As you all know.. Notch sold Minecraft to Microsoft and ever since that happened, Minecraft has been spiraling down. As a person playing over 5 years now, I decided to retire because the game is simply not interesting. Here’s reasons why I left and most players left and simple solutions to fix it
- The 1.9 combat update
from the king of PvP to now, the pleb on the field. The 1.9 mechanics simply suck and I know my old school pvpers agree with me on this, I don’t know the full mechanics because I don’t like to pvp anymore but pvp isn’t fun no more.. it’s really just down annoying and stupid
Solution: return to old 1.8 mechanics
-Connectivity ( even with good WiFi )
from lag to losing connection frequently, this is the issue I have been facing recently. Mojang really needs to fix Minecraft connectivity issues and get rid of the 8 second wait feature. ( someone explain to me that if you can)
- microtransactions ( excluding java edition )
self explanatory... from paying for skins, servers and even Minecraft story mode... microtransactions is preventing the freedom that java players has.. the fun of Minecraft was looking at people’s skins or experience new resource packs ( texture packs) and they were all free and that helped strengthen the Minecraft community to work together
In my opinion minecraft isn't ruined at all. I loved every update they released up to this day. I am from the post 1.7 generation though, which according to everybody on this forum is something like: The "Noob generation". I joined minecraft in 1.8.7 and I remember the first time that I set foot in the eternal beauty of this modular world
The 1.9 update was the first major update that I encountered, and I wasn't disappointed at all, especially with the addition of the elytra (or was that 1.10?) and the end cities and the shulkers. I never really enjoyed murdering people, so I didn't really care about the new combat system. I especially loved to build beautiful structures and my building skills improved as I kept playing. The addition of concrete in 1.12 was really amazing, because we now had flat coloured blocks, which is something I always wanted to have. The new animals (llama, parrot and polar bear) also excited me, because it gave me an impulse to explore (I'm not one of those who just locates everything using amidst, what's the fun in that!?), because I wanted to find all these animals for myself and I wanted to have all of them at my base.
I could be rambling on forever about how much I love the game and how much I love all the content that they added, but it wouldn't make my point any more solid. I don't think minecraft is ruined. I still love it as much as when I started.
But then again: That's just the opinion from the "1.8 noob generation".
About the connectivity: I've never had any troubles with that. I have decent wifi on my laptop and I have quite a reliable provider. I usually have a good connection with servers. It's only when I play on servers from across the ocean that I start to notice some drops.
also: I found an option in the options.txt file in the minecraft folder called: enableWeakAttacks, which is supposed to disable the weapon cooldown.
The first one can easily be solved with commands or plugins; I imagine the reason why so many complain is because they want a no-cheats/commands way to disable it (for example, you need to use a command to give yourself a sword with no cooldown instead of just starting a no-cheats Survival world and crafting them as usual), and as far as PvP is concerned it has little effect on 1vs1 since both players have to deal with it; if you keep losing it is because you are not timing your attacks, which is pretty easy (I've always timed my attacks to damage immunity, which lasts nearly as long; add reaction time and there is no difference - note that I do not do PvP but 1vs1 PvE is not much different. The only thing I don't like is the fact that you can't quickly hit more than one mob in succession but sweep attacks and Sweeping Edge lets you damage multiple mobs at once, and bows, which always had to be charged (well, after Beta, I started in 1.5.1) work just as well as before against ranged mobs).
The second issue is likely either on your or the server's end or anywhere in between but not due to an issue with the game itself; maybe they could increase the timeout or make in configurable but if it times out for more than a few seconds you'll likely have issues when reconnecting (sudden teleports, insta-death, etc). Admittedly, I've never played multiplayer but have seen others play it without constantly having the issues you describe, and when they did have lag others players said they had it too and it was obviously due to an overloaded server and/or insufficient connection to it this is particularly an issue when somebody hosts a server on their own computer).
