Hello everyone. I'm looking to start work on a village in my survival world, themed with elven-style buildings. I've never used this style before, and nothing I've found seems straight forward as far as giving tips or general styles go. Any help is greatly appreciated!
The only guide I've ever heard of is from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. It's not really going to translate well to blocky Minecraft, because it's all about graceful spires and sweeping curves and generally employs abilities, concepts, and tactics not at all represented in Minecraft. Stark corners are mostly unheard of.
Elves adore natural scenery. Manicured lawns and flowerboxes are generally a bit of a no-no, but this is largely because of their highly-magical nature allowing them to do stuff magically with the plants to shape them to the elven will (again, graceful curves and stuff). Anything that results in the forced mangling of a natural construct (ie, tree) is hugely verboten.
Stone and brick, definite no. They'll use them if they absolutely have to, but they much prefer wood, grasses/plants, and mushrooms. They consider worked material to be quite tacky, not exactly offensive but just "yuck".
Gems and valuables (metals, ores, etc) are hidden away or stored discretely, a necessary evil that should never impinge upon the natural beauty of one's holdings. Exceptions to this would be crystalline structures, but it's still considered very tacky to flaunt your wealth.
Gardens and open greenspace is generally what impresses an elf.
DuhDerp's description fits well for AD&D high elves (less so for forest elves and not so well for Drow), but Tolkein's elevs of Mirkwood (from The Hobbit) have a dwelling at least partly underground…
Pick another author and the elves will likely show differences from either of the above examples.

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.

To what version of elves are you refering?
