I might get a new computer soon so I need to be able to transfer the file to the new computer.
Can anyone suggest the best tutorial for this?
For most people who want a "basic" private server, it's best to either using the Mojang "Realms" service, or pay for a hosted server from any of the hundreds of websites that offer those.
Setting up your own machine requires some technical ability (e.g. port forwarding), decent hardware, a reasonably fast and reliable incoming internet connection (most home services are really only good at downloading; not so much uploading). You can do it if you like, of course; but if you're unsure how to copy a file, you might have problems.
Okay i have made several servers here is what you do you want to make a private server for your friends so use forge this will give you lots of options and i am assuming that you trust them if this is the case:
1) go to minecraft.net/download and download the server
2) Put the server in a empty folder open notepad and the type the following JAVA <name of the jar file .jar>
3) install forge using the same thing you do to install on your pc and then do server and select dirictory
If you want spigot let me know and il give you all the info that you need