As for the last, non-Java versions have always had DLC, particularly Console versions, which forbid any non-official form of modding (including changing textures or skins) since the console manufacturers (only one of which is Microsoft) forbid you from modifying the consoles themselves. You can also still make your own content for the Pocket and Windows 10 Editions - and with all the restrictions these editions have they will likely never displace the original Java version, which (I believe) Microsoft promised to never interfere with - and has not. What about the far greater sales of other editions? They have always been far more popular, long before Microsoft came into play in 2014:
In fact, Pocket Edition was the most purchased version of Minecraft in 2012, according to numbers released by Mojang last week. Minecraft: Pocket Edition sold over 39.1% of units, or 5,899,727 copies total. This was ahead of Minecraft for Mac/PC, at 27.7%, and the Xbox 360 edition, at 33.2%…
The difference in popularity was even more dramatic on Christmas, where Pocket Edition outsold the Xbox 360 edition by a factor of almost three to one. The PC/Mac version was outsold by four to one [amounting to a mere 15.6% of all sales, which is more or less how things have been since].
I was part of the 1.4.5 time period, but jumped to mods very early on like the tekkit lite time of mods. So my vanilla/very basic of mods survival experiences were actually vanilla. As each snapshot comes around, I move to it to experiment like all do and jump back to mods if I ever feel like it (which is most of the time obviously).
1.9 for axe = overpowered (even though all axes are literally the same damage, so only durability upgrading is annoying benefits in my opinion)
1.9 for sword = sweep attack for 3x3 attack coverage (at least that's the impression I get)
1.9 shield = ok defence but only about 50% or less better than sword blocking which not many people even used sword blocking obviously
1.9 hoe (before it was nerfed) best in the game for 1 hit each. XD
Each vanilla/standard game update was decent, from 1.5 for good redstone & storage benefits, to 1.6 which was unsure about but didn't really get into it all that much, to 1.7 which I had biome unease at first but gotten used to. 1.8 was ok but nothing I cared for unless you count the world gen feature, the ocean monument and other things I don't even remember or even realise were 1.8 related that's how much I remember 1.8 personally, 1.9 I too was disappointed but then understood the benefits to a shield blocking and particularly timed attacks mechanic. I find it annoying but after understanding it better, its nothing to me now. 1.10 was small and nice but didn't really bother me, 1.11 was the same, nice and small. 1.12 was the best update for me personally, the benefits of 1.11 with the mansion (I think it was or was that 1.10??) were good even though never found one same with the ocean monument unless I seed change which I can't be bothered to, but 1.12's recipe system was good if I wanted to use it, it doesn't even do anything besides be an ingame recipe wiki/system, that's it, its not even needed/doesn't even effect the game, you never have to use it at all, but people complained. It can be ignored if you want it to, its an additional feature (from the modding side of things, the crafting bench mk3 mod tells you what components you have can make these things sort of idea exists, it did nothing but tell you what you could make and you click and it crafts, that's it) I find the learn/research what components do what sort of logic like as if you were researching thaumcraft magic research but for recipes I think is really cool, the 1.12 recipe system as an optional feature I found amazing when I found out about it, the narrator is a bit useless yes, the different block changes for terracotta is interesting but I rarely build with them so it didn't bother me, commands are commands no matter the version so those that use them do. I found the parrots to be not that interesting, but eh, didn't bother me. Most other features I don't completely remember but anyways.
Don't pick on the mods parts I stated because I mentioned them, I just needed a different perspective to state, not that mods do things better than vanilla, it depends on player preference of what they do with the game. Just for a perspective example, this is the only reason I mentioned them. Since I know this is a vanilla centred topic right here.
I have looked back on older versions on the minecraft.gamepedia wiki and see why people think the older versions were good for the Friday updates, or more useful ideas. I can see why from Alpha to Releases how good it was plentiful of ideas. Besides the hunger system, never liked it but I get used to it even from starting at release 1.4.5.
The marketplace and otherwise I do find a bit awkward but I don't know a lot about it so I'm not going to say anything on it too much. The donating for mods (map makers not sure if that's a thing for donating) is simple, but the marketplace I find to be like a more formatted approach to that formula of donating and its a bit odd to me why they did it but I don't know a lot about it so I can't say for sure.
I have played the console version (XB360&XBOne) and enjoyed the texture packs/skins but I don't find them doing anything for me. I never got into the minigames since I left console versions before they added them. I haven't touched the console version since probably 2 years or more so if that says anything. You can tell why I went for mods for then obviously.
The game I assume is going the way Mojang intends it, not sure how much MS are involved besides the marketplace model, the 'edition' possibility increases, the HoloLens and other ideas. That's more what I see MS have done with the game, not so much the updates for Java. Other console version more so I'd say yes they have. Hence XB360 got Minecraft first out of all other consoles at the time. They had wanted the game for a while now.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
