Lets play "spot the 12 year old"
Found him.
But seriously, it's the sheer amount of Minecraft videos by them and their thinking they're funny on servers that irritates people, not when they play it in general.
there seems to be many cases where things originally meant for a child-aged fan-base are ruined for the people the product was originally meant for, with older people spilling in and making it a more 'adult thing'.
the same thing basically happened to my little pony. now there's a bunch of grown adults in their early-to-late twenties who are putting down little girls, for watching a show meant for little girls. (not to mention the fetishization of it, but i'm not gonna get into that.)
yeah, twelve-year-olds aren't mature, of course not. they're twelve. what should be expected of them? they're kids, they're learning, and twelve is an age where a lot of things change. they're gonna post annoying videos thinking they're funny, they're gonna play the games that interest them, they're gonna do stupid things thinking that they're doing cool things and regret them later -- we should just let them be and deal with them in a way a growing teen or a grown adult should instead of complaining about it.
honestly, as a sixteen year old, it bothers me that this happens so much. let's stop being so picky and mean about it for once.

Just because I don't harass every kid who plays this game, doesn't mean I'm a little kid. This game and this forum is meant for all ages, too.
I agree with you on the 2nd part though, but sometimes in-game I see people call other people a 10-12 year old randomly as an insult.
@GrimmVoid
I hear about people saying that kids ruined minecraft. I posted this thread to tell them that it's meant for kids.
The game's not meant for kids. It's not meant for any specific group. The game doesn't discriminate, rather than being targeted at a specific market segment the game is aimed at anyone and everyone, not just kids. Just because something is rated for kids doesn't mean it's actually for kids, just means it's suitable for kids to play. Of course, this is dependent on whatever it is you're talking about, of course My Little Pony appears to be for little girls due to the art-style and general structure of the show (haven't seen it myself, but I've seen enough of it over the internet to know that), Minecraft on the other hand has nothing that ties it to kids, it has nothing that ties it to adults either. The player sculpts their experience, and with that power the player can make their experience more child-friendly or more adult-friendly.

Originally it is meant for all ages, yes. I see where you going. But sometimes in some kid-friendly servers, there could be people making fun of kids playing the game.

Rated suitable for kids of a certain age. It doesn't say it's just for kids only it says that kids that age can play it. You make it sound like only kids should be playing Minecraft and that it was made for them so what are older people doing playing it. That's as bad as older people complaining that too many kids are playing.

You'll find they're not just ripping into any kid that joins, it's that specific stereotype of the kid yelling at everyone who beats him in a game that people rip into if they find someone like that. If there's a "mature" 10 year old in a server ("mature" meaning obviously not of an age where they're considered mature, but show some respect to other players and generally is pretty serious about the game), I'm sure people wouldn't care about them.

It's not hate for kids, it's hate for people who are immature regardless of age. It just happens that kids tend to be immature so you might see it as hate against kids.

I honestly do not mind 12 year olds playing beside me, I learn to play with them and they often bring more joy to the game. The thing people do not understand is that they are many adults, or teens that act like adults. Age is a term used to stereotype everyone.
We as people think the older someone is, the more mature they act. But, in reality, its not that simple. I have met 12 year olds who could run an adults job better than that adult. I have also met 12 year olds who act like they were just born into the world.
So, in my own opinion, just learn to work with everyone. If you read that this person is 12, act with them like you would a mature person.

I can see why it might irritate some people but it is a game for everyone. I personally don't mind or care what age, race, gender of those who I play with as long as they are nice that's all that matters to me.
"Minecraft has been rated as suitable for 7+ by PEGI, and for 10+ by ESRB. iTunes has a 4+ rating for their Pocket Edition."
You will note that there is no maximum age specified.
Just because something is suitable to be used by a small child does not mean that its use is limited to those children. Take, say, the game of chess. We'll stick with the computerized version for now. I just searched on the App Store, and the first chess game there is rated as suitable for 4+. Does this mean that people at some given age (say, older than 12) should not be playing chess, because it's not inappropriate for children?
In fact, the implication of this premise is that adults should only like or do things inappropriate for children. Think about that for a minute.
No chess. No ice cream. No Star Wars movies. No baseball. No picnics. No watching ballet, or opera, or the Cirque du Soleil. No eating at McDonald's. No taking pictures. No sending Christmas cards. No playing Words With Friends. No ice skating, or riding bicycles except in dangerous areas, or just chilling out and relaxing on the porch. And no playing Minecraft.
Let's pick on Words With Friends for a minute. Rather against my will, I got talked into playing that by a friend. He's old enough to be a parent, if he chose to. So am I. And we play WWF with each other all the time. Should we not be doing that? For that matter, WWF is rated as being suitable for ages 4+. Think about it: how many 4-year-olds do you know who can even read and write? While there are undoubtedly some (long ago, I was one) there are not many of them. So why would a game be created with an intended market of people who are incapable of playing it?
Sorry, but your idea that "suitable for ages X+" means "only intended for age X" is not right. Minecraft wasn't developed for children. It was developed for everybody. The people who decide these things decided that there was nothing in it that the parents of a 4-year-old or 10-year-old child would find offensive. And that's all it means.
You'll understand when you get older. Then you'll remember your post and my comment and facepalm at what you copypasted. All that ESRB means is that it's suitable for everyone, not any intended age group. Just FYI though, this game started as a indie game sourced from 4chan, /v/ in specific. This game was funded and backed and spread to popularity by those players. This was long before Notch fled to Reddit to escape criticism and having to work on his game. My point is 4chan's mostly made up of adults as its a 18+ website, it started with adults long before kids clung to it, just food for thought.
those of you wondering why i don't have an active RP (so far none). i try. but whenever i get to the rules section of it my computer restarts. computer: i realise what your telling me and i give up.
If I'm gonna be honest, I don't care how old you are. So long as you're not being a jerk or a cheater, there's no reason for me to complain about you acting immature or whiny or whatever. Because, let's face it - none of us were mature at the age of 12 either. And just look at Minecraft itself for a moment; do you expect that game to only attract a community of 20-year-olds?
The whole point of the game is to be for all ages. So if you really are a "mature adult", be tolerant of the other players, especially if the only thing you have to complain about is their age.
"Minecraft has been rated as suitable for 7+ by PEGI, and for 10+ by ESRB. iTunes has a 4+ rating for their Pocket Edition."
I think what irritates people is that parents allow preteens on the internet, not that preteens are playing minecraft.
Eh another thing you can do: just go in singleplayer.
