I was given $50. I wanted to use it on the steam sales (halleluyah!) but then minecraft came into mind. I know its a great game since ive played it with my friends and such before, but i haven't bought it yet. But the $35 dollar cost has me worried. Is it worth the money? I'm really in a dilemma right now.
Minecraft is worth buying! Well, it depends on your type. If you like watching Minecraft videos and other stuff like that, then I recommend you buying it! But if you don't like the concept of it, then don't. If you don't like survival, there's also adventure maps and creative. Don't forget servers as well! I would recommend you buying it, but really, it depends of your type.
I'm agreeing w/ MasterJack here - Minecraft isn't for everyone. It is loads of fun but not for anyone. If you liked playing w/ leggos back in the day and you like games where you have a lot of creative freedom, then you would like Minecraft.
When did the price go up to $35? I got it for 27...
But yeah, I would buy it if you've played it already and liked it. Survival never gets old for me, even though I've played for 3 years and am not really good :P.
I'd say only buy it if you want to play multiplayer tbh.

note: Then I mention a group of people in my posts, i mean the majority of information i have seen from that group, and my statement may not be accurate for every individual in that group.
The hourly cost of the electricity to run my computer during the time I've spent playing Minecraft is several times greater than the hourly cost of the game itself; while you (and I) may not have to pay for electricity the cost of Minecraft is negligible in the long run when compared to many other games which do not have much long-term replay value, mainly because you don't have much freedom; you do not even have to defeat the Ender Dragon (etc) if you want, or play Creative if you just want to build, or add mods to the game (much more varied than many other games thanks to the use of Java and no API which restricts you to plugins which can only modify certain things). Not to mention you usually have to pay for updates, while people who bought Minecraft for $10(?) when it was in Alpha still get free updates after 7 years (also, Minecraft.net says it still costs $26.95, the cost I paid 3 years ago; the cost can be different in other countries).
Also, Minecraft is not just for multiplayer, which I've still yet to play after more than 3 years and around 3,500 hours of playtime, including around 1,900 in a single world. In fact, it is a widespread misconception that most players play multiplayer - more play singleplayer.
Interesting fact: Minecraft is the only game I've bought; otherwise I've only played free browser-based games.
Yes, it is worth buying Minecraft, due to tons of reasons like, You can play with your friends without anyone in LAN(Local and near), play world wide, skins and even mods, commands, and wings/eleytras, you, and use the leftover money for steam(if i were you i would buy terraria lol), there are free versions, but they SUCK!, if you buy minecraft, it has hypixel and mineplex, they are popular and awesome servers(the hive and cuebcraft they're also cool), they have minigames, you can get skins, but wait!, you need Java!
Just buy it. You think you're getting one game when you buy it, but you get a whole lot more on different maps, servers and mods. There are first person shooter games and Mario maker and Mario kart inside minecraft (on different servers and mods)
Minecraft has offered me much more. I wouldn't use it all on steam, but buy minecraft, and then use the rest for steam. It has offered me lots of enjoyment. unless you don't like building, open world games, then yeah, use it on steam.
Honestly depends on what type of gamer you are. I'd say it is because it's an experience and it's pretty damn cheap so if you don't like it, you could gift it to someone else or try some mods

Minecraft fanatic, xla mod finally up and running on Ranked Boost and Pokemon GO server.
I think it is completely worth it. But first, is Minecraft a game you can really get into for a long time? There are plenty of games I would have a blast playing when at a friends house or something, but I would never play them on my own free time. But either way I think it is worth your time investing into it. Now obviously since this is the Minecraft forum, there are going to be many people telling you it is worth it, but there really is so much you can do with this game. Almost everything about it is customizable.
If survival is not for you, you can build anything in creative from castles, cathedrals, cruise ships, skyscrapers, mansions, theme parks, etc. Or you can check out others who have built these things (there are some amazing builds out there!). You can play on servers, whether that be minigames, factions (Teams of players take over land and wage war on other teams), kitPvP (probably not always friendly), or just plain survival mode with random players, and of course much more. You can play adventure maps, where you play on a map created by another player(s) and carry out tasks, usually within a storyline, or even horror maps (my favorite). You can get into technical Minecraft, and explore different game mechanics, play around with and learn redstone and/or command blocks, or the new structure blocks which I have no idea about. You can of course install mods which really allow you to do anything.
You'll easily spend over a thousand hours playing, and even if it gets boring from time to time, it's one of those games you're always excited to come back to after a long break.

OP has probably already decided since the Summer Sale has already ended, but post count makes me feel better so...
I got my moneys worth out of Minecraft, for sure. I only get new games every once in a while so I dedicate a lot of thought if I plan on buying a game. I spent years playing Minecraft and if you would expect to get that kind of use out of the game then 'by all means get it. If you have friends that play the game then it can be a really fun thing to do together and it's a fun thing to do if you're bored. I no longer play Minecraft, but I have many memories of playing with others and it really has been a good investment. It's up to you.

Renewed shall be the blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king

If you found it fun when you played it with your friends, then do so. And besides, you still got $15 to spend for the summer sale!
You can just call me Canary.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Use it on Steam. It is a better idea.
