I'm going to be blunt, I'm starting to hate this game. Survival mode bores me as I have no real interest in it and I suck at building. I have zero creativity and I hate practically everything that I build. If I ever like a creation of mine, I always find some problem with it that I can't fix and it just makes me mad. I'm really feeling like this game was a waste of my time and money since the only good that it's done is allow me to make a few decent friends (most of whom I don't talk to outside of the server). My question is should I just give up on this game and throw it straight into the trash can on my laptop or should I try to find a way to enjoy it? I'm running really low on patience with this game as nothing I do ever seems to work. The only decent thing that I've made is a treehouse but that's about all that I've accomplished save for a couple of skins. I'm not saying that Minecraft is a bad game or anything but the more that I play it, the more that I come to realize how bad I am at it. If anyone can help me find a way to enjoy this game, I'd appreciate it as I want to have fun with it but nothing I do ever seems to work out. Thanks in advance!
Have you tried mods? They can help increase the diversity and appeal of Minecraft.
Other than that, the only thing I can recommend is taking a break from the game. Stop playing for a month or two, and when you are at your computer and are wondering what to play, launch Minecraft and see if you're interested again.
Sounds like you've boxed yourself in in terms of imagination. It happens, people get stifled.
I suggest rather than trying to create new things, use the game to take things in.
Try downloading adventure maps and minigames.
Watch Youtubers how do what you like, be it building / Redstone / PvP etc (we can help with examples).
Take a break for a while. If you're frustrated then the beest thing can be take time off and cool down.
If none of that sparks and interest for you, Minecraft might not be the game for you. Sit it in an archive somewhere and find something you enjoy. There's nothing wrong with not enjoying something
I agree with the others, try mods. Or try set yourself a goal ie: Start up a server with ten players on at peack time. Just an exampole for someone who building for someone who doesn't enjoy/can't build.

The vanilla game play just isn't for you it sounds like. As the others say, try mods to tailor the game to more your style. If that doesn't work for you then it's time to move on.
Sounds like you're bored of MC (like one foot is nailed to the floor and you're just going around in circles).
Mods won't help- it's basically still the same ole game. (I've always thought that if you need mods to make the game playable for you- then something is wrong with the game in the first place!)
Contrary to popular belief, nobody is making you play MC. You (gasp) don't have to play it. There's 10's of thousands of other really good games out there. If you want a challenge, but something a little different, try StarMade (MC in space!)
OR, just quit playing games for a while, period.
Go outside.
Go somewhere.
Quit texting and actually talk to someone face-to-face.

On a more serious note, the problem is just that you're not good at it. And when you're not good at something, especially a video game, quitting is not the answer. The only way you can get better is by playing the game more. Watch YouTube videos or tutorials, ask any friends who play the game for any tips.
And on another note, you don't really have to be good at a game to enjoy it. Despite my name, I'm actually not that good at Sonic games (Particularly the Classic ones, but it's mostly because I like to explore in games rather than go as fast as possible), but I'm still able to enjoy the games.

Yeah, if I ever lag or something and fall into lava and lose a lot of work, I usually just InvEdit my stuff back. But something like this seems like it's your own fault, I mean, you were setting yourself up for disappointment.
You say you have "zero" creativity. Does that mean that you are not good at being creative or you just don't want to be creative? In other words, do you set out to make something (such as a castle) and make it poorly or could you not care less to make one? If the later, then perhaps Minecraft isn't for you. But if you want to make stuff but lack the creativity then that can be fixed. There's no need to beat youself over your lack of creativity because there are other means of being "creative" while lacking the skill.
If you lack the skill then you can look for help on-line. There are lots of tutorials out there. Youtube has lots of "how to build..." type of videos to show you step by step how to make something. You can use Google Image Search for looking at other people's examples. Just as an example, dome making guide:
I could not do this by myself but fortunately I don't have to figure it out since someone already has. I have made an underwater dome following this guide and other guides on Youtube. It was a lot of work but fun. Then I put a garden in the dome where trees grew. Then I also found a Youtube video for making submarines (step-by-step). Made a home with ultra-unrealistic elements like the sub, dome, an ICBM concealed in a mountain next to my home. It's kind of like a Doctor Evil style home. Again, it's about imagination. What do you enjoy building and doing, then lookup how to do it.
As others have mentioned, there's also mods out there to automate building like Instant Structures Mod (last I checked it only worked up to 1.8). The point is, you need to want to do these things and use your imagination. Creativity can be developed with guides and help. But if you don't want to build stuff then Minecraft may not be for you.
Minecraft isn't only about survival or creative building. Try adventure maps, try getting into redstone or command blocks, try minigames on hypixel or mineplex or a much smaller server. Or you can just stop playing. You don't have to play the game. Don't force yourself to play it. If you don't like it, quit. Try another game or another hobby.

If you're interested in an awesome, white-listed, pure vanilla server, consider applying!
It is a great server, completely vanilla, meaning there's no mods, and is basically an MMORPG inside of Minecraft. I've spent so many hours in this and there's lots of quests to do. It really is amazing. Other than that, there's a whitelisted server I play on for a mod called Thaumcraft, and it has a really great community, once you get to know people. It's incredibly welcoming, and while small, everyone on the server is really fun, I've spent almost 2 years on this server and only recently has it started to bore me a little. But the little dead periods only last for a week or two, usually.
thaumcraft.duckdns.org is the website for the Thaumcraft server. If you want to join just read the rules and talk to people using the world map, an admin might be on to quiz you and let you in just like that
Everyday I ask myself the same basic question. Should I too give up? But only I can answer for myself. For me, it seems like I will never be able to get through the Nether because of my Acrophobia (fear of heights) the makes it heard even to use the sneak to hang off the side. So, why do I still play? I am still at the "find a way to enjoy it" stage. You are not alone in wondering but ultimately the choice is yours. I have never used Mods so cannot say whether or not they would help.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
