I completely agree, the only thing i have a problem with is the combat, I think the changes to the end make it more challenging and more fun, there is more to explore in the end rather than just the dragon, but the whole combat thing is ridiculous. Minecraft is more than just mining and crafting it's also about exploring, if the player is afraid to go exploring then what is the point? Before the update I would love to go out and hunt monsters but now I'm afraid to even leave my house at night to go chop down a tree because of the fear that a skeleton could be lurking behind another. I want my nighttime freedom back. Also for all the people who think that we are upset because we aren't good at fighting anymore, you are right, we got used to a certain type of combat and now that it has changed we are all out of wack, and it's getting boring, instead of going out and having fun at night I now see the night as something feared and not as fun. I want the old Minecraft combat back.
Shield+spatial awareness+avoiding more than you can handle=Nighttime Freedom.
I've had no problems going out at night from the very beginning of playing 1.9. And I play on Hard. I've only died from my own mistakes in judging danger.
Thanks for the suggestions, I do go out with a shield but I usually get in situations where more than 1 skeletons are fighting me and the shied can only block one, that's why going outside at night is such a hassle and I was already not that good at combat in 1.8 and now that it is changed I'm even worse. But thank you
Okay so before the update, I don't really think "the one who had the better armor and the better sword" really made that much of a difference in pvp. There were many times that someone killed me but I had the better armor and the better sword. I was kind of disappointed but it wasn't that big of a deal so I usually would then go on creative or do something else. I used to play a lot of hunger games and eventually I learned that I was much better at sneaking up on someone when they least expect it and killing them. That way was much more simple.
Now, the update made it so if I sneak up on someone they just run away all the time and it is the most annoying thing ever. I still think that it would just be nice if they got rid of cool down because then you could get more damage done and also block the other player's moves with a shield. That way it isn't as time consuming plus it still requires skill with attacking and blocking at the right time.
On my survival servers with my friends, I used to be able to go into caves and not be scared but now I don't really go exploring because after I looted a mine shaft and headed back to my base, it then became night time, so I went up in a tree and was going to wait there until day time but then a skeleton started shooting at me from the ground and somehow three zombies got up into the tree and then I died. The worst part about that was I lost the beetroots from the mine shaft which I had been searching for so long plus I lost my diamond sword, my diamond pickaxe and my diamond axe.
You should be scared of the dark, that's why the change is a good thing. You lost stuff because you stood out in the open and didn't make sure your position was safe for spending the night and obviously didn't know where you were to be able to go retrieve it.

Again the night should be something to fear, this is a good thing. It makes having a secure base to spend the night that much more rewarding, part of your progress in the world. Being able to travel safely at night should be done from secure lit roads or you stay home. Caves should be something to be feared and conquered. Not something you gleefully dive into for 'fat loots' because it's easy.

I personally don't like the 1.9 update cause it's not really what I consider fast-paced/fun. Minecraft pvp has always excited me from all the way from beta 1.6 from all the way to 1.8.9, I was the type of person who refused to join Factions, creative, prison and modded survival servers cause they didn't have enough pvp. Minecraft pvp has always been about "Skill" if it wasn't everyones kdr would be around 1 (Maybe around 1.3 if you're lucky.) but that's not the case I have nearly always had kdr around 3.0-4.0 on pvp servers. and i would have no problem killing people with a wood sword even if the offender had a diamond sword. If you think the only way to be good at pvp is to (Click fast) then you should probably start training and try joining a pvp server for once.
The only way to kill people was to revolve around skill and tactics. (If someone snuck up behind you, chances are you would die unless you reacted extremely fast.) (Since you could kill someone in seconds.) So you had to be aware of your surroundings at all times and you needed to think fast or else the offender would kill you. Now since fights take like friggin forever it doesn't matter if someone goes behind you, if someone tries sneaking up on you, you could run away (Like everyone does in 1.9 pvp) or you could fight back. But the point is it doesn't matter how you react now... Fights take like 3 minutes now so you might as well take your time. Now pvp always revolves around who has the better gear. Before if you wanted to kill someone with better gear you had to use tactics and damage them as much as you could before they started to fight back to make the fight be balanced again. If you wanted to kill someone with better gear you either needed alot of skill or you needed to come up with tactics and react really fast. but again if you like slow, unskillful and unthought-out pvp fights then I guess 1.9 really is for you.
I know everyones going to respond with "But 1.8 pvp was just CLICK CLICK CLICK" but still it's alot faster and overall better than just "Click (Wait like 3 seconds) Click (Wait another 3 seconds) Click. (The other players starts running away til he regains full health.) (Repeat from beginning.) I know people are like "You have to corner dem for them to not run away d00d" but seriously... half of the time people pvp it's on flat land and also cornering only works/works better in 1.8 and lower.
My ending conclusion: PvP should revolve around skill and who is faster (I don't mean clicking faster.)
The game should wait on you, You shouldn't wait on the game to catch up to you. = Better/Skillful fights. <--- Undebatable/Undisuputable fact.

