if you're impatient like me to get diamonds try seed chancecash
if you walk straight forward at spawn you find a village and a huge hill and on top of the hill is a ruined portal and village and ravine with stronghold and mineshaft and 10 different diamonds in the desert village ravine
Ok, so you should usually not get that unlucky with diamonds in Minecraft. And diamonds are not easier to find in desert biomes, diamonds generate in all biomes in the overworld. I also recommend mining at Y = 11.
If you have any more questions I might be able to answer about mining just reply to my comment.
Yes, especially when the new update comes out there will be more structures and biomes. When the new update comes out I will most likely switch to cave mining because of all the new cave biomes and the copper ore. The new bosses in the caves also have me excited to start cave mining and with hopefully better cave generation caves will be more bigger and more common. Bigger caves most likely means more exposed ores. And hopefully easier transportation through caves. But, with mining in caves comes risks. It is easier to die in caves than it is to die in a branch mine. In caves there are dangers such as lava, mobs, and unexpected drops in the terrain. But if you bring the correct equipment it will be fine to mine in caves.
The best way to mine diamonds is to just mine everything. This will guarantee that you never miss any, and because you never miss any this means there's no possible way to improve your take.
The best way to mine diamonds is a simple 1x2 tunnel at y=11, or tunnels spaced at least 6 blocks apart; which will yield about a stack of diamond ore per hour if you average one block mined per second - most players only achieve 1/3-1/2 of this since they space their tunnels too close together with the intent to extract every single ore (for example, a spacing of 2 blocks, or a tunnel every 3rd block, has an efficiency of about 0.006, compared to 0.017 for a spacing of 6 or more - a factor of 2.83 times better; a spacing of 2 is also particularly bad since the same vein can be exposed by two adjacent tunnels):
The results indicate what is expected — that when tunnels are close together they are not efficient because the miner will encounter diamonds which were already removed by the adjacent tunnel(s). A good efficiency is reached at a spacing of around 6 blocks (that is, 6 solid blocks left in-between the tunnels). At this spacing, efficiency is about 0.017, corresponding to 1.7% of blocks removed being a diamond.
[1.7% * 3600 blocks mined per hour = 61.2 diamond ore per hour]
In summary:
The term "efficiency" is often applied to the practice of making every block observable, however this is not usually the objective of a miner.
A more practical definition of "efficiency" describes the percentage of blocks removed that are ores, in other words efficiency = (ores removed / blocks removed).
A significant portion of the efficiency comes from the size of an ore cluster, or the chance of having already mined that ore from an adjacent tunnel.
A good efficiency, for diamonds, is reached at a spacing of 6. Since other ores are usually collected in copious amounts compared to diamonds, this spacing is recommended for every-day mining operations.
Maximum efficiency is reached in the case of infinite spacing between the tunnels. Or in other words, the humble single straight tunnel.
Also, for comparison, I average only about 4 diamond ore per hour spent caving and even competitions where people specifically try to find diamonds as quickly as possible still fall far short of anything that branch-mining can yield (around 30 per person per hour according to this page; my rate is so low in part because I explore and mine absolutely everything underground, averaging over 3,000 ores per play session, of which less than half a percent are diamond).
I CAN'T FIND ANY DIAMONDS
I LITERALLY MINED 2+ HOURS OFF CAMERA DOING BRANCH MINING, STRIP MINING, CAVE MINING, STAIRCASE MINING AND I CAN'T FIND A SINGLE DIAMOND
IM AT Y 10
AND IN THE DESERT BIOME, THE BEST PLACE TO MINE DIAMONDS
This is so not fair

THX MAN
k but whats the best way to mine dimonds
NOOB1234 SUCKS
It's up to you really. I myself prefer branch mining/strip mining. I know some people who like mining in caves more than branch mining.
yea mining in caves is way better more exposed underground structures and ores

No. I usually play on random seeds.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
thanks!
Now you can get unlucky with diamonds but I didn't know you can get this unlucky with diamonds
i usually find a vein of diamonds every 10 minutes
