So I'm on a towny server, and I plan on making a wither farm, spawn, store, etc., but I want to add theme songs from old games (like N64 or playstation for example) to each of the spots, but im not sure what songs to use.
The town is called the Lotus Isles. The spawn point is going to be a giant lily pad with a lotus flower on top of it. There will be the following 10 mini islands surrounding the spawn point that will have teleports to other locations. There will also be bridges connecting each one of the "islands" (its not quite built yet, but ill try to do a rough "sketch")
Heres what I have for songs so far:
Spawn: Dire Dire Docks (SM64), DK Isles, Jungle Japes, Banana Fairy Isle, Princess Zelda song
left Darkroom: Frantic Factory (dk64), Creepy Castle (DK64)
Wither farm: Silent Hill-Promise
Farm: Great Fairys Fountain (Zelda)
Theme Park: Merry-go round (SM64), Shooting Range (Zelda)
Plots/town: Ocarina of Time (Zelda)
Store: Snow Mountain (SM64), shops from DK64 (Candy, Funky, Cranky, Snide)
End: none yet
Free build area: Sarias song/Lost Woods (Zelda)
Mob Farms: none yet
I know that its not very diverse, but I could really think of many other games with a good well known song off the top of my head (I'm trying to go for more childhood nostalgia, not like GTA and such)
Let me know what you guys come up with and what you think would fit in each place.

i'm not sure how your adding songs in (noteblock? or ogg file?) is the server going to be public or private? if its going to be public keep in mind minecraft will only pull a 50mb or less resource pack automatically and it uses ogg sound which does not have great compression this mixed with textures, 3d blocks, etc is very limiting. ive got a personal custom pack w about 5 songs and its 80mb just from the ogg files and about 40mb from 3d block, custom code and custom animated textures. also don't rely on people to go download it either do to laziness or security/other reasons.
You really do need to get permission to reuse or redistribute music or themes made by others, especially large companies and especially Nintendo. If you don't have permission, you can't (legally) play them. "They won't find out" isn't a good defense when it comes to copyright infringement. There are some game studios who openly allow and encourage others to make videos of or use parts of their game elsewhere, perhaps you could use some of those songs instead?
We don't make the rules on this, this is the inevitable consequence of copying other people's work.
If you use songs from other video games without permission and make it public, there's going to be trouble.
I don't agree that someone should get in trouble for this if it is not for profit and as long as the individual credits the rightful artist with a disclaimer, because at this point it falls into a grey area, not someone taking credit for another's IP. However it's not my decision, or yours.
Look, I just came here for suggestions because I was stuck, not to be criticized about it
We're absolutely not trying to criticize or insult you, we're trying to give you helpful advice to keep you and your server out of any potential legal trouble. Although, you seem to have made the songs anyway against our suggestions with your "The server is public and I'm making the songs with noteblocks. I already made the DK Isles and Banana Fairy Island songs" post...

It may not make much of a difference using noteblocks, I don't agree with the law on this one, I think it is draconian if it involves remixes that are not for profit and have disclaimers crediting the original artists for their work. There are more important things the legal system should focus on imo.
but me disagreeing with the law on this particular case doesn't help him (or her)

I'm not making any money off it, and even if I could get in trouble, I very highly doubt any of them would join the server I'm on anyways
I doubt they will find out, but I just came here just so I could get a few ideas.

The server is public and I'm making the songs with noteblocks. I already made the DK Isles and Banana Fairy Island songs and they sound great!
The server being public makes it even more likely that there will be a problem resulting from the music you are using from other people's work.
It makes no difference how great you think the songs are, copyrighted work by others is not yours to distribute without permission.
