Soooo... yeah I was working on a map that quite literally was getting close to completion a year of my time put into it and... My power supply went haywire and fried all of my spin point drives... I am so upset... I backed up my world on multiple drives in my rig and all of them went by by.... I guess I should have backed it up on the cloud or on a flash drive... Well just needed somewhere to vent and you guys know what its like to work hard on a minecraft map... I had over 10,000 command blocks in the map. like 10 interactive boss fights with interesting mechanics... an open world map that was insanely awesome and quite literally the best map I had ever made... All gone...
So my question to you guys is... If this happened to you would you just give up on making maps or would you get up and try again? knowing it will take another year to accomplish what you did...

See if you can get the drives forensically rebuilt. It can be expensive, but given the hours of work lost- it'll be worth a shot.
For what its worth, my condolences on losing an epic project.

A mighty machine built within the wake
Of a long dead dream, little demon awake
The citizens sleep, never quite knowing when
The device will reawaken, hungry again.
We don't have anyone local around here that can do that... And to send it out It's like 500+ dollars to do that... That's not going to happen unfortunately I will just have to live with the loss.. But what I really want to know is if you guys would start over with a new project or just give up all together?

You seemed so excited about it!
I feel liek I would at least try and see if I can start over again. I'd probably move on to a new project though.
Thanks. I just feel so defeated you know... I just wanted to see what other people would do in my position. I suppose that's what I will do... Start a new project.

Define 'fried'. How do drives react when connected to a PC vua USB adapter? For 3.5" spinners, you need an adapter with external AC power. Zero response or they vibrate, make sounds? Did you examine drive PCBs for scorching? If connected inside functional PC, are they seen by BIOS?

no not seen by bios... and do not spin anymore period.. even in another rig. Smell of burnt silicon on all 3 drives...
Edit: ninja'ed by a few minutes... and you answered my question... "and do not spin anymore period"
It probably won't work, but you could try a disk analyzer, like in SystemRescueCD. It worked fairly well for me when my drive became kind of corrupted.

yeah lol I would have tried that too if they still spun... Only option left is to have it restored by an outside company and with the heafty price tag and still not even having a 100% chance of recovering the data its not worth it...

It's not how many times someone falls down, but how many times they get back up. Hang in there and realize that moving forward, you'll have the knowledge you gained from your last year of work, if not the work itself. Do you really think it will take you another year to get back to where you were before the crash? I know it bites, but I'm sure you'll have a better idea of where you're going with the project this time around, and that will definitely save you a lot of time!

You can do it man! and this time around you can do it even better. However i would recommend regular backups to a free cloud service like dropbox etc
Yeah I will definitely be using my dropbox account for future backups as well as my thumb-drive...
