We've all seen them. The famous posts that all look like:
"Minecraft is dying" "Nobody plays it anymore" "Mojang is greedy" "Fortnite is gaining popularity and Minecraft is losing popularity"
This will probably the most controversial post on the forum, but I feel people need to see this.
Please don't blast in the comments, "Minecraft is dying!". That won't help. Keep your own opinions.
Minecraft is not dying. It has gained 50 million sales in the past few years (excluding the very recent 2019). It has about 150 milion sales across all platforms. Sure, multiplayer is not what it used to be. Minecraft's YouTube community has switched to Fortnite, but miraculously, it's not dead. Mojang has been working harder than ever to bring us good updates. 1.13 was great, and now they are working on the (controversial) 1.14 update. Sure 1.9 wasn't what a lot of people wanted, but a lot of people liked 1.9.
My point is, it's not dying. There are millions who still love it and play it. I love Minecraft, and while nostalgia hits me a lot, I still love it and still play it.
Good day, everyone. If you comment, keep your opinions suttle and don't start an argument.
I'm honestly confused as to where you are seeing all of these posts. Generally we close new "Minecraft is dying" threads and redirect them to one large thread that is in this section (or the Recent Update and Snapshots section, can't remember which) because they are redundant. But I don't really see any recent posts about the subject in general, other than this one saying that the posts need to stop.

In the media, a lot of people hate on Minecraft and push the immature 8-year-old stereotype. Then people go out and say that Minecraft is losing popularity. In real life, a lot of people I know play Minecraft, and I'm sure with Microsoft taking over Minecraft is gaining popularity... except for the haters on Youtube, In that case, don't listen to them. However, your approach to this whole issue should not be "Minecraft is Dying posts NEED TO STOP" it should be "Minecraft is not losing popularity" or "Is Minecraft losing popularity?". And, yes, I do agree that Minecraft is doing fine.

I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
Minecraft is not dying, the huge hype of it has just slowed (one reason being everyone has heard about it, ask someone back in 2010 if they had heard of minecraft and I'd bet money they hadn't) and a lot of the spotlight has moved to yet another game (fortnite for example). Welcome to the world of gaming. These "big youtubers" are the same reason minecraft is stereotypically looked at as a childs game now because of their ginormous fan base of young teens and pre teens that prosperously brought in an insane amount of players from around 2013 to present. And watch, in 2-3 years fortnite will no longer be the "cool game" . Ask me how I know? Well I started playing when Minecraft classic (bet you've never heard of it) was being updated and was the newest version. I've seen the how the game has changed and grown and let me tell you its far from "dying"

Minecraft is not dying by any means, noooo.
I just feel like Minecraft has gotten so big that it has faded into the background of our gaming culture.
That is, Minecraft sort of feels like it has become furniture that's always been there rather than an active topic that's on the cutting edge of gaming.
That furniture isn't going anywhere and certainly isn't being thrown out (it still receives makeovers every now and again) but I just don't feel like the furniture has the center of attention anymore.
The idea of the people that say Minecraft is dead is confuse.
I started playing Minecraft in the final of Alpha, and the game was rare, and he wasn't the best game, but I think the new versions are great, and Minecraft is still growing.
Minecraft is still growing and getting updated the people just doesn't care about updates they are just playing on 1.7.10 to get better at pvp i bet they didn't even checked the 1.13 or latest snapshots
Mojang has been working harder than ever to bring us good updates. 1.13 was great, and now they are working on the (controversial) 1.14 update. Sure 1.9 wasn't what a lot of people wanted, but a lot of people liked 1.9.
Threads shouldn't be closed just because they criticize the game. Minecraft Forums is a forum for talking about Minecraft; people should be able to say their opinions about the game. Saying "Mojang is greedy", discussing how you feel the game is becoming worse in some way, or talking about how you dislike an update doesn't have to do with whether or not the number of people playing the game is dropping, and shouldn't be lumped into the same thread dedicated to whether or not the game is dying or not.
While a few threads recently were just anger at Mojang and maybe not constructive (those threads got locked), it isn't going too far to dislike an update, some changes, or aspects of how multiplayer currently is.

