I use my own modified version of the Lively Default texture pack to brighten things up a bit, because I think many of the default Minecraft textures are a bit drab. Beyond that, you could load up Optifine and try out some different shaders if your PC will handle it.

I've seen some pics of really nice water or glass that looked way better then the vanilla and improved textures, just wondering what you guys are using, the most important thing to me is that the game remain stable...
KUDA, SEUS, Slidurs, Chocapic, Continuum, there's tons of shaders out there and all are stable. Some require a more powerful computer than others (SEUS in particular is rather intensive) but really it just comes down to preference because they all have different styles of lighting, wind, water, and other such stuff. I would recommend just watching showcases of all the shaders and some comparison videos and just choose the one you like the look of the best.
I don't have a high end machine, my graphic card was updated about 5 years ago and cpu even longer...
Here's how things looked before:
Here's how they look with the Seus shader:
just completed an aquarium with my last pic...
With Sues the water looks fantastic and sunsets are a big improvement, unfortunately night looks like crap. The torches and lantern lighting turns really blocky and dark. I had to crank the post processing exposure to get it where I could see decent at night and now day time looks too bright.
Any suggestions on a shader that look good at day and night? I can't play around with this again until tomorrow so any suggestions would save me some time...
Also, please recommend some texture resource packs, one thing I saw that I would really like is glass that is more transparent and seemless, I saw this in a vid and it looked really cool but not sure how they got it. I did some google searching and found 2 seemless glass texture packs, one no longer worked and the second sucked. I'm running v.1.14.4
When installing resources packs where say 3 change glass, how does MC determine which version to keep, does it keep the version at the top or the bottom of the list or does it maybe blend them?
Hey, I use my own texture pack which is mostly "Paper Cut Out" with a few alterations. I think BSL shaders are the best, but Sildurs are very good as well. Both are very customizable, but make sure you start with Optifine and a decent GPU. If your computer sucks, get the "lite" versions or try "lagless" shaders. What you're after in terms of glass is called "connected textures". Certain resource packs support them, you'll want to copy the folder from one of those into your own resource pack to get the same effect. Gotta have optifine first though. You can zoom in when it's installed as well, by pressing "C". I went with the glass from "Monsterley". MC will apply the top resource pack first, anything that isn't there it will look for in the next pack (below) and again, until it has every texture it needs.

I've pretty much given up on shaders as things look so crapping underground and at night...
what would you all recommend for the best underground shader with torches and/or at night walking around?
Probably still BSL or Lagless. Chopapic is nice, as well as Sildurs, but for me there isn't really a good shader for "underground" lighting, almost every one is going to be too dark. A few of them will have "adaptive brightness" or something like that, where your display "adjusts" after a few seconds underground to see better in the dark, or visa versa. I'll usually just turn them all off if I've got a lot of work to do below ground. For me the real difference between BSL and Sildurs is the underwater effect, I couldn't stand the waviness that Sildurs has and much prefer how BSL and other shaders keep straight lines straight. You'll certainly have to experiment with your system and figure out what you can run, I would start with BSL and play with the settings till you get something to run smoothly. If BSL won't, try Lagless.

hmm, that kinda sucks if you have to keep changing settings in a game each time you change environments, if we could do it quickly and seamlessly then maybe, but for me every time I change a shader, MC exits and reloads the game...
For texture pack you could try ModernArch. They recommend SEUS though, but the texture look sweet. The 128x128 and 256x256 textures you can get for free. https://packminecraft.com/resource-packs
Depending on your preferences, Sphax is a great resource pack. Usually one of the quickest packs that gets updated to new MC versions. They even have a Xmas version that I'm using currently. And the last time I tried a shader, they worked just fine together.
Hi,
New to MC, was wondering what you all recommend to improve the overall looks of MC? post pics if possible pls...

What exactly do you mean, "improve"?

Either texturepacks/resourcepacks or Shaderpacks. Check here for some resourcepacks (cartoony, realistic, rustic, and so on).

I'm about to try this out:
but would like to get feedback from users as to the stuff they like...
Yeah, that would be shaders.
If your computer is powerful enough then go ahead and install shaders. If not then yea.
recommendations? which are most stable?
No idea. I don't use them.
I don't think it matters which shaders are the most stable, you just need a powerful computer.

Try either sildur or chocapic.
will give em a try thanks...
