Some of the stuff that I miss are super large biomes. And all you could do with terrain numbers. The stuff they have now is cool and all. but i think the should have added to the old options not replace them.
They didn't replace the Custom World Generator with Buffet Worlds. They just blocked it off so that they can figure out how to translate WorldPainter/WorldEdit into vanilla Minecraft. The new CWG will no longer be a long list of slider bars and text fields to type numbers into, instead it will be an interactive graphical display of the world with contextualized options popped up based on whatever part of the world you clicked on. It will have rotational ability, allowing you to see the world from different angles. It will probably have a zoom feature, letting you work with the world on both a macro level (ie, biomes) as well as a more specific level (cave generation, options for specific biomes, etc.)
An absolute crapton of new options will be added, and it will likely be the case that the old ones get reorganized. Whatever the case, don't expect to get the same level of control as before.

I've gotten something of the same sort of impression, although I would abstract it as:
Prettier (and almost certainly more resource expensive) interface, but less actual functionality.
Adding a GUI CWG as an alternative to the more abstract (but more powerful) text controls would have been a far better option…

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.

They said they will eventually add them back, except better. Just be patient.
