Showing it off at the start instead of the new features as because not only is it like the biggest feature they added, it is showing how they care about the community (and if you think they are doing it for money, groups they worked with for the Marketplace launch line up said they did it because they genuinely cared about the community).
You are truly naive. Who the heck believes that Microsoft did this for the good of the community, no such thing would ever happens. They only did this for the money.
Biggest issue, Correct me if I'm wrong, Seems to be the lack of a MacOS or Win 7 equivalent to the Win10 edition, This alienates a good portion of the PC user base to be stuck with Java.
I don't understand why it was decided the PC version of Pocket Edition would remain exclusive to a single operating system, When the console editions of Minecraft are even on Sony platforms, But this might just be temporary as a Multi-platform version could be in works behind the scenes.

IIRC, it's because Win 10 has mobile elements and/or compatibility incorporated inside the OS. As for Sony platforms, it turns out Sony said no to having the new Minecraft in the PS4. I highly doubt there's another Multi-platform coming in. Chances are, we would have heard of it by now. The various computer OS' can already play with one another, and it wouldn't fit into Microsoft's plan to sweep PC Minecraft under the rug.
I'm quite surprised there hasn't been more of an outcry regarding the PS4 availability.
In a way this doesn't necessarily change anything for the worse, but at the same time it could potentially mean a lot. It was becoming apparent once they made the Windows 10 edition and a lot of focus started shifting to things like add-on this and marketplace that, or whatnot, that the end goal was to create a new ecosystem (and monetize it). While adding versions for other mediums, and even bringing them all together, is a great thing for those versions, it's still sort of (potentially) unfortunate for the original game (especially if it starts getting gradually phased away) or for the players who don't like the restrictions of the other versions, but we traded a lot away in the name of accessibility and a better performing engine, I suppose.
If it is the start of a gradual end of the version I do play, I have so much invested in my world that I won't be starting anew with another version (if it were something radically new and different like a Minecraft 2 of sorts, that's another story, but not the same exact game). It's a shame the original game is being given a subtitle as though it were some side version now, even if (for now, anyway) it's going to continue to be updated.
Not saying it's a good thing, but people need to stop assuming it's a bad thing. Microsoft invested 2.5 billion dollars in Mojang and Minecraft. you'd be stupid if you'd think they didn't want to make that money back somehow.
Regardless, Microsoft has done no serious harm to the game so far, and has shown no signs of planning to do harm. The marketplace itself didn't even come with new rules about modding your game or creating custom content, it's just there as an extra storefront without forcing you to spend any money on it. Let them have their storefront if they want it so bad, it's not gonna kill the game or the community.
I'd be inclined to agree, except 2.5 billion is barely a dent to a company whose yearly income of $16 billion. I'd be completely cool with it if they hadn't usurped the original Minecraft and put it to the side. That alone should tell you they have plans for the future, if you have any sort of experience with large companies.
I was waiting for a thread of this. Considering I am one of the biggest critics of every MC update since 1.7, and I completely HATED 1.9 (I will link threads if you want), this is extremely sketchy from Micro$oft. They took one look at where their sales were coming from and realized they can just ditch this version of the game. And honestly, even most PC players are mindless fanboys with PCs that will just download the W10 version. This is really going to screw with everybody running linux, W7, W8 and OS X though, because they will have to play an older version of the game. If this happens, I personally will be not playing the W10 version and just modding on the java version. If Micro$oft does this, they are really making a massive mistake. I think this is basically micro$oft pushing windows 10 forward to try to get people on 7 to upgrade and people with macs to buy PCs.

