You're not alone. Why some guys put up that nonsense (playing old versions) is beyond me.
This is a perfect example of what I was referring to in my last post; I still play in 1.6.4 because I would absolutely have to mod later versions in order to make them playable - and NOBODY tells me how I should play or just to "put up with features that you hate"; if Mojang removed the ability to play older versions; well, there's (legal, at least for now) ways to get around that; they would have to somehow wipe it off my computer (never mind off-computer backups) to prevent me from playing (which I'm pretty sure is illegal, not to mention that even if they changed the EULA older versions are exempt, as stated here; "But those changes will be effective only to the extent that they can legally apply. For example if you use the Game only in single-player mode and don't use the updates we make available then the old EULA applies". In fact, even if they tried shutting down the authentication servers it is legal to crack the game in order to keep playing a game that you paid for in singleplayer, never mind that the game itself doesn't require a login).
Also, I think it is silly to play on a world for a few days then make another world, ad infinitum, and never really make any actual progress - there is whole lot more to Minecraft than simply killing the Ender Dragon, which is really what keeps the vast majority of players playing after they have played the game once or twice, like many other games that I've played, because there isn't much replay value).
This is the only real world that I've had; even counting all the other worlds that I've had I've only made 8 main worlds in close to 4 years with this one being the only one that I have consistently played on and kept the whole time - indeed, it was the first world I made after buying the game:
And I will NOT despoil it by updating to a newer version, unless said version was modded to have the 1.6.4 world generator (which means no new biomes or many of the new features, so why even bother). The other 7 worlds I've had were made using my on mods which enhance my gameplay - while 1.7 did the exact opposite (not just underground but above ground; even with only 7 common biomes 1.6.4 has more variety within what I consider to be a reasonably sized area) and so much for world customization in 1.8.

Exactly. Minecraft is a game about playing the way you want to. Do you want to make minigames with hundreds of command blocks? Do it! Do you want to do UHC? Do it! Do you want to play with massive amounts of tech mods? Do it! Do you want to own the most caved-out world? Do it! Let's not get too monopolized and think that everyone should play our way.

I'm going to say combat. This is going to sound like complete crap to anyone who knows me as a player, as I am mainly focused on PvP, however the combat system is complete crap.. The only places where it is decent is where it has been modified to the point where Vanilla-style combat does not function effectively. In Vanilla combat - pre 1.9, which many mainstream servers still use - you often get accused of cheating for actually using strategy, not just clicking fast and having a good ping. Bring potions? Dishonourable. Use wolves? Can't fight me yourself. Fight with a team? Too scared to 1v1. Actually use that fort you spent hours building? Coward. Snipe them? You used a bow! BOWSPAMMER! And so forth. The way you don't get accused of cheating is by fighting like they are.. And that turns into a money contest. Whoever has a good mouse and keyboard, and can pay for good internet, while also having time to spend learning how to click fast - Yes, I know you think strafing is significant, but it actually is not - will win the fight. An example of a much better combat system than either 1.8 or 1.9's is the LotR Mod's combat system.. Good old 1.7.10, the Last Glory Day of Modded. Instead of weapon choice not mattering - in 1.8 - or being much oversimplified - in 1.9 - there is diversity and your weapon choice has a heavy effect on how you fight. Instead of bows being about getting Power 5, Flame, and Punch 2, there are choices in bows, and some are better for different things. Armour choice has some effect, though it is minimal enough that people do typically go for higher protection in general usage. Combat has been made something that you plan for, and use actual skill, not just a talent of being able to click fast, or in rhythm with a timer.

Minecraft ambient sounds. Although Minecraft has its share of creepy things, ambient sounds always seemed out-of-place to me.
Server ranks you'd have to buy. I don't get why people would spend more money on something to get some petty rewards on just one server. There are better places you could spend that extra cash.

Are you kidding me? They have the audacity to complain about use of bow or any attempt to bring depth into it when literally the only skill a minecraft pvp player would ever use is spam clicking?
Really, I want a Minecrfat PvP player on the phone now to explain this bu- nonsense to me.
I want a Minecraft PvP phone app, in which all you can do is spam-click the screen and the better you time the spam clicking, the longer you'll survive. Oh and of course random lag is simulated (if not real).
Because I am a terrible person.
And Plot twist : You are actually controlling Minecraft players remotely with that.
As in: the real people sitting at their computers, completely lobotomised except for the compulsion to frantically click their mouse-button whenever an app-user sends them the command to do so by way of small electrical shocks.

Yeah, it's a sad thing that's happened to the Minecraft PvP community. As new things were being added, players loved to find new ways to use them. It was cool if you could show how something was practical, or worth getting. Now, players complain if you beat them using a skill or piece of planning they don't have.

i don't get why people hack. Its supposed to be a family friendly game where fun is the whole game. I wish minecraft servers that are ONLINE mode HAVE to be official minecraft versions FROM the minecraft version area and not like Wurst or LiquidBounce
That is actually one of the things I get the most about MC. The reason people hack is because it's relatively easy and carries a huge reward.
Now onto the topic itself, I don't get how people watch Minecraft youtubers.

