In the secret alpha where dirt was very rare dirt had value. Dirt could be traded for 400 USD. Notch decided dirt was very valuable and wanted to mass produce this item. Eventually inflation caught dirt and dirt is now worth nothing. There was so much dirt that people began building houses, filling floors and even started coding compressed dirt so dirt didn't take up so much space in chests. Although due to the fact that there was so much stone stone is the most worthless block. For the most useless is air.

I think in my own opinion it would the Diorite and Granite and Andesite or however you spell them.. they aren't of value besides a block. I seem to only find use for them when filling in space I've mined. They don't provide armor or amusement..
Golden hoe. Definitely the golden hoe. Let Toycat explain this one:
Well, perhaps the reasons for using it are contrived and purposeless, but the poisonous potato has no use and pops into your inventory despite being unwanted.

This is true, however, the poisonous potato does not cost valuable resources to make, unless you consider a single potato a valuable resource. The gold hoe is useless and wastes two gold ingots which could have gone toward other items like powered rails. Though gold is much more valuable in the console edition where resources are much more limited because of the lack of infinite worlds.

The Posionous Potato doesn't take resources to make, but it's unwanted, it takes room, and its only use is to damage you.
If you were to accidentally craft a Golden Hoe you would be annoyed, but it can still be used as a hoe.

I actually like to collect poisonous potatoes because they are rare. I still consider them the most worthless however.

Breaking a desert shrub makes sticks.

I'd have to say that rotten flesh is pretty useless along with emeralds. I wouldn't say rotten flesh is completely useless but for most people it is.

*old man voice* Back in my day, slimeballs, cobwebs, and bookshelves had little to no use.
But honestly, coming back to Minecraft, I have no clue. I'm just gonna say dead bush.
lol
Dead bush drops sticks.
Why does everybody keep calling dead bush useless? Is every person a 1.8 old timer?
They really were useless outside of decorative purpose before 1.9, so not many people are aware they drop sticks.
