing that themselves. They are already insulting eachother and devided themselves into two segments: People with actual sense of reasoning and intelligence, and those who just accept everything as-is and don't question anything because minecraft is teh best gaem
Minecraft is not the best game by far. However, Things such as that are opinions. And people like you responding to people like me and vice versa are whats tearing the community apart. And i am insulted at your statement that everyone who likes this new update is dumb. I am by no means dumb, and i like this update. I got above average or higher in every class i took last year.
Once again, this is a matter of opinion, and doesnt deserve its own thread. This needs to be locked. SOON.
Game breaking? You're still playing, no?*Sigh* There's a difference between game breaking and unplayable. If it was unplayable, he wouldn't play. If it broke aspects of the game, he can still play. And we are still playing it, arent we?
If you make the choice to buy a car with square wheels then no-one has any obligation to change them for you later. So if I buy a house that isn't up to code, it shouldn't be fixed? No, because you bought the house willingly. If you want it fixed, its on your own money.
Because mods are the incarnation of what players want. And because they ran out of good ideas Mojang has NOT ran out of ideas. Bunnies, rabbits feet, the underwater temple things (I forget exactly what they're called but whatever) are all original ideas in this update, and i could probably list more.
They don't copy code. They don't steal mods. You can't posses an idea. Adding the best mod ideas into vanilla is AWESOME.
How many multiple hours of Mojang's work do you give them credit for when discussing this update? The amount of time it took compared to the amount it should have taken. So what if it took a little longer than expected? You dont know whats going on at mojang right now, so you have no right to assign a time limit on updates.
Of course Ford can create an audio deck that achieves what Pioneer's audio deck does, and include it in their cars. 100% ok, no rights infringed. Lol, no response here.
You can't copyright a camera. Mojang doesn't do anything with anyone else's code (unless they give permission).
Sony is perfectly entitled to take a camera and try to take the same photos you took (like coder B writing new code to try and achieve what coder A achieved with their code). Also 100% ok.That isn't what he said. He said if they took the other companies stuff, and sold it again. THAT is copyright infringement, however, what Mojang is doing is completely legit.
It's fine for someone else to make a game where you manipulate a world made of blocks. It's been done many times since minecraft.Again, it isn't what he said. He said if you specifically took Minecraft, and sold it with something else. It's ok to make a game like it. That is also copyright infringement, However, making a game based on blocks is not copyright infringement on minecraft.
And this causes you pain/grief/anything at all how? Don't use them if you don't like them.So he isn't allowed to have an opinion. I'll *cough* report it immediately for people being unique. He didn't say anything along the lines of not being able to have an opinion. He basically said. "If you dont like it, dont use it!" Stop putting words in other people's mouths.
GG Mojang, you just ruined your own game by shutting down a mod that allowed lot's of people to play the game without lags.
Site this please. Optifine does not infringe the new EULA, and therefore, unless it were added to minecraft, mojang has no reason to shut it down. So unless you site it from an official source, the above post is pointless.
I read up the EULA to confirm Optifine stuff (this EULA is really toxic...)
Optifine is not shutting down, however their capes will be removed to comply with the EULA's (very unusual clause) that means any players with a cape must have gotten the cape from a Mojang official source, even if the cape is client-side modifications only (Which Optifine is).
That is really bizarre because the Optifine capes have zero to do with Mojang and are not even visible for players who are not running Optifine, it goes through Optifine's own donation servers so this is a very strange move by Mojang.
Optifine will stick around, they'll probably change the cape to a hat or something. Again, this EULA is pretty darn toxic against some rather weird things that Mojang shouldn't be worrying about :/
How about you go and start a game like this and try to get updates out fast
Actually, as a game dev, the different aspects of the update should have only taken a couple months at most. 1 year was ridiculous considering most of the features are mods already.
Actually, as a game dev, the different aspects of the update should have only taken a couple months at most. 1 year was ridiculous considering most of the features are mods already.
Do you know whats going on at mojang? Do you know what notch and jeb have going on in their lives? do you know the workload or the amout of code it took to write this update? I would think not. Therefore you have no right to put a time limit on minecraft's updates.
Actually, as a game dev, the different aspects of the update should have only taken a couple months at most. 1 year was ridiculous considering most of the features are mods already.
You don't sound like you understand game development fully; Mojang don't just copy paste in mods they clean-room reimplement the features of mods in their own way, so development time of a feature that already exists in a mod would take as much time as the mod's original development time + their bug testing and integration stages (Bug testing is mostly done by the community, so this time is down to 10 minutes at Mojang haha).
And as a game dev you should better understand the engine updates that Minecraft has received for 1.8, you should understand the difficulty of refactoring an old code base for threaded running and you should understand the difficulty of creating a split rendering pipeline for the vertex buffer objects, this is no easy feat especially considering Minecraft's infamously terrible original code-base.
Adding features is one thing, but they've done a lot of engine work here to get a load of performance out of it and you of all people should be able to recognise that against the implementation of features.

Just chalk it up to a move by Mojang because the kid exercised his right to say "no".

Well what I'm trying to say that saying it nicer (or whatever) probably could fix a few problems then just saying how horrible it is. If people want to be critics they have to look at the good and the bad to be pretty good critics (if you know what I mean) and from what I'm seeing, most people dislike the new update. however i myself love the update and I find noting wrong and your right, it is optional. that was just to the people who know what there are doing and should probably tone it down a little bit. the forums say to be nice to so I'm just trying to bring peace to both sides.

edit: did not read your 2 last posts. that is kinda wat I meant tho, you cant have a cape unless Mojang made the cape.
I may be wrong, but this means that they aren't shutting down, correct?
EULA
There is one exception to this rule – capes! We have a lot of fun making cool capes for extra-special members of our community and Minecon attendees. We’d like to keep them as exclusive as possible. So, yeah, no capes please, even if you’re giving them away for free.
Source: https://mojang.com/2014/06/lets-talk-server-monetisation/
This is from the EULA statement.
Now then, I won't argue here nor there, but Optifine isn't going down. Worst case scenario is no capes.

Not update to 1.8 if you don't like it.

There shutting down optifine! That's the only way I can get my minecraft to run without lag!
ps they shut down mc capes cause you could get free capes
Yes. cause I totally spread gold bars on my toast...