Minecraft isn't dead, but these forums are less active than they used to be.
Man oh man, does that hit me where it hurts. The 360 section used to flourish with people who I'd have wanting to play in my map series, then it got to where I was getting one maybe weekly, then maybe once a month, then I canceled my Gold membership because I didn't play any other online games.
Those who play it avidly know it is not dying, we are keeping it alive by playing it so much, and feel no need to tell people it's not dying, lol, actions speak louder than words. The types of people who seem to get fed up and bored with the game are the types who run out of ideas quickly and who play Minecraft by the book. Gotta do this, then do that leading to this, and the other... etc, cannot think outside of the box (or block, haha), limited by lack of imagination. Cos Minecraft is a game that meets you halfway, you have to put effort in to get the most reward, and some players (in my opinion, and experience of 8 years playing) want to take the quick fix / easy option every time, minimum effort, maximum gain. That quickly gets old. Well, just some of my own thoughts
Meh these ppl claiming mc is dying always pop up when a new update comes.Wonder why? It's obviously because everyone likes the versions they were newbies at(due to mainly nostalgia)cuz from each update mc changes so much it doesn't feel like the same game anymore. It doesn't rly lose popularity, only players from older versions, but it gains more in the end.
I feel like this is a strawman argument, as nobody would unironically say that Minecraft is dying, let alone dead. Servers are filled, people are still buying the game at a high pace, development on all platforms is as active as ever. I think anyone you see saying Minecraft is dying is just hating on a thing because it is popular. There are lots of issues with the game and the community, but dying or fading into obscurity are not one of them.
See, Minecraft 'dying' at this stage is very natural. The game has been around for around 10 years, people have ultimately moved on. Remember how you and your friends would play back in 2012 and it seemed like it would never stop being popular? Those days are long done. Minecraft being a 'top seller' for news has been a long gone thing from the past.
But does that mean the game is forgotten? Nope, not at all. The game fostered a new generation of PC gaming and united a large number of people on a common platform when they would be otherwise doing something else. Remember how Doom was a cultural phenomenon in the early 90s? This is exactly that, strong modding community and all. But Minecraft, as a fad is long gone. While alot of kids have played it, and it will be looked at as a very significant thing of the 2000s - 2010s, It is not the most 'hot' thing as of now.
The fate Minecraft has in the end is not a bad one. It's one thing to die down as a fad, but it's another to live on in the hearts of a generation. Minecraft will forever be looked as the emergence of a new Genre of games.
Its not dying, but it's fading to smaller population. Many of the places i go to there more bots pretending to be players than actual players on the server. Kinda creepy weird.
Minecraft is far from dead - that much is clear, but the community has changed and I think that change has the "old guard" feeling left behind, myself included. There's no doubt that this site is past its glory days and the nostalgia for what it used to be hits hard.
Personally I've been in the very early phases of building an adventure map for three years on and off now and it's hard to find the motivation to finish it considering the state of the maps forum as compared to five years ago. I remember a time when there were thousands of active members on that forum alone, if you look now about half the active threads are from before 2015 and there's under 100 viewers at any time.
The only map I've actually released was four years ago now and it ended up with nearly 5000 downloads despite being terrible. I loved every second of it and watching the downloads roll in was the most amazing feeling. With the forum the way it is now it seems that any map I release won't be half as successful even though it's bound to be orders of magnitude better and I'm not sure I can pour myself into something just to watch it fail. I poured a lot of effort into that map at the beginning but looming dread eventually lead to burn out and I haven't touched it in a year at least. I'm not sure I'll ever finish it.
I think the feeling is similar on most servers, they're very different than they used to be and the things that old timers used to love aren't around anymore.
Minecraft is a unique game, it's been consistently growing for eight years, it's crazy to expect it to stay exactly the same. I think that's where a lot of these threads have been coming from, the game is different now and the community has changed.
The game will continue but it's starting to look like communities like this will fizzle out eventually.

Yes there is a thread called "Is Minecraft Dying...?" and people are being redirected there, since it's being repeated a lot.