They can't make content, its kinda sad what people will watch these days.
One thing I don't get, is the "OMG CREEPER KILLED ME LOST MY STUFF NEEDS NERF" that I have gotten a lot of. Back in the day of MC, they would be an instant death and your house mansion would be gone completely. Nowadays, you face off against a creeper at your door, and you end up just needing to craft a new door. Same goes with the rarity of materials. Do you remember back in 2010, "OH MY GOD I FOUND DIAMONDS!!!!!!!!" Nowadays its more like "oh cool more diamonds for me."
I swear creepers mobs and the rarity of diamonds was nerfed before 1.0. Remember skeletons sniping you from 40 blocks away? They can't even hit you from point-blank nowadays!
I swear creepers mobs and the rarity of diamonds was nerfed before 1.0. Remember skeletons sniping you from 40 blocks away? They can't even hit you from point-blank nowadays!
In fact, they became about 50% rarer in caves (above y=10) because their range was shifted down (actually, it has always been the same, what they changed was the direction veins of ore generate in; before they generated up from their starting y-coordinate but now they generate down; the result is that the amount of diamond above y=10 fell from about half the total to a third of the total, which also decreased by about 25% due to more diamond being lost in and below bedrock):
Well, there *was* a bug that made diamonds and other ores unintentionally rarer in a certain quadrant of the world, but only in that area:
Beta 1.6 Before, Diamond was about 50% rarer in the north-east quadrant of the point (0,0) compared to the quadrant to the south-west. In this update, clay blocks were more rare than diamond due to a glitch.
And because that was a *bug* you cannot claim that they purposely made it more common, just as they did not actually make caves more common in Beta 1.8 (they fixed a bug that caused caves to dead-end at chunk borders due to inconsistent generation across chunks, so while there was the same amount as before they were much more interconnected).
Creepers?
Beta 1.8 1.8-pre1 Creepers are much more deadly and will definitely kill an unarmored player if in a radius of 4 to 5 blocks around the creeper. This damage is also difficulty-independent.
1.3.1 12w30a Creepers were made stronger. Depending on difficulty, creeper damage is scaled now with Easy: ~50% less damage, Normal: same damage as before, and Hard: ~33% more damage than before. In full diamond armor and hard difficulty a creeper can knock players down to 2 hearts.
1.4.2 12w38b New creeper fall mechanics; creepers will explode if they fall on the player from a certain height.
Not mentioned: 1.9 In full diamond armor and on Normal difficulty a creeper can kill a player within 1-2 blocks due to armor offering less protection as damage increases. (which is just a dumb change; my response is to make my armor even more overpowered so I can survive them, which is still possible even on Hard - of course, since armor penetration depends on damage and most other mobs deal much less damage it has little effect, so the overall effect is that you get far less damage overall)
Of course, prior to around 1.2, when the new mob AI was first implemented, they continued following the player as they counted down to explosion, a mechanic I restored in a mod with the result that I've been getting a far higher rate of creepers exploding on me, even as I reduced their countdown radius from 7 to 5 blocks (their explosions deal damage up to 6 blocks away so this guarantees that they will hurt you if they explode. I also nerfed armor protection and maximum creeper explosion damage, which together gives about the same maximum post-armor damage as before, but more overall since they can walk right up to you and I made explosion damage drop off at a slower rate, and to a minimum of 6 instead of 1). Actually, the skeleton strafing in 1.9 is just a revival of the same mechanic for skeletons, also lost around that time.
If they did used to have more damaging explosions (as in block damage) sometimes it is better not to have them do too much damage; would you like it if Endermen could take your chests? Yep, they could take ANY block when first added - which was nerfed because it made them too overpowered; as for other blocks, they should not be able to take any block; everybody knows that a dirt house (which will be obliterated by a creeper explosion) is a poor choice. It is also better to compare older versions to 1.7 or earlier since 1.8 introduced a lot of AI bugs, some of which have not been fixed or even marked as "works as intended", like mobs not noticing you for up to several seconds.
Servers that have increasingly complex and annoying indicators for something.
Upon joining you are greeted by an obscenely large multi-colored text of the server's name, along with your chat being spammed by constant messages indicating some announcements, achievements, and resources, of which, is also in an obscenely large and bolded text. Then the text in front of your screen switches words constantly that make up various brief announcements and, to make things even more annoying, constantly barrage such announcements with various noises.
That's just logging in.
Once playing these servers every little thing you do is of some type of achievement and barrages your screen again with similarly annoying actions. Of course, items on the server also have special actions so players can join in on the "fun" and use annoying abilities and stuff that constantly barrage your screen with random stuff.
Back in my day, mini game servers was just a lobby you go to, select a mode, play, repeat. None of this fancy random garbage barraging.
Save for SethBling and the likes maybe.
