Recently I have had no urge to play this game at all. I don't do any singleplayer and I only check multiplayer to see if any friends are online that I can chat with but other than that I very rarely actually play Minecraft at all these days. With this in mind, I have to ask: Should I just quit this game? The reason that I don't play is because I have no creativity with building anything (I have ideas but I am terrible at building so the ideas are useless despite how much I like them) and this kills any motivation I have to play this game. Seeing as I am terrible at the core purpose of Minecraft, I'm considering just giving up since there would be no purpose to continue playing. Is there anything you guys would recommend as to how to improve my building skills before I call it quits on this game or should I just give up? I appreciate any advice you could give me so thanks in advance.
I'd play modded which adds a lot more that you can do. You could also do minigames or other kinds of maps that don't require you to just build. To enhance building skills I'd use youtube and practice.
Meh, it's just a game, and games are usually played for fun. There are plenty of other games to play, and you can always come back if you feel like it.
If the game seems more like a commitment or chore, then it's probably time to let it go--maybe for a few months, or maybe for good. The point of Minecraft (and any game, really) is to have fun. If you're not having fun, it's not worth it to play. Our interests change over time, and it's entirely possible for something you used to spend hours on to become something you have lukewarm interest in at best. If you walk away for a time, then realize you want to come back after all, that's absolutely fine. No-one will pass judgement on you for it.
However, don't let your building capability discourage you. Building isn't the core of Minecraft. Minecraft is what you want it to be. I'm no master builder myself, and I'm okay with that. The world will keep spinning if I am incapable of making massive castles and elaborate sculptures. If you really want to improve, look for some tutorials and guides as others have suggested. I can't name any particular ones off the top of my head, but a quick Google search should yield copious results.
Like I said before, the final decision is yours.

Insulting people for their beliefs is not a good way of convincing them to adopt yours.
Fiction is just a game of make-believe recorded on paper or film. But that's what makes it so great.
I do not see Minecraft as a building game and spend hardly any of my time building (very basic builds when I do, your typical Survival mode shack which is function more than form, I do put some more effort in and add decoration to my main bases but they are still basically boxes) - Minecraft is a sandbox game which allows you to do almost anything (within the limits of the game and rules), as even said on Minecraft.net:
Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, people built structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grew players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things. It can also be about adventuring with friends or watching the sun rise over a blocky ocean. It’s pretty. Brave players battle terrible things in The Nether, which is more scary than pretty. You can also visit a land of mushrooms if it sounds more like your cup of tea.
Look at pictures of other peoples creations to get ideas on architecture/design. Everyone starts out building weak stuff (well maybe not everyone, probably some architects/enthusiasts played and busted out sweet structures right away).
I think my first creation was just a dirt hut... now my dirt castles are the envy of all (or so I imagine).
Play on survival. It doesn't require any creativity to play Minecraft. I have always sucked at art and creating things but if you really want to create pretty stuff; just practice! I started out with making a basic wood house with a flat roof and I eventually got the idea to make a glass house. The glass house really evolved and I even built a beacon by it and I was very proud of myself. I am not a creative mode type player but every once in a while I come up with neat ideas and some fail and some succeed. I built a minecart track that went to the bottom of my mine so I could get down and up faster. I eventually evolved it into making a redstone piston gate to go up when the minecart enters and go back down when its in the cave. What I say to do if you want to be creative is to start small and evolve and who knows maybe you will decide that you would rather fight monsters or find and go into the end or create your own server/realm and build a Jail or a town and you will very much enjoy the game. The reason why millions play Minecraft is because its open-ended and you can do thousands of things while your waiting for the next great patch which will urge you to start over and play in a different world. Explore! Build! Craft! the decision is up to YOU!

play modded minecraft or pvp minecraft... u don't need be a great builder.
First, do what makes U happy' it's ur life, so if quiting the game will better your life then do so, but as others said, there are many aspects to this game. It's actually a game within a game within a game within a game. ( u get the idea ) Really, it's up to the user to fulfill what to do. Just change up ur style
Try mods:: makes it a totally new game ( barely recognize that it's minecraft )
play Survival it's fun to actually eat food, sleep in a bed, gain xp, worry about health, and craft items
copy ur favorite youtuber When I first started, I watch survival series on youtube and followed along what they did ( if they built a base , so do I , if they built a slime farm, so do I ) kinda felt like I was actually playing with them cuz my world looked just like there's.
I think it would be helpful to try your hand at abstract builds. People feel they must make things realistic and then wind up with boring boxes anyway. If you make abstract structures, you don't have to worry about whether it looks realistic or makes sense. Just go in and place things however you feel like at the time, don't let your inner critic drag you down.
This opens up the door to all sorts of surreal structures. Heck, you might even want to try looking at paintings by surreal artists and copying what you see.
And don't forget to read guides on how to make good builds.
Yes you should quit. Mojang has officially ruined the game with their dumb EULA.
Am I missing something? I thought the only thing the EULA changed was that you couldn't sell items that gave an actual gameplay advantage with real currency on servers, and if that's what you're talking about, it makes the game much better...

lol, no just kidding; forgive me.
If feel like you don't want to play then find another game or thing that you love.

Well, that decision is ultimately up to you.

You can get an idea of how I play here.
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

play modded minecraft or pvp minecraft... u don't need be a great builder.
You should start playing the game as what was meant to be played, Single Player Survival, try to build your own empire and rule over minecraft.
but if that is not your fancy, modded minecraft would certainly be fun.
