Neither fill from the left (when picking up items) nor fill from the right (shift-click from cehst etc) make any inherent 'sense' that I can see.
Arguments could be made either way for each case, but decisions were made when the game was coded and that's what we've got…
(I'm a bit surprised, now that I actually think about it, that they aren't both load from left or both load from right… but the issue has been of little enough import that I'd never paid it conscious attention.)

I don't know, load from left makes more sense because the 1234 slots are closer to the WASD keys than the others. So you can access your shift-clicked items faster.
Any reasons on why load from right would make sense?

so that when you're shift-clicking your building materials, it's easily distinguished from your normal tools.
Whenever one shift-clicks an item from a container into the hotbar, the item appears in the last available slot instead of the first?
Why? This doesn't make sense. Shouldn't it be placed in the first available slot?

You can hold down a number hey while shift clicking to put it in that slot. Ex: Holding 4 will put it in the 4th slot
Yeah I'm aware of that. That's not the question I'm asking.
