Watch all the mods come out, you saw what happened when 1.7.10 came out and the modding community flourished right? I would bet that so many new and old mods would thrive that you could play a different game every time you changed modpacks. However such a move by mojang would be disastrous at least until the Modding API and general changes around that come to pass.
Watch as all mods get updated to this version (AKA, No "I'll wait for the next version" or "I don't want to update my mod because then I'll have to update it again"). Also, no "dying" mods like the "modloader" stuff.
It wouldn't affect me much. I still play on 1.7.10 because all of my favourite mods I play with are on that version. 1.8 and later runs too slowly on my computer.

Insulting people for their beliefs is not a good way of convincing them to adopt yours.
Fiction is just a game of make-believe recorded on paper or film. But that's what makes it so great.

Rejoice. Modding will explode with livelihood, no more new versions would mean no more soul-crushing updating of mods. This will bring a lot of new modders who were intimidated to mod before and encourage old modders to update their mods for the last time. Also people who have been interested in learning modding. I assume resource packs, plugins, and maps will receive a similar boom. I might actually become a creator if there wasn't yearly updates that force me to update everything I make.
As for survival, I'm sticking with 1.3 and the latest version for creative.

Let me know if my posts are helpful or if you like them. That's what I'm here for.
I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.

As a modder I don't see anything wrong with new versions coming out since I primarily make mods for my own use and only posted several on the forums since I thought somebody else might find them interesting or useful (for example, my "Triple Height Terrain" mod has been used by the "Deeper Caves" suggestion for examples of what the caves would look like). The only mod that I plan to regularly update is a simple mod that gives you 1.6.4 cave generation in later versions, which will be updated as long as Mojang is too lazy to add in actual customization (which should take only a few minutes to implement; I can even update it to snapshots without any of the usual modding tools).
I've had people pester me to update them or convert them to Forge but I just ignore such requests, which are also against the rules, rather than be intimidated by them - I'll only update them if I want to, which would be when (if) I play on a later version, and the lack of Forge compatibility is not an issue if they are the only mods you use, plus I much prefer to do things my own way than follow a rigid set of rules (i.e. learn and use an API).
I assume some of the top modder would get together and start releasing MC version on their own, adding what people suggested and then posting it on a website for people to download.
What would you do if new Minecraft versions stopped coming out?
Watch the community take care of it.

As said above, I'd just move on. Minecraft was a fluke in gaming, but I still see it as a "time killer". It used to be my main game back in alpha.
But I've been more than neck deep in Sven Co-op as of late since it finally came to Steam. 16 delightful years on that game and counting
SAME!

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Keep playing the 1.9 snapshots.

"I can't even dignify that with a snort." - Winter
"This is important and fascinating!" - Starflight
"You're nonagashabibble." - Squid
Kinda.
OT: Just go play other games and occasionally come on as usual.
idk.
Check out my game Waiting Simulator on indieDB and GameJolt!
Just play.
I don't need updates.

We would celebrate them having stop making minecraft worse
Still play the game of course, haha. If mojang won't release new updates/contents, I'm still sure theres still going to be many great mods being made.