Ok so 1vs1 PVP is longer, I can see that being the case. What about group PVP? Why do I hear nothing about that? Is it because minecraft PVP in general has always just gravitated toward soloing?
Mojang tried to add depth to something that had none in the first place. They shouldn't have implented such a ''revolutionary'' change, in my opinion, because now the community is divided in people who do and people who don't like the new combat system. Don't play much on servers, and I don't play a lot on vanilla, but there was this one server that I really enjoyed playing on, the games were not made too complex, not too unbalanced. Now they've updated it to 1.9, I don't play on it at all. Before the update, everyone was satisfied with the way things were. Well ''everyone'' is a big term, not everyone but almost noone came with the idea to implement a cooldown. Now, a fair amount of people are satisfied, but a lot aren't.
Now what I specifically dislike about it:
I don't think it added 'depth' at all. In another game perhaps, it would've. But now, the rush of adrenaline you would sometimes experience when taking out a whole hostile team all by yourself, won't come. I've heard countless numbers of people formulating that it's all about clicking as fast as you can, that's all there is about it. Well yeah, there is a limit of hits you can do per second and it takes a certain amount of time before you can land another one. So clicking as fast as you can will only help reduce the gaps between the next hits. People might say it's all about luck, but I can argue that. There is plenty you can do, besides clicking fast, to win.
Now, when playing a pvp-based game, it feels like playing a goddamn game of Sarcastaball.
There is tons of things I could brag about, but I think I'm done wasting my time.
I won't argue that 1.8 combat takes some skill. Honestly, my brother was a master at it and frequently took out people wearing diamond armor while wearing leather. After seeing something like that, it's hard to say 1.8 isn't at least somewhat skill-based.
However, the thing is, combat simply wasn't interesting. Perhaps it was for PvP adrenaline junkies, but every time I fought it was like playing whack-a-mole. After all, I play almost exclusively single player. I wasn't a fighter. I was a nigh-invulnerable pest-control service. And the main reason for that was pacing. Nothing could touch me, and I had no reason to think about what I was doing, simply because there was no reason to do anything but spam-click. And since I could do that as rapidly as I wanted, it was simple as point and click to win, regardless of how large a group I was fighting. Now everything is slowed down, and I actually feel like I'm fighting things. Mobs are no longer vending machines but an actual, credible threat. And fighting has consequences as well... who knew?! Fighting involves larger-scale thinking now.
Yeah the mobs were way too easy before, but players were not. Played around with the update yesterday with a couple of other people, and I cant deny it has some depth that the old system didnt. Still think they should've kept the old system, plenty of people don't like the update. Everyone could've been satisfied.
You shouldn't fail to upgrade a bad thing just because some people will dislike it. If I were to make you wear a machine that periodically gave you random shocks when you were a baby, I'd bet that if I tried to remove it you'd argue to keep it on. It's just the way people are.

Plenty of people disliked the old unchallenging combat, we tolerated it because there were plenty of other engaging activities that could hold our interest despite it. Progress was too easy thus minimizing our accomplishments on the gathering, building, and exploring parts of the game and now those activities are even more meaningful.

PvP is actually like a PvE Boss fight when I think about it.
The enemy got armor, you got armor. You have to destroy the armor, then be able to kill. (Etc.)
Conclusion: PvP takes longer, but it should not take to long.
To me, PvP (survival games, etc.) is more like a addon to Minecraft. (IMO)
PvE has become more fun. Now, Minecraft is not just about mining, crafting and building. Its also about protecting your stuff. And if you don't like that part, just switch over to peacefull or something.
To me, 1.9 have made the PvE alot easier and funnier when I play singleplayer (Normal difficulty).
So I don't realy see any reason to say that 1.9 is a bad thing. And because of that, I belive that people who think 1.9 is bad should stop arguing about it and start to learn about it.
And I realy hope they also ask them self one simple question: What is Minecraft all about?

Let's not forget that in the 1.9.1 pre-releases they had made the cooldown more balanced. If you spam-clicked, it would still deal enough damage to be useful when fighting a bob or three, but you were still probably going to loose to someone who timed their attacks in PvP. However, they reverted the changes at the last second because someone made a big stink on Reddit about it. I just wish they would have kept the 1.9.1 changes. It would have been perfect for everyone.

It was unbalanced to the point where spam-clicking was more worth it when you compared the DPS. That's not perfect. That's the opposite of perfect.
I can NOT stand the combat crap, and on my personal server, I go into the settings and straight up disable it. It is by far the worst thing to ever happen to Minecraft, and this has Microsoft written all over it. Microsoft are user hostile via Windows 8 and 10, first a bad UI and then a spyware OS. They no longer care about your opinion. Best to use an older version, or find a new game like the rest of us have.

Microsoft has no influence on the game. In fact, if anyone's to blame, it's the Minecraft fans. They were the one who suggested all of the changes.

why are people still talking about this stuff?! (no offense)
Because it is relatively controversial within the group of people who play Minecraft, I suppose.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.

Help the Villagers to get jobs!
How to beat mobs at night:
1. Learn how the mobs behave
2. Use both hands
3. Have at least Iron Armor better
4. Do at least use Iron Sword or better
5. Hide in the bushes to suprise them
6. The mobs don't know whats behind them
Good
