(I know some of you are going to say why don't you just google it yourself, but I searched for weeks and found nothing helpful)
I've heard people say that Y coordinate position doesn't affect the spawning of Nether Fortress Mobs, but after duplicating a Wither farm above the Nether bedrock, I found this piece of information unpractical. Then I saw on gnembon's tutorial for a guardian about using leaves to increase spawn height. I didn't quite get that. Can someone explain the Y coordinate limitations and the leaves increasing spawn height thing?
Basically, the mobs that are exclusive to nether fortresses only spawn within the range of a nether fortress (thus the exclusivity). The spawn algorithm check to see if where it's trying to spawn a monster is within a fortress or a part of a fortress. If yes or either it uses a special spawn list instead of the normal one, resulting in wither skeletons and blazes. (HERE is my source). I think the area above the bedrock doesn't count as in the area of the fortress.
The leaf thing can't raise the max height of the spawning area, what it's doing is making sure that the whole height of the spawning area is used to maximum effect.
What the video is saying is that no spawn attempt will be made higher than 3 blocks above the lowest block that receives sunlight.
Since there is no sunlight in the Nether this won't help with fortress mobs at all.
Actually, for some purposes at least I think there is "sunlight" on blocks that only have bedrock and naturally generated netherrack above them, so it's possible that the same technigue could increase spawn rates if you put a roof around the edges of the fortress walkways.
For the guardian tank in the video all the spaces in the spawning tank are covered and receive no sunlight however he's worried about spawn attempts that start outside the tank but where the mobs could spawn inside the tank and using the leaves to raise the area where spawns are attempted close the tank in the monument area where the spawns would be guardians but leave it as low as possible where non guardians would attempt to spawn so that there are as many attempts to spawn guardians as possible close enough to the tank that some could end up in the tank.
As he says, he didn't have to use leaves but they have advantages and he likes them.
Since wither skellitons spawn on solid sufaces, unlike guardians, then, for that technigue to work, if it works at all in the Nether, you'd need a floor at the same hight as the walkway. Knock down the walls at the sides so they are the same hight as the walkway and extend the walkway 5 blocks in all directions.
Dear Pros of Minecraft:
Thanks!

Just testing.
Spawning is a complicated subject!
