I'm looking for a crafting calculator that gives me a list of items that I can make with the inventory I have.
I've tried looking, but all I can find is "To make X items, you need Y raw materials".
EDIT: I ask because I'm on a puzzle-oriented (Vanilla/Realms; set inventory per puzzle) server right now, and am currently stuck. The calculator doesn't need to be a mod/add-on. Just something I can pull up in a browser.
It would be so helpful if there was a mod for that.
only thing i could think of which does something like that would be the ME network from applied energistics if you set all possible recipes for whatever you are crafting, but its a pain in the long run if there are many components needed.
Not quite what you're asking for, but if you search the Wiki for the things you have you can see what can be made out of them and see if you have the other required components.

don't forget if we are talking about modpacks which at times change scripts that information wouldn't be correct. So that would only work if the recipes are not changed by minetweaker or another similar mod.
I understand why you're asking. To me, such a program would be helpful. But you don't necessarily need one. A seasoned player has a ton of crafting recipes memorized, and can decide what needs to be made in about half a second. You said you're on a puzzle server, so ask yourself, what's best for the situation? Make a quick list, assess your inventory, and decide what in that list can be made and what can't. Basic math, is all it is, not too big of a problem.
Yes, the point of a puzzle server is to provide a challenge, but there comes a time when seemingly all the permutations of materials have been exhausted.
I can't just build straight across, as there aren't enough blocks to span the gap, even with running and jumping.
I can't build ladders, since the planks would be consumed for a Crafting Table.
I can't set two blocks down, and take the one behind me, and put it up front to leap-frog my way across, since there are no item drops on destruction.
There is nothing I can do to add to my inventory, and only logging off and back onto the server will restore any lost items.
So mining the clay blocks won't give you more blocks. With what I know I don't see how this is possible, unless there are invisible blocks between the platforms. Are you sure this puzzle isn't old back when fence used to be made with 6 sticks?
If you made a crafting bench the only block you could make would be a diamond block.
I have a solution to the puzzle below. It's in a spoiler if you don't want the solution given away:
Make crafting table.
Place it on the edge of the starting platform.
Craft 3 ladders and a diamond block.
Place a ladder on the crafting table facing the other platform.
Place the wooden planks on the ladder's face, so it ends up being placed three blocks out from the starting platform.
Place the second ladder on the wooden planks facing the opposite platform.
Place the diamond block similarly to how you placed the wooden planks. Now, your inventory and block placement should look like this:
Here's the hard part: You have to jump the remaining 5 block gap to place the ladder on the opposite platform. You most likely won't place it the first go, but I am assuming keepInventory is on so you can try again.
Once you manage to place the ladder on the opposite, you are faced with completing a 5 horizontal jump with a ladder 1 block down. This is a possible jump, which I know since I tested it myself (you may need a run jumping start).
My point to you regarding your question is that you don't really need a calculator to solve this problem. Rather, doing these problems only takes what AgentCPU0 and Hexalobular said. To find the solution, I browsed through the potential crafting recipes for each material on the minecraft wiki. Using my game knowledge of block-placing mechanics and some thinking outside the box, I was struck with an idea after I saw a particular crafting recipe. All that a calculator would have done for me is provide an alternative to going to the wiki, which really wasn't that difficult. Meanwhile, the majority of solving the problem was a result of my game knowledge and a bit of ingenuity, so that I was able to be inspired while looking through crafting recipes.
In the end, you don't have to know all of the combinations of items you can make, but just the types of items/blocks you can make. This is why the minecraft wiki and your ideas will suffice as means to solving these puzzles.

you mean like the xbox 360 inventory? i've yet to come across a mod that does this for pc version.

Check out my modpack if you are looking for a tough modpack, though its still having stuff changed here and there: http://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/deadly-encounters
Also using agricraft and pam's harvestcraft and want to fix the sesame seed issue? I know how to check my bio for link to see how to fix it.

Just testing.

Fortunately, I'm not dealing with any mods. I'm on a Vanilla/Realms, puzzle-oriented, server.
Right now, I'm specifically hung up on trying to cross a 10-block gap with nothing more than (no Crafting Table, Furnace, etc.):
5 planks
6 gold bars
10 diamonds
8 emeralds
7 sticks
And having such a calculator would at least show me what options I have to create, without giving any solutions outright,

I know BUT is that not the point that the point of a puzzle server?
Also use planks table make pick and craft blocks to build ur way across
jump the rest

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
