Sorry if this is a regular question, I haven't been able to find a straight answer searching for it. I would like to setup a minecraft server for my kids and some of their friends. But I want to know which types of devices can connect to it. My son primarily plays on an android tablet but he has friends who play on iOS devices. Could they connect and play somehow over the internet if I setup a server? I read into the app he has a little bit but it sounds like if the server version does work it's only on the local LAN? Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

I believe that IOS and Android versions of Minecraft are identical apart from OS compatibility. So a Pocket edition server should work for IOS, Android and Windows Phone versions of Minecraft.
