Bad news LP fans, the bill S.978 is making footage of video games a FELONY. To make a video you have to get permission from the company of the game, so Minecraft LPs need permission from Java it's self! If this bill is put to affect, No more Machinima, Yogscast, Pbat, Inthelittlewood, Seananners, WoW, Magicka, Totalbiscuit, and any other footage companys of games do not approve, if you disobey you will either have to pay up to $2,500 or go to JAIL.

what the hell? what drives them to do this? these people are the reason these games are so popular and the reason the internet works!
I picture the internet looking a bit like this image:
a post apocalyptic, ruined world where half the reason it's used is gone.
ruined.
this is what I have to say.

I just made a thread of this. Use the search feature first.
While I don't like the possibility of a lack of LP videos, or public performance videos, I still think the law is an ok thing, because it protects people who create content. I think it would be a good law if they just re-think it.
Here is how I see the law. It is basically the same as it was just harsher. Here is a example on Youtube people upload copyrighted stuff all the time(music, shows, whatnot) so it would affect those people the most. It is up to the ones that hold the copyright to decide whether something in allowed to be shown not the government.
Also, some say this will affect other people in other countries are wrong to a degree. As this is a U.S law and not international so those who upload videos from other countries will not be affected. Now if Youtube has to obey this law to it's fullest than it would affect them, but someone else would most likely make a Youtube ripe off. This would also probably end or harm Youtube quite a bit.
Anyways, it is up to the copyright holder to pursue cases of copyright infringement. Right now federal law for copyright infringement can be 5 years in a federal prison and a $5000 fine. Again it is up to the copyright holder to pursue a case of copyright infringement NOT the government. My only problem with this bill is it is a little broad. This is not the end of lets plays unless a game producer or developer doesn't want their game viewed on the internet.
What I don't understand is why the videos are a problem. Are the video game companies complaining? Also, how can they fine people for the videos if it was put up before the law was made?
Thanks for passing this information along. I indeed was unaware of this.
I highly doubt this would pass in regards to game stream/let's play instances. Without getting too technical or political, something like this that ends up preventing us from posting Let's Plays, Reviews and the sort would simply hurt the gaming industry. They most likely see us as free advertising. Just because I watched an entire walk through of a game doesn't mean I'm not buying it. :/
In regards to what the bill is designed for (which is to prevent movies and music from being infringed via sites like you tube) is a noble endeavor. However, to truly curb infringement and what not, they should just pass a bill to take the internet offline entirely. Good luck with that.

If you listened to X's video, the law makes the government responsible for streamed content.
Meaning if you do not have specific permission from the PUBLISHER who owns the copyright then the GOVERNMENT will remove the streamed content and you will be possibly fined and jailed.
This is a GOOD anti piracy law and publishers should adjust there ToS/ToA so players can publish content.

And yes it is a tragedy. IF it will get passed, which is very unlikely.

I did i searched bill S.978 and nothing popped up
I hope your sig and profile picture is just trolling...
There was a topic on the first page with the same name. Don't know why it doesn't show up in search though.
I've found my new sig. And yeah, he'd just have to change the TOS to give us rights to show MC.

Thank you for picking up on that! All Notch has to say is:
"Anybody who wants to can make a video of MineCraft."
Problem solved.
The video said they would need permission from the company and java is a company
No not that company the people who developed the game.
