I'm on the best hardcore mode survival bow only run of my life and just found 3 diamond veins in 30 minutes, and what happens? I decide to sleep in my bed in my own house, only to wake up inside of a wall and suffocate to death. All of my items disappear into the walls never to be seen again. This is not okay. I am not okay with this.
I was under the impression that one would get "Your home bed was missing or obstructed" if no acceptable spawn space could be found…
That is if you die iirc.
And yes this can be a minorly annoying issue but the solution is to keep a 1 block space around the bed, it isn't really that hard to avoid.

How many blocks up do you build your roofs? I've never ever seen this happen.. though there is a "body phasing off bed" glitch in most caves where I only have two blocks of space..
I tend to build my houses with three blocks interior height and well lit to keep oh, Endermen from spawning in my house. Bedrooms tend to be set up with at least one block space at the foot and to one side; sometimes on the wall, sometimes centered in the room with a "night stand" always beside it. So I have plenty of open space when I "get up" in the morning. Something like this may help you avoid that glitch in the future- like I said, I didn't even know about it.
Sucks to hear about your diamonds... I'm a looser and tend to save zipped backups of my hardcore worlds periodically as to avoid such loss. xD;;
I once experienced the suffocating in the bed thing. It was when I slept in a bed that I had placed in a temporary house while traveling and the bed was positioned with the head of it within an alcove that was 2 blocks high and right up against a stone wall with terrain behind it.
But, otherwise, when placing beds in rooms with 3 or more block ceiling height or when leaving space between wall and head of bed I have not experienced the suffocating thing.

Gregor, that looks rather nice, actually. My guess as to the reason for the problem is that the bed has no even level next to it. Maybe try placing another row of solid wood to the side closest to the angle you took the screenshot? It may fix it. *crosses fingers*
If I had to guess, when it attempted to spawn you next to the bed, you had no floor adjacent to the bed at the proper level, so it spawned you on top of the bed (or on top of the block at the end of the bed), with your head in the ceiling. I would recommend always having beds in a 3-high space, to reduce the chances of ceiling suffocations.
Or, if you like the look of the low ceiling you can lower it with slabs, that way even if you end up stuck in the ceiling you won't suffocate (as long as you don't put two slabs in the same block.)

I just wanted to get comfy (。•́︿•̀。)
THX for the picture.
Cozy looking…
…and seems (at first glance) like it ought to have worked. Will need to keep this effect in mind….
[It does seem like the check for the necessary space to get out of bed ought to be done before the game lets the player into the bed. ]

Just testing.
i would also love this to be fixed.

The bed only has a block and a half gap. You should have at lease 2 blocks gap, and face the bed out, not to its side, it will help ALOT.
