I bought my Minecraft account in October of 2011 when Beta 1.8 was the latest version.
I have profiles in my launcher for several Beta versions and the last minor update of each major release.
I also have over 750 saved world folders.
And, of course, I still play.
I've even played the PC version of BedRock.

I was first introduced to Minecraft in late 2013, not long after 1.7 released. I finally got MCPE in August 2014, a month after infinite worlds were introduced, and, well, here it is and here I am.
Been following updates for both Pocket (now Bedrock) and Java, still remember how many features 1.8 had, and how happy I was when the Nether was added to PE.
As mentioned, only 7 months till MCJE is 10 years old, and both the full release and PE are 7 now. Fun times.
I knew of Minecraft's zeroth birthday through friends at the time and a YouTube series I watched that started when it came out. It's been a while!
However, I only started playing in mid-to-late March 2013, at which point 1.5.2 (had) just came out. IMO, it was the best version of the game before 1.12, which I now consider my favourite past version I've actually played. I barely played 1.6, 1.7, and 1.8.0 and completely skipped all versions from 1.8.01+ to 1.11.0, starting to play again in 1.11.2(?) just before 1.12 came out. 1.13 and 1.14 are looking much better IMO than those odd ones from 1.6 through 1.9, I feel that the devs started getting more inspired after they changed the combat, and I've liked the stuff added from 1.10 onwards much more.
On November 18th, 2011 (at least according to the wiki), Minecraft was fully released.
I was
a cringey kidavid player at that time. It's been seven years nowI missed a chunk of this game's life when it got too popular for my tastes and I got bored of it but I've come back after like two or three years.
Remember when apples were a rare item? I do.
It's kind of weird to also think that Beta will be 8 years old come December. (and, ya know, by May 2019 the game will have been 10 years old)

I started to play Minecraft today, but 8 years ago.
I remember when the Minecon 2011 was finished, and reacted to the 'new' 1.0.
Was a very good version.
