Previously in the game, when one was travelling fast, such as by boat, there was a graphical glitch whereby things like distant caves were rendered before nearer things. So one would "see" vast cave networks and suchlike for a second or so before the foreground was rendered, thereby obscuring them.
I'm not getting this anymore. Is this because the game has fixed this issue, or because my computer is better, and rendering all the graphics faster?
I set the render distance to 32 and flew around in creative and I saw nothing like that.
Even when teleporting to completely ungenerated areas, so it took 5 seconds or so until ANYTHING was rendered everything unrendered was completely white and featureless and then rendered properly the first time.
If you're playing in 1.15, then it's most likely no longer happening since they optimized chunk loading a fair bit to solve this very issue.
That's great. This issue was there for a long time, so I'm pleased it's fixed. For newer Minecraft folk, you'd get a glimpse of something like this for a second or so:
Also, are there any ways of x-raying through the ground any more? One used to be able to set some items in a certain way to create an x-ray machine.
I dabbled in a chaotic Mad Max-style server a few years ago. I really liked the idea of creating hidden bases, such as with entrances hidden by a layer of dirt, that would be completely imperceptible from the outside in normal circumstances. However, my bases always got discovered and raided while I was away, surely through x-raying. Is x-raying still an issue?
There's usually at least on x-ray bug in every version of the game, but I haven't really looked around for a 1.15 one, but there will also always be people with xray hacks / resource packs that don't even use these bugs.
I've had this glitch happen a couple of times in 1.15.1, but not nearly as much as previous versions. My computer isn't a top line gaming computer, though, and, as long as I keep my render distance reasonable (under 20), I'm fine.
I did notice that Ultimate X-Ray doesn't work as well in 1.14 and 1.15 as it did in 1.13. I can see masses, but can't tell what they are until I reveal one.

Just testing.

X-Ray is built into the game as a feature of Spectator Mode.
