My problem is that while I was playing minecraft normally my computer crashed and now my saved world doesn't apper on my world list. If you can help me with this problem I would appreciated very much. :biggrin.gif:
This was my problem but I fixed it by deleting the level.dat and then renaming the level.dat_old to level.dat This is what I did to solve my problem if any of you have the same problem try what I did.
Remeber to make a back-up before you do this. Just in case it doesn't work :wink.gif:
I updated the information on the first few posts and will do so again shortly.
Summary of changes: please, please, please, name the world you give me your username. I have a zillion files in my downloads folder called world1.zip. Also, I am short on bandwidth, so I will add instructions on how to merge a world with another world. YOU SHOULD ONLY DO THIS IF I TELL YOU TO, AND YOU HAVE TO DO THIS. the premise is that I only fix the broken part, and send just that part back. you copy the fixed part into the existing world, and it overwrites the broken part on your end. worlds I return like this will not work on their own.
Fixed rodabon's save. I think.
starting on cookingfat's. this should be a short one.
Yah, I know it doesn't affect the data at all, it's just anoying. What I'm asking is how I could fix that, because I have a feeling that I'm going to be seeing that problem alot.
off the top of my head, I can't think of how to do it.
i had this world that i crashes on startup everytime, after an update, i was using some mods before the update, i woul appreciated a lot if you could fix it.
Can't do anything about that. Mods do that. You knew the risks when you installed it. Contact the modder, there is a possibility that he has an uninstall utility. This is beyond MCedit. The problem is that there are blocks that the game does not recognize. When the game loads them, it crashes. I could do an exhaustive removal of 'future blocks' with mcedit but it would take days.
It's possible that the mods have been released for the current version, try that.
Hi Apocalypse_R, one of my worlds has been corrupted and I'm now unable to play it after loading for more than about ten - twenty seconds. I recently put down a bunch of "snow layers" using invedit, which might have something to do with the problem, but I've no idea how these things work. Anything you or anyone else can do to help would be much appreciated!
I think I fixed it. I found an area where if you stayed there it would consistently crash. I deleted some unmodified areas around it and the crash seems to have gone away. I hung around for a minute or two until it stopped loading and it didn't crash again.
I had dug and dug and dug for hours and got a lot of good stuff, packed it all away and then the game froze. When I started it again everything in the world was back to normal except all the stuff I had with me was still with me. All my goodies stashed away in my hideout was covered over again as if i had just started the map anew. Any ideas?! I would hate to think I just wasted all that time for nothing...
here's a link to the zip file. I compressed a couple of them cause I was uncertain which one to do. I noticed there was a file with "locked" in there(?)
Question - I tried to go to "http://mc.42nex.us" to get my world's seed so I could share. This map I'm trying to get the seed of, is a server map (SMP), and I'm getting this error from the site
The level.dat you uploaded appears to be malformed. Please try another.
Should I be worried? Does this mean my world is corrupted somehow? My server's map started out as a beta 1.2 map, and when the new save format was introduced I had to convert it, so I do have a level.dat_old and a regular level.dat.
well, maybe. can't say for sure without actually looking at it. If you follow the instructions for uploading metadata, i'll take a look. it could be for a number of reasons, but if the world is showing up in the list, it's probably OK. if it does disappear, immediately back up everything and upload it and I'll take a lookie lookie.
Hey Apocolypse_R.. Im having the same problem as Decoder. I made a very sweet map and now its corrupt and wont show up on my minecraft game. But i can still find it in .minecraft folder.
If this helps http://www.mediafire.com/?i3ujvdzlb6ompnj
Please help if i dont get my map back ill probably be very to lazy to play again hahaha
Thank you :smile.gif:
You uploaded the wrong file. In any case, I would need more than just the metadata to fix it. it would be easier to do it yourself. follow the instructions in my second post (on the first page) on how to restore backed up metadata.
session.lock is a file which can be safely deleted. it doesn't store any information about the world.
