Alright, so I seem to have an addiction to Minecraft. Im not gonna lie the game is so much fun and I enjoy playing the game at times, but it's becoming stale and boring and almost like a necessity to play minecraft. I get angry over the game, sad over the game, and just disgusted by it at times too. This is my breaking point, because my parents and a lot of people find it silly I still play minecraft and are annoyed at how much I play thing game.
a quick synopsis of how much I play this game when I just stay home and go nowhere:
Monday-Friday: Every day, approximately 6-8 hours a day.
-So far in the week, starting Monday, we already have 30-40 hours into the game.
Saturday: Add another 8-12 Hours.
Sunday: Add another 6-10 Hours.
So in a normal week, sitting at home, I put in almost 60 hours a WEEK into this game.
Now, let's say I spend 2 days at my friend's house. We usually stay up til 3 am playing Minecraft. Therefore, we can add another 16 hours.
So essentially, I sometimes spend a MAXIMUM of over 80 hours a week on this game, and an AVERAGE of 60 hours a week. And I play this game literally every day.
Now, say there are 4 1/2 weeks in a month. Multiply 60 by 4.5. Then, multiply 80 by 4.5.
Thats 270-360 hours a month. Im not doing years, I will cry if I see those numbers.
I beg you all, the people of MinecraftForum, help me come up with a plan. I'm going to college in September and I NEED to start limiting severely now.
You can always ask your parents to limit the amount of time you are on Minecraft, or the computer overall. Have them give you, say 3-4 hours per week or so, spread over a few days or not. That may help you limit your time playing and you could do more things with your spare time.
I'm no expert on this. Take my word for it or not.
I would say to start small - maybe lessen playing time to 3/4 hours a day, then two weeks later 2/3 hours a day, until you feel like you have gotten the hang of your schedule.
Practice self-control and keep your mind off of Minecraft. If you're busy with other things like yard work or studying or hobbies you'll find that Minecraft rarely pops up. I found doing yard work cut my addiction in an instant, being a father with an addiction to a game is dangerous, which is why I did what you did but rather than asking the community I did things myself.
Here's something you can do, structure your gameplay, make a list or a schedule something with numerous small tasks. This gives you a list of things to do and allows you to restrict your sessions to a few tasks a day. For example:
Day 1: Establish a mine, build a furnace, find iron etc.
A gentle reminder: You have the power to decide how you want to live your life.
When you get down to brass tacks, the time you spend on Minecraft is wasted time. Sure, it's fun, but you're not learning or producing anything that is going to have a positive impact upon your life over the long-term.
If, however, you devoted this much time and energy towards a meaningful pursuit, such as an education or vocation, you could acquire knowledge / develop skills that could have a profound impact upon your future.
Ask yourself where you want to be in 15 years. Imagine your life, your relationship(s), and your job. Where do you want to be in 10? In five? What can you do today to start you down that path?
I hope this helps. I also hope that you will choose a path that will lead you to a place where you will find pride, not only in having completed the journey, but in yourself for having the intestinal fortitude to pull yourself out of a world of fantasy and into the real world.

I have this problem too
I even tried programs that limit your time but I was too addicted and knowledgeable on the subject of computers (i.e. google + a little logic) that I managed to hack through them.
Roughly 95% of Minecraft players hate Villagers and would be very happy if they were removed. If you are one of the 5% who actually like villagers, copy this into your signature and hope it never happens. ~EnderDude124

Just straight up uninstall the game . . . I know that sounds blunt. There are several outcomes to your situation:
1. You continue playing till the end of time
2. You will get bored and move on
3. You quit right now
The game is fun, don't get me wrong and I understand the addictive aspect of the game. However since you said you are starting college, have you ever considered what would happen if you don't get accepted or having trouble keeping up your grades? Think of the money your parents are investing in your education and all the hard work they had to suffer, and if you made your own money, think of all that time you spent working, for it to be a waste because you got addicted to a game.
By uninstalling the game and resisting the urge to reinstall, you can practice self-discipline which is a skill that carries over to other aspects of your life. Video addiction is a real thing, I've been where you are. Trust me when I say the pressure of school work will catch up to you. But I guess you already realize that considering you are asking for help.
You don't have to quit Minecraft forever, just long enough for you to do what you need to do. Perhaps you never go back to it, it might be for the best. Go socialize, refine your skills in the arts, do you like music? Have you played a musical instrument?
You also said that you find the game stale and boring, this is a major reason why you should just straight up uninstall the game. There is no point in playing anymore if you are not having fun.
I remember when I played minecraft until I felt like my brain was going to melt over my desk. good times, I regret nothing. after a while it became repetitive, now I rarely play minecraft. I wish you luck but in my opinion limiting yourself is a bad idea. for example, if I like something and if it's taken from me, I'd want to have it even more than before, it would only make things worse. overcoming addiction is much easier than most people say it is, for me at least. (I'm not just talking about minecraft addiction.) just relax and keep in mind that minecraft is just a game. if you like minecraft, play less so it won't become stale and you can still enjoy the game.
