Mojang is trying to make it the same style as the current doors we have right now, most likely. They're currently 2D and look fine. I agree the new doors look odd 2D but at the same time it looks just as good as the current doors.

This will never be reimplemented unless you decide to reimplement it yourself by modding the game. I bet most of the people who have voted and replied don't know Java, so good luck on having someone make a mod for this.

Actually this requires zero java. A simple reasource pack of the old doors will get exactly what people are complain about but too lazy to actually do.

Nah everyone who doesn't like the updates can just play on their outdated versions on their windows 98 pc lol.

You can't use a resource pack for the 3 dimensional doors. A modification would need to be developed to reimplement the 3 dimensional doors from 14w32d. Mojang won't reimplement the 3 dimensional doors because they would break many resource packs.

Umm... since like 14w25a or something, Minecraft has had the ability for resource packs to use custom models. I myself use my own 3d models for doors with zero mods.
Check your sources next time. It is VERY possible for people to go back and get the 3D doors for use in later versions via a small resource pack.
But that doesnt mean everything in the game has to have 3D depth to them, otherwise what about flowers and grass and reeds? Why is no one complaining about glass looking flat and one sided?
Glass panes do have depth. Sort of, anyway; you can't see it if it's connected to blocks on all sides. Giving them a model, though, would be as useful as giving spruce, birchen, and dark oak doors a model; why bother? They barely have any depth that can be shown. Besides, they're supposed to be thin and have little depth; if you look out a window IRL, you don't really see the depth of the glass pane, even when you look at where the frame and the pane meet.
As for grass and reeds and whatnot, my argument from before still stands (resolution is probably too low for it to look good in most cases and it could potentially cause performance issues). It'd be a better idea if the default textures were 32x32.
(Additionally, for those who want it, here is the resource pack Echonite was referring to: http://www.mediafire.com/?kfvowlbyplv3pen. Do note that the models do not work in this pack when the doors are open, or at least, the iron and oaken ones; haven't tested the other two.)

Oh really?
Then explain this:
And it's not only for doors...
This is all in 1.8, by the way. You can get all of this in resource packs, not modifications. It's a feature of 1.8.
That first image really does tell you that if some random guy making a resource pack can make Oak/Iron Doors 3D rather than a professional million-dollar company, there are some lazy employees lying around.
Whatever, you can always use this resource pack to get them back...

The reason Godzilla 2014 failed was because there was no Mothra in it.
Mothra is the only reason Godzilla is good. Mothra saved the movie industry. If Mothra never existed nobody would like movies. The reason many people hate Call of Duty is because it lacks Mothra.
I changed my name to MothraFanboy27.

That's getting into a whole other argument. Personally I do think Minecraft would look batter in 32x, borderline feel that it was supposed to be 32x all along, as some of the oldest textures do show signs of having been downscaled.
I'm not against 3D doors, I just understand why they reverted them to the flat look.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.

1. 32x would break minecrafts low design style that you claim they have. 2. you said you think 3D doors should have never existed

How about you stop twisting my words.
I said 3D doors break the original style of the game. Period. I said they never should have done it because of situations we have right here. Period. I said I think the game would be better in 32x. Period. Don't mix them and assume things.

That is arguing a completely different point. The doors are still technically 3D, as they have a depth, but thanks to face culling, they look like flat textures. There was never any risk of Minecraft being a 2 dimensional game, so that is not a valid argument to make. Minecraft being 3d was A selling point, but not THE selling point that made it popular. But that doesnt mean everything in the game has to have 3D depth to them, otherwise what about flowers and grass and reeds? Why is no one complaining about glass looking flat and one sided?
Why do you keep bringing up flowers and grass? Those aren't even 3D in big budget AAA titles. No one expects them to be 3D. We do expect doors to have depth though, because fences and gates already have depth. So does Glass, btw. The idea that 3D doors breaks Minecraft's style is absurd. Every block in Minecraft, foliage excluded, has depth except for doors, trap doors, and iron bars. Those are the blocks that break style with the rest of the game. Not the 3D doors they had in 14w32.

so true on what you said. They should make a setting for that in the options menu that's defaulted to on. Maybe a menu which allows what blocks to be seen as 3D and whatnot. (E.G. Redstone, Grass, Mushrooms, other 2D appearing blocks, etc)

"Ok, we spent all the effort giving these doors models for no reason. We could either revert them, or quickly put them on the oak and iron door"
*different dev* "WTF that would be too much work, remove them at once, and re-add the bugs you pointlessly fixed!"
"Sorry sire, I will do so immediately"