Please don't post links to threads that beat dead horses. Calling most PC players "mindless fanboys" is also quite a stretch, I do hope you realize what you said.
I've seen Win 10 edition and it is quite literally just a ported version of PE. It's not polished, and feels very clunky. Realistically speaking people aren't going to be moving from Minecraft to the Crossover edition. Due in part to one thing: mods. Biggest reason behind the existence of Win 10 edition is because Win 10 as an OS retains some elements of their mobile OS, thus can run some apps like the ported MC:W10 edition. Speaking as a Macbook user and former Windows XP user, I'm not turning back to a new Windows platform anytime soon.
We are the minority on this forum. How many PC players do you think actually would care? All of those mindless 11 year olds on mineplex and hypixel would definitely just download the w10 edition and not even think about any of this stuff.
Im going to post this on /r/minecraft/ reddit and see what the response is. Will be interesting,
* I suppose dual-booting into Windows 10 is out of the question?
* MS is trying to save MC as a whole, not ruin it... and they have 2.5 billion reasons to. The only question is the "how". Some like the way they're doing it, some don't.
* Sorry, but as I see it, MS isn't trying to "save" the java version anymore than Fireaxis is trying to "save" Civ2. Some people can spray all the graffiti they want, but the writing's already on the wall.

To make the marketplace worse, the EULA prohibits for-profit mods. I'd be mostly fine with them making a mechanism for selling creations if they allowed people to do so independently..

I'm always amused when people use sale statistics to proof a point regarding playing statistics (which is something completely different). That's called comparing apples and oranges. Get me actual playing statistics; how many people are actually playing Minecraft console edition during the evening... Then we'll talk again.
And just to debunk this even further: did the Windows 10 version really sell more? Considering the fact that most of us Java players got access to it for free? Another interesting point is that Microsoft has used it to push their Windows 10 misery on us as well: everyone who upgraded to Windows 10 (within a certain period) got a free copy / license of Minecraft Windows 10 edition as well. How exactly does all of that add up to these so called sales figures?
Thing is: we're also assuming that they're sharing the real figures and telling us the truth. Why? As showcased above it looks to me as if they even added free copies of their game and mixed those statistics into the sales figures. Way to go
And then there's the small problem of playing statistics. If a family has a game console and buys Minecraft then they're getting themselves a copy which can then be used by the whole family to play with. But if a family buys the Java edition then they'll be looking at buying individual copies: one for every family member (assuming those own their own computer of course) so that the family can play together. How exactly does that add up to those figures?
There are way too many loopholes here in my opinion.
But most of all I don't think you can draw conclusions regarding player amounts solely based on sales figures. Because a sale doesn't imply a happy Minecraft player per definition. Buying software through a marketplace is easier than buying it from the Internet (or in a store) because you select, you pay, you download and you get to play almost right away. No need for installing, logging in, setting up, etc, etc. That is done for you.
So why wouldn't it be possible that many people bought Minecraft on their game console because they knew the name and thought it made a really cool gift, while at the end of the day the person who it was intended for ended up disliking it and stopped playing? Those figures won't be taken into account in your sales chart but believe me that those scenarios also happen.
I must say.. From a business standpoint, there is no reason to care about if they are happy players or not. They already paid for it. The money has been made, regardless of if they regularly play it.

Figured it was time for a change.
Mojang is going downhill fast 😒

It's gonna kill minecraft pc.

Totally agree.
microsoft has no idea how to manage a fantasy SINGLEPLAYER adventure game.
I mean, at least I've always thought that the PC version, singleplayer survival was the most important part of the game.
How can I contact you? We have so many in common. Maybe we can save minecraft together!
What's your religion?
It's MINECRAFT!

marketplace really makes me mad microsoft is doing all it can to get money that it spent on buying minecraft
remember they paid 2.5b and now they are adding dlc to minecraft to take it back
idc about all of this because i don't play pe that much
but i think pe players wont be happy with this ,
even if they discontinued the real minecraft i don't think any other version will have the same community and they can't force people to switch
MC hasn't had the "same community" in a long time.
with the new shaders coming to supe..... update people wont have a choice there is really no good pe shaders now

free skins can't have things getting out from it(idk how to explain it but u cant have things like beard or hat in free skins)

anyway i still don't like it but they can ruin it as much as they wont i play pc version anyway i rarely play pe when i am outside
i dont really understand what you mean i am bad at english
from my opinion if they did these things most people would be happy to switch
1-dont make anything only paid(if they are gonna add paid resource pack or map they should have some free too)
2-Real mods(not the add ons)(this is the biggest reason for me)
3-make official server software like the one for java
4-make a software to port your java world to minecraft
i think mojang should ask people for the thing that 'll make them switch and do it
5-good servers like hypixel
