They aren't going to discontinue the Java edition... All they did is rename it to something that FITS for what it is coded in. They're doing this, to help people differentiate from the MC: Bedrock Edition, and MC: Java Edition. They will continue to update and support all platforms uninvolved. Such as the PS4 edition, and Java Edition. So, bud, you've got nothing to worry about. If they discontinued the Java Edition, they'd have a very, very angry fanbase which is something Mojang can't afford. As this is their #1 product. So, why don't we all sit back, and chill while the updates roll out.
Also, the reason 1.13 is supposed to be a more technical update is not because they're getting ready to finalize the game, it's because they're out of ID's. They're restructuring the game so they will be able to add more features properly without breaking anything.
Anyway this is the worst minecraft idea of all time. Period. Pc(by Pc I mean all computer minecraft) is the best version because 1 every thing but server stuff like realms and VIP is free except for the game. Second the texture pack and maps are easy to get and implement as well as post. And the moding. Try to mod pe. I will have a mod off. You mod pe and I mod pc. The better mod wins. I am a moder and I'm not even that good and computer stuff. This idea is bad. So I think I will start a REAL update mod. It will make mods that are like updates. Tell me if this is a good idea.

It's not, mastermined. It's twhat that update signifies. Mojang's priorities are shifting.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Someone once said, in defense of a poorly thought out suggestion that was not being supported: "Theres so much awesome and rare things to add and youre just like, oh , thats too good, no, i want something common like a grass block"
Sorry, what? Mojang's priorities have always been the same: To make games, and continually add support for said games.
Mojang is not about to abandon the Java Edition, as I had said in my previous post. This update does not even concern the Java Edition, it's getting updated seperately by Jeb and his team. The Bedrock Edition, for the most part, is being worked on by Developer Jason Major, Lisa, Jeison S, and various others that deserve the same mention.
The Bedrock Edition aims to unify the 3 most popular editions of Minecraft into one. This does NOT mean they're abandoning the Java version of the game. They would have too much of a crazy community problem if that were to happen. Plus, Mojang does not want to wrong the community, and Microsoft won't make them. This is shown in the About page on Mojang's website.
In 2014, Mojang was bought by Microsoft. The acquisition hasn’t changed much about our company - we still release and support our games on multiple platforms, including iOS, Playstation and more, as well as Windows and Xbox. We plan to keep our independent spirit and we’ll continue to treat our community with the respect and honesty it deserves.
(Also, you shouldn't have such obviously misspelled words in your argument, as it weakens your credibility.)

I don't think it's so much Mojang's priorities everyone is concerned about, rather, it's Microsoft's true intentions. See, part of this stems from what's occurred in the past. Corporations in general have a tendency to play things such as bait-and-switch, and/or straight up lie in order to preserve user bases. So, some folks here, myself included, have little reason to be assured.
There is also, however, the fact that Microsoft does indeed have some jurisdiction over other editions of Minecraft, however are barred from the PC/Java version as dictated by the contract they signed with Markus. The whole issue is that it sounds like Microsoft is attempting to circumvent this. Now, ignoring the hordes of children that went full tinfoil hat because of 1.9 and EULA, there's also Microsoft's infamy with the legendary Banjo & Kazooie, and Halo franchises.
On a different note, I haven't seen it anywhere called the "Bedrock edition," might wanna nix that. It's just the "Better Together Update."
I see, I do believe that Mojang will stay true to their word, and keep updating Minecraft: Java Edition, as Microsoft, doesn't directly own Minecraft, they own the company that owns Minecraft. If Microsoft does in fact, screw us all over... Than shame on them. But, I will stay on my belief that Mojang will keep on updating the game, as I said before. They wouldn't risk the community being angered.
(Also, here's multiple articles that use the term 'Bedrock Engine/Edition' in referring to this update.
MC, whether you like it or not, is changing, evolving- as it should and as every game does. (Come on, who plays Civ1 anymore?) Of course there's a few vocal diehards that don't want MC to ever change, but they are drowned out by the vast majority can't wait for change, improvements, etc. The game basically hasn't changed in many, many years (hence all the "I'm bored" threads). We've all enjoyed it, had years with it.... but now it's time to move on to the next phase. (BTW, of those "36 million" copies sold, how many were editions other than the java version?)
MC, as a whole, isn't dying. But it is being rejuvenated and updated (about time).
My guess is Win10/PE/Xbox sales and popularity will increase quite a bit once the Better Together update hits, while the java edition sales and popularity will decrease. (Be interesting to see the sales figures next year).
Is that MS's Plan? Of course it is. If you bought Mojang/MC wouldn't you do the same thing- make MC into something it should've been a long time ago? Can you blame Mojang for wanting to make it more relative to todays market and to it's player-base?
To anyone fearing that they will shut down java edition.. Just.. Stop.. They are not that stupid to screw over ~27m buyers. That is just suicide regardless of how you look at it. Development can be discontinued.. And at one point probably will, its just how games work. But seeing the community Minecraft has.. I dont think that even a cease of development would stop people from making amazing modifications with features the base game never had.

