I was wondering what is the best organization method for sorting in chests. In my survival world I'm making a chest room to sort my things. I don't mean like a red stone sorting system. I mean like sorting by color or catagory and things like that. If you have an efficient method that you use, please share it.
- Wood and related (planks, fences, ladders, workbenches, wood doors, etc.)
- Enchanted books
- Potions
- Other commodities (music discs, saddles, nametags, horse armour, etc.)
But to be honest sometimes I mix them up a bit if I want to save space, or sometimes I need to split them in more details if I have lots of stuff. Organization in the game should be flexible to suit your needs I think.

I have the habit of classifying things approximately as:
- Food ready to eat (cooked meat, fruits, veggies, cakes, etc.)
- Food uncooked and related (raw meat, sugar, eggs, melon seeds, etc.)
- Tools, weapons, armour (including buckets, shears, torches, fishing rods, flint and steel, etc.)
- Gems and rare items (diamonds, emeralds, nether stars, dragon egg, etc.)
- Ores & cie (iron, gold, coal, redstone, lapiz, etc.)
- Hostile drops (bones, zombie flesh, string, ender pearls, blaze rods, etc.)
- Passive drops (feathers, leather, white wool, rabbit feet, etc.)
- Nature (reeds, flowers, saplings, etc.)
- Cobble
- Stone and related (stones, stone bricks, stone walls, chiselled stone, mossy stones, etc.)
- Land blocks (grass, dirt, sand, gravel, red sand, etc.)
- Other building blocks (iron doors, furnaces, anvils, iron bars, glass, sandstones, etc.)
- Decorative (paintings, item frames, flower pots, coloured wools, dyes, etc.)
- Redstone-ish (rails, redstone torches, pressure plates, pistons, etc.)
- Logs
- Wood and related (planks, fences, ladders, workbenches, wood doors, etc.)

I make a bigchest for every block and item in the game, with item frames on them.
