hey guys today I finally made a desktop server that took me literally 3 years and 32 attempts, but I got it. now I'm wondering: how do you run two server off the same router? I know you have to change the port on the server.properties for both servers (ones port would be 25565, the other would be 25566) and then you have to port forward both of them. I portforwarded 25565 successfully and tried to do 25566. I can run the server with the 25566 port in the properties, it worked. but I can't have them both on at once or it will say port already in use. can someone tell me exactly how to port forward the ports so I can run two at a time? I can tell you the name of my router if you need it
by rights if you run both servers off different computers with different ports it SHOULD work with no issues as i've run 3 off 3 different computers at the same time and they all worked with no issues.
it MIGHT be that your running one server off the same PC your running your client side (the minecraft you play) on.
yes, but I'm trying to run 2 off of the same laptop. I know its possible because I watched a BungeeCord video and the guy was running 3 servers on the same laptop at the same time. that is what I am trying to accomplish.
Hosting two servers on one LAPTOP is not the best thing. Also hosting multiple server without any general knowledge of networking is not so smart too. One Server is easy. If you would like to have your one server just stay with one.
I will never stop anybody from gathering expirience. But the hardeware of any standard laptop will not be enough to run multiple servers smooth. If you have a high end gaming Laptop then it's different. But I would never "waste" a high end gaming Laptop for hosting servers. There is server hardware specially dimensioned for handling operations like a minecraft server does.
Networking, routing and firewall configuration is not the easiest thing to do without being willing to learn some theory. If you would like to get into this topic there is a lot of literature which will explain you how your router and firewall work and how you can handle and control them.
Just my two cents as an IT-Engineer with several years experience.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
actually, you would be surprised how much I know. but that doesn't answer my question. do you make a new outbound and inbound service in your firewall? I remember doing that in the past and it worked. on a completely different note I'm actually studying to be an IT
wait hold on are you saying that with BungeeCord I could have a server located 1 mile from me running, on a different router, and then the one right beside be running, and they would still be linked?
Was not offending you, if it sounded like it then I'm sorry. If you are studying IT then you will know that a laptop is not the best option and I do not have to tell you this. I guess thats just the best option for you at the moment. I know that feel. My old laptop melted because of a Minecraft server and some other stuff.
But back to the topic. I do not know about Bungee, the last time I set up a Minecraft server is a a while ago. Had a quick look into it. Looks great. If I understand everything correct you can connect multiple Servers together functioning as one World with Portals. So that is not what is your problem. First of all you need to get your servers into the network. So every of your server needs it's own port for sure. Now they should be avaiable in your Local Area Network, via IP and specified port. No router configuration needed till now. But if you want them to be avaiable trough the public network, you need a public IP. Or at least DynDNS. Now your router needs to know how to handle the incoming and outgoing packages via the two specified ports. So you gotta create a Network Adress Translation rule from any WAN IP to LAN IP with the specified port. Now packages get into your LAN. But then they are trapped. So you need a rule from your Server LAN IP to any WAN IP. Because you want to have two servers with two seperated port you will need 4 rules. 2 incoming and 2 outgoing. Now your router will pass a package from every WAN IP coming with the specified port to you Local Server on the specified port. Then your laptop will handle the rest. BUT. If there is a firewall in between. Does not matter if software or hardware based, it needs to know that it has to pass those packages. So you also need to create two rules on it.
And then i think you should be able to access from the Internet to both your servers. What this Bungeecord is i can't tell you. I think this will use a seperate port?
So just to make sure I get this Bungee thibg correct. After you connected those servers correctly. You are able to create a portal on Minecraft server1's map and one on server2's map and you will be able to interact between those two servers?