So this Better Together Update is not coming to the PS4. Does anyone know if some of the features in that pack are coming to the PS4? I would love the 4K & Shaders, Infinate Worlds...
The Better Together update IS coming to ps4..... all but the cross-play part. Sony won't allow it (see the article above the Better Together update announcement in the News).
You're right! After carefully reading the announcement again, it doesn't specifically say the ps4 won't get the BTU, but it doesn't say it will either! (More "nos" than "yes").
Of course they're not going to suddenly announce "No more updates for the Java edition". They'll just keep giving us the same kind of disappointing updates we've been getting these past three years.
Some want interesting changes/updates. They want MC to change.
Some want it to stay the same cause "Notch's MC was the best" or "Don't mess with my MC!" (like it was ever "yours"). So all the Mojang employees should just go home and stop with the updates/changes? MC is a finished game and doesn't need anything else, cause it's the Perfect Game?
You can't have it both ways.
Poor Mojang. Darned if they do, darned if they don't.

I just need to know if the update is coming to PS4 without the cross-play. I guess I'll wait 'till August when it's out. If it doesn't come to PS4, I might consider buying a Switch.

No matter what they do they will never please everyone. Ever.
If you have a file, a Java program could write to it and take input from it. A C++ program can also write to and take input from it, and the two programs could do so with the same file. The issue is how different the Java Edition of Minecraft is from the other versions. There are many bugs, glitches, and features that some versions (mostly the java version) have that other versions simply don't.
Minecraft information is stored in custom Minecraft files.
The coin system is built so guillible content creators think this is good for them.
Think about it, you're giving your hardworked content to microsoft -for free- so they can money off it that you'd otherwise get, and your reward is a bit of ingame currency. (which is worthless outside of the store)
It shouldnt take a lot to realize that this is basically a scam.
Have to agree with you on that one. That is of course assuming people can only spend things in-game, I could imagine that if you register yourself as a developer that you might get options to redeem coins for other currency (console credits for example). But that can become tricky, which I think is funny because Mojang basically limited themselves here. After all: making money from anything they made is against the EULA. You're not allowed to sell in-game creations in exchange for money.
I'm not sure but to my knowledge PE versions follow the same EULA as the Java edition.
EULAs, like other licenses, are superseded when someone signs a separate license. You can, for example, release something under a Creative Commons Non-Commercial license, but then make a deal with a media company to allow them broadcast rights in exchange for payment, even though they are a commercial broadcaster.
Or, you can release software under a commercial license that forbids modification, then years later release the source code under the GPL or a similar open license, as in fact has happened to some software (the original DOOM and Quake engines, Blender.) The new license supersedes the old one, in this case, for everyone.
I have not heard anything about creators approved for the marketplace being restricted to earning in-game currency only. I doubt any creator would have agreed to sell marketplace items if that were the case. Unless I hear a reliable report otherwise, I'm assuming that they did, in fact, sign a contract with Microsoft that provides them with compensation. Those without such a contract are bound by the existing EULA.

The java version isn't going away- what would the Linux, Mac, etc. play?
However, Mojang is always looking towards the future and it may have felt the need to shift it's priorities.
Don't suppose that runs on Windows 7 and Linux... XD
Might be nice to play on my servers from my PE copy.
Oh well.