how do you redo nether in mcedit? crashes anytime I try to enter nether. and in mcedit its all blank.
if you need to delete the whole thing, don't bother using mcedit. just open the save folder. inside the folder, there should be a folder called DIM-1 or something like that. this folder contains the map data for the nether. delete the folder to delete the nether.
I'm not seeing anything wrong with it. Unfortunately, this is the sort of problem I can't fix - the kind I can't find. Are you sure it wasn't just a client bug or something that got patched?
There are some wonky fences in a few places, but nothing that made my client crash.
This is my world I have spent by far the most time on and I suddenly crashed. It does not show up in the game but the files are all still there. Thanks in advance!
I can't fix it with the metadata it has. Both the automatic backup and the original copy are broken. If you have a backup, follow the instructions in my second post (on the first page) to restore the metadata from it into the old one. Alternatively, if you created it since the 1.3 map format update and you created it with a specific map seed, you can create it again and use the same seed. You might end up with a different spawn though, but that isn't really important
WHEW. Finally caught up, I think. Man i'm pooped, ive done like 10 map examinations in like 2 hours
Again, sorry for posting like 10 times in a row. I figured that it would be better and more organized to do separate posts than it would've been to do one single giga-post with every solution.
edit - for my own reference, this was the last time i updated the fix count in the op.
Basically you cant move due to the extreme lag from it. I was told to post it here and ow I have. If you can help in any way I would very much appreciate it and if i can ever repay you let me know.
If it can't be fixed It's alright, I'll start again. I'd RATHER not but oh well!
Sorry if i haven't posted enough info or anything. Just tell me what I did wrong if I did anything wrong. I havent slept in about 2 days so im a little out of it!
I looked at my save file in an editor, WELL had a friend look. and yeah the one who i think used an editor MUST of. He made the hole so much bigger than I originally made it. He also got rid of a fair amount of my castle in the sky and made it bigger. He said he sent me the save file he was keeping for himself and accidentally deleted mine.
ANYWAY. I spent 31 days on that hole and castle and they were pretty big for a non editing tool play time. 4-8 hours a day for 31 days.
Honestly I don't think i'll be upset if it cant be saved.
Also if you have to get rid of anything I don't mind. If it can't be saved thanks for trying!
First off this is really fantastic that you give your time and skill to help others with this, so earned.
I have had an issue with my favorite map recently. Before the 1.3 update i was building far away from my main area, and after saving and coming back to it after a few days, the area had reverted back to exactly how it was *before* i began building. It was about 4x4 chunks, because there was still some of what i built left, but the coal i mined was back, the water pool i filled in was back and such.
I dealt with it and rebuilt, but now after the 1.3 update, going back to my main area from my lodge at the lake, ive found another spot where a chunk in the minecart transit tunnel I dug out, has reverted to a state before i dug it out so while trying to travel to my tower to get wool, ran into a solid wall.
This is upsetting and I would like you to analyze my save found Here. Also if you have any advice about preventing /treating this I would be most grateful.

I wasn't able to isolate exactly what the problem was, but I fixed it anyway with my typical approach of 'delete everything'. much of the surrounding terrain was deleted and regenerated, and I did my best to avoid hitting stuff but I accidentally clipped off the corner of that big stone thing. I fixed it as best I could with mcedit.
I don't think I broke anything else, and the world is now much more playable. The surrounding terrain which was deleted will regenerate normally when you go close to it.

Good luck!
Fixed one by tlidnr, currently working on one by robadon.
tlidnr's was fixed to the best of my ability (but it was pretty bad)
edit - oh dear god robadon's is a pre-1.3 (that means a million little files) 50MB world. ugh copying this is going to take forever

danjnk2.rar
you have 7zip, so I assume you can open rars. if you can't, get winrar.

Soz, but this is probably unrecoverable. If it's that big of a deal, just hack the stuff back with invedit or mcedit.

I can't fix maps corrupted by mods. if you can, reinstall the mod.
edit - the tool I am working on will have this functionality. Stay tuned.
