I have a friend who hosts a server on his server machine and his connection thing is blahblah.noip.biz.
Is it safe to direct connect to someones server? I dont want to do that and somehow risk him or one of his friends putting some kind of virus in my PC. He is a good friend of mine, but he can be a bit unscrupulous at times.
Every time you connect to a website or internet service, you give them your IP as that is your public facing identifier. It's the same with connecting to a server, except this time you know the person who would be able to see the IP. They can't force anything on to your machine with it if that's what you are asking.
On top of everything players above have said, install malwarebytes. It's a free and a very powerful Anti-Malware software. If you feel like you did something or downloaded something that could put your computer at risk that your main anti virus isn't detecting, run a scan with malwarebytes.
But no, connecting to any minecraft server through the OFFICIAL minecraft client is completely safe.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
A server can't put anything on your computer except for a resource pack, and that would not be able to mess up your computer.
Is there anything that can be done with an IP address? Sorry I'm sorta noobish with networking..
If you connect to a server through Minecraft in any way, it should not be able to put a virus on your computer.

Thanks a lot for all the replies, everyone! I guess I was just worried about nothing. Never hurts to be cautious, right?
