Are there standard ways of translating item names into other languages? The wiki site http://minecraft.gamepedia.com supports multiple languages (see its left side menu). But is this site considered official? Are there better resources?

You could change the language in the Settings and check the names in-game if you wanted to be certain, in the Creative inventory you can find all the blocks, I don't know about mobs and drops though, the Wiki is probably your best source there.

The Minecraft Wiki @ Gamepedia is considered official and recognized by Mojang and the community.
You can create a .lang file if you wish to make a custom language pack, or you could do the same with a resource pack.
