Hello dear people of the internet, or forum dwellers. I have a random question about my soon to be RPG server and Mojang's EULA.So, in the RPG there will be different Chapters, Books and such. Those will come with updates and have different zones for each chapter.
So if after you finish the first chapter you must purchase a membership (5$ per 3 month), would that be okay, if everyone has to pay?
And if I have housing for the rpg -which everyone can access no matter what- would I be able to sell out the blocks that you use to build? Considering houses just act cool (for now)?
No, I do not think that's allowed. Don't take my word for it.
If house blocks can be obtained by another way other than just buying them, them maybe. The membership is not allowed. I'm pretty sure.
So, if I had blocks be sold by merchants throughout the game, and selled them on the online shop, then that should be okay? And why would the membership not work, just as a "players won't buy it"?
I think those are complicated enough questions that you might have to ask Mojang.
Memberships are allowed as long as everybody pays the same, you might consider chapter 1 as a free trial but I'm not aware that that is mentioned in the Eula.

Ok, I checked (they really make it hard to find) free trials are permitted but all players have to have access to the same gameplay. I'm not sure how that would fit in with having chapters, if you have areas or features that are only available to those running a certain chapter it may not be allowed.
"Can I offer a limited trial period for all users?
Yes. So long as both trial and paying users have access to the same gameplay features during the trial, we’re cool with it."
As for the blocks, if every body has access to most blocks but you charge for a few that aren't usable for anything else, no diamond blocks, that might be considered cosmetic but I really don't know. It doesn't matter if everybody can obtain the blocks in some more time consuming way, you can't sell diamond blocks even though they can be obtained by mining.

Well, for the diamond blocks and such, some blocks will be sold by merchants throughout the game (depending on the area). But the blocks could not be used for in game benefits. Housing will be the only way to build in the gamemode, and it is provides no in-game benefits. It will mostly be for you and your friends to enjoy and build a pvp zone to battle each other (with no drops). Just to clarify. =P
Basically, diamond blocks will only be for the looks. =)
And how do you think that I could contact Mojang? I can't find it on their help pages. =P

If they're only for aesthetics, I'm sure that's fine.
So are you going to make the diamond blocks impossible to convert to diamonds?
Or will there be no use for diamonds on your server? No mining, chopping wood, fighting monsters or using your own armor and weapons for pvp?
The blocks will only be able to be used for housing, yes. But the will be mines and forests where you can get drops to make your own items and weapons for the MMORPG. But the best weapons will come from quests.

Just testing.
