I do not donate to Minecraft servers as they are not a purchase that would stay with me forever. For example I could spend that money on a video game and that would last much longer and give me more play time per euro.
I don't donate either because the people you donate to may be scammer(kids or adults). I have heard of a lot of people (not just Minecraft) that have got scammed for a donation. That is why I don't donate because for example you could potentially lose a lot of money.

I'm making a mod-pack, that is like a minecraft server with mini-games, etc. It has fake players, (About 500 fake players). But I hope it ends out good, If you guys want it, keep giving me good idea's and support!

technically you cant really lose money with a donation since you give money without expecting anything in return. but as for the op, I have never donated any money and I have rarely felt that any server I went on needed the donation.

I donated $25 to a server once (it died a long time ago). I got nothing in return, because it was a donation, and I was happy that my money was being used for the server.
Most server owners that offer rewards for donations put only a fraction of it into the server and keep the rest for themselves. It's not a "donation", it's a scam. It's hilarious when the server owners complain that they don't get enough donations and have to spend their own money, or they need an insane amount of money to run the server.
Pay-to-win servers are a real turn-off for me. Diamonds are not worth $0.99, nor are they worth even $0.01. Do they have to pay money to use the /give command? No. So neither should you. This isn't donating, this is purchasing.

They also aren't worth 200$ Like really? You're going to make a server shop, and put insanely high prices?
"Oh, so to keep the server up!" I know it doesn't cost thousands of dollars to host a server! Even really big ones, I doubt they even cost 50$ to host!
And then the kids steal borrow their parent's credit cards and go out and actually buy those things.
The only way I would donate to a server is if it's a really good server with an excellent community that is small.
Oh, and it doesn't give you anything in return for the donation.

I donated on a server called BXB Servers awhile ago. it didnt really end all that well. Thats why now the money i spend goes towards my own server, and i dont even have a donation option for the players
What did you get banned for? Right now it can be interpreted two ways. One you caused trouble for them(breaking a lot of rules such as griefing, looting insulting, etc.). The other way is that the server had bad staff or owner. Either way I wish it didn't happen lol.

Not to be a douche but hosting costs a lot of money and hosting really isnt the only place where your expenditure goes.
-> You have to pay your coders if you want exclusive plugins
-> If your running a minigame server the amount of servers you need will be high which equals lots of money
Coders and dedicated coders at that are expensive for what you want them to do and running servers isn't cheap
I donate $165 to tunnelsmc.com, and $150 a month to kiwiserversmc.com because one is no longer paying for itself, but I don't have the heart to shut it down, and I'm still trying to grow Tunnels.
If you look on any reputable server hosting company's website you will see plenty of options to pay $100+ for a server. Granted, the majority of servers (at least the ones run by younger kids) probably only cost about $4-$40 to run depending on the size. You can own a server for $1.49 a month, that's the cheapest option I have seen so far.

Now that I agree with! It's crazy how many servers there are out there that ask for "donations" in return for in-game advantages. It's ridiculous. I know it'll sound contradictory, but I do feel like if a server wants to allow players to "donate" in return for non-advantageous perks such as getting a pet, a special title, etc., then that should be okay. Even Mojang's Terms of Service allows for that, and even though apparently it doesn't matter, technically, it's against their rules for servers to give players game-altering perks in return for "donations".
I definitely agree with you overall, I just wanted to point out how ridiculously cheap/expensive maintaining a server can be. What's funny is that I'm sure plenty of those server owners still ask for donations and then pocket most of the cash. Guess you just have to watch out for those and only donate to the ones you trust or really care for.
First thread in a while.
Anyways, I wanted to know if you guys have donated to servers. If so, which ones?
For me, I have donated 100$ for ItsJerryAndHarry (herobrine rank) and 25$ for Hypixel (VIP rank).
What about you?
I donate 9.99 euros to fragnet.com each month so my server keeps running.
Mind your Craft.

I have donated over $10 to a server called play.towncraft.us and I donated $25 to a server called mc.chromatia.net that is no longer up

I have never donated to a server. Ever.
Reasons:
1. Most servers that let you donate are PURE EVIL. It's not even donating, it's purchasing items/pets/ranks/etc.
2. I don't have any money....
THE KITTY HAST BEEN RESURRECTED, AND LIVES ONCE MORE!
I donated my time and effort to my server. I also just threw money at it and then thanked myself for donating to my server.
